ZDaemon Thursday Night Survival #296 - Doom 2 Redux (Part I)

Loosely basing its maps on the levels in Doom 2, this fresh megawad remakes them with more detailing and a bit more deadly gameplay to appeal to the modern-day player. Join us as we play through the first half this Thursday.

 

The mapset is very close to the final release, so feel free to post your comments and possible bug reports in the WAD thread.

I would love to be there for this.  But I have never played online with ZDaemon before and have no idea how to do it.  Can someone explain to me how to do it?

 

Also, what time is the non-European session?

ZDaemon can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of the post. You have to register an account, which you do when first opening the launcher. There's a list of servers in the launcher, and you just need to look for the L@P TNS 296 server when the session starts (it's password locked before start time, though). You'll also need to place the DOOM2 IWAD in ZDaemon's wads directory, else it'll use some ancient version of freedoom instead.

 

There is no US session - seems the 100-200 ping never bothered the US players as they always just joined the Euro session instead. As such, the US server was a tomb for years until it was discontinued.

Trace, check the multiplayer tutorial thread out if you need any further details, it explains in depth how to set up your launcher so that all populated servers are at the top of the list, how to set your wad directories, how to set player color and other preferences as well. I recommend using IDE or DE for connecting to servers since it has an easy but detailed interface.

Thanks for the quick fixes, OP updated. MAP09 still has missing player 2-4 starts but it's not a big problem.

 

To check coop starts (and a lot of other useful stuff) yourself, use tnswutil:

I would like to mention since I keep noticing things in the wad that need to be updated, or mappers update levels on their own, I have been re-uploading Version 1.3.2 with updates without changing the name so the link url remains the same. So for the server, if you already have downloaded 1.3.2, you might want to re download it in case you have any bugs. I won't update the wad any further until a couple more days.

Forgot to post one more late night/early morning funny moment; I seem to be getting a lot of tightly fitting orbiting projectiles lately.

 

Also, the "spongebob had a new one ripped." obituary will probably stay in my memory for some time xD
