We are posting in the post post hell era Doomworld. No need to post useless posts anymore. -Adam Post

In all seriousness, though, it's just like I said over at the New Forum thread earlier:

On a side note, I somewhat understand why Post Hell is being discontinued, and it's pretty much for the same reasons why the Worst Wad Cacoward also got canned. In the past, PH was supposed to be meant as a warning, an impromptu guide on how NOT to behave on Doomworld. That being said, just like the Worst Wad, this has resulted in attempts to get a thread helled just for cheap lulz (via derailing a thread) or attempts just to create a dumb thread (which led to threads like "Which anime character would you want to kick you in the balls?"), which has led to the rise of trolls and attention whores, causing Post Hell to lose most of its original meaning.

Despite that, I still found it to be a fairly effective way to teach newcomers how NOT to act on the forums, which in turn, has bred more civility among the members than most online forums (with a few hiccups here and there).

And we need a news page.

It's still there, look at the top of the page.

Are blogs removed?

Yes, status updates take its place.

Without Post Hell, a part of the history of the forum, including historical/legendary flamewars, weird characters, but also some topics which might deserve a second chance/revisit are lost forever. I sure hope there's a preserved version of it somewhere, if anything, for historical reasons alone. The glorification aspect, even though it sounds like a legit concern, was negated by the fact that linking to PH posts was disallowed.

In before it's really just a hidden forum viewable to only global mods and admins, as a place to dump truly the trashiest of postsl

Really though, I did dabble briefly in Post Hell occasionally. There was some funny content, but I would agree you did have to wade through a lot of trash/troll posts, truly awful/stolen wads, deleted warez / stolen content, deleted questionable/pornographic material - just to find some really funny gems. Many of the OPs were either losered or banned.

Though social media is more a dumpster fire in of itself, largely thanks to a certain person that got elected last November.

Without post hell, what will the admins do when I make a post about speculative science fiction?

And for the record I don't mind be unfairly targeted despite other esoteric and odd posts apparently being appropriate enough for long term discussion.

The stuff is in the web archive.

According to Murphy's Law, the juiciest bits will have been left over.

But seriously, I think Post Hell was excluded from robots.txt harvesting, even googling very rarely leads to direct PH links. The web archive itself is actually spread pretty thin when it comes to Post Hell, not even harvesting 2016 and 2017 at all, or anything prior to 2007 for that matter.

It is interesting how PH became a internet sensation that brought alot of attention to Doomworld solely for its amusement.

Of course, it's that very same high-profile attention that seemingly killed it off.

When a forum sub intended as punishment and public humiliation (even as a novelty) gains a fan base, creating traffic that eclipses the actual intent and focus of the site, and brings upon such notoriety, then it's a no-brainer...It was too much of a distraction and/or attracting the wrong attention, and therefore removed.

Then again, maybe not.

I believe in Post Hell, just like I believe in Post Jesus, who will come some day to wash away all the shit posts from Everything Else.

There was a recent thread about a guy requesting people to make a furry mod. Now, that thread seems to need higher clearance to view.

I'm guessing it's stashed away  somewhere in Doomworld. But where >.>

Its fairly typical for forums to have a hidden "garbage bin" forum rather than outright deleting things, which is what I suspect is going on with that one post

in any case, someone in the New Forum thread did sort of imply that (much to the annoyance of the admins...) they did archive all of Blogs and Post Hell, but I have no clue what they're intending to do with that.

Thanks. Looks kinda sucky now though as it lacks much of the look of the previous version + has none of the links that were there.

So it's not gone forever? As long as it's still there I can hold out hope that it'll be brought back someday, even if only as an archive.

The closest I've ever found to that concent on other forums is the "Mud Pit" subforum on tapeheads.net, which was visible only to members and explicity meant to host less than family-friendly debates. Politics, conspiracy theories, etc. all went in there. However, that subforum was eventually closed. There still are a few registered-members-only subforums there, but nothing like the Mud Pit. DW's Post Hell was pretty unique.

I don't think it was unique as much as possibly just original. Skulltag carried that idea throughout its lifetime, and Zandronum inherited it later on.

DRD Team has always had a hidden "garbage bin" forum but it was never public.

ZDoom.org recently got one (a public one) but mostly because we were tired of throwing shit splits into the off-topic section where they clearly didn't belong. ZDoom.org always had a hidden one but it had a 30-day prune limit, so there was not exactly any history to be preserved from it.

Here's my thoughts on it: I really don't think such a forum should ever really be "private" so to speak, unless a lot of topics from private forums get moved there. Seeing as how DRD Team is mostly private-facing (focusing mostly on project development than community) it has always kept its garbage bin forum under wraps (its official name is "The Twisting Nether" from the Warcraft universe). But places like Doomworld, ZDoom.org, and Zandronum that are more community oriented should probably keep them public if nothing else for archival purposes.

I do indeed see the problem that Linguica had with keeping it public, though - no one should ever have a goal of "making it" into Post Hell. And the reactions to its being hidden says a lot - but there's also a lot, I think, it does not say.

I'm not Linguica. I am no admin of this site. I really don't know what the best solution for Post Hell would be, in this case, because it has a bit of a unique circumstance in this community - but generally, there should have been no harm in keeping it public.

^ As I explained before, archive.org is hardly complete when it comes to DW, let alone PH.
