Insomniak Posted August 18, 2002 Ok, so what the hell is up with all these "missing girl cases" all around the world. The first one I can remember from this year was that Salt Lake City girl getting abducted way back when, can't remember if they ever found her or not. Now it seems like there's a new girl stolen from their parents every week. What's up with this? is it a serial killer? a cult? Another thing that's been in the news lately are those massive floods destroying Europe and Asia. CNN and CBC show cities like Salzburg and Prague flooded by at least 3 feet of water. Global warming? Ozone hole? Finally, what's up with that "Asian brown cloud" that's hovering over China? Is this the end result of 200 years of industrialization? And if so, what can be done to stop it? 0 Share this post Link to post

Ichor Posted August 18, 2002 First - Psycho copycat glory hogs want in on the action, and they think the easiest way to do it is to copy the Smart case. Also, all this media coverage is only encouraging them. I'm sure this sort of thing has been going on for a long time, but the media is making each case into a nationwide event. Second - I'm sure it was bound to happen eventually. Remember the Mississippi flood back around 1993 or so. That one was just as bad, if not worse. That doesn't make the European flood any less tragic though. And I think it's caused more by El Nino than some hole over the South Pole, that for all we know, has been there for centuries. Third - Those liberal socialist environmentalist kooks blame the US for all the pollution in the air, water, etc., but where did the cloud come from? Southeast Asia, where the real polluters are. And you just know those nuts will somehow blame the US for that, like maybe if we didn't sign that hideous Kyoto Treaty, this wouldn't have happened. Fat chance. 0 Share this post Link to post
Use Posted August 18, 2002 the planet being drowned by water would be a good end. but that happened already, i was hoping for fire, but water will do. 0 Share this post Link to post
GS-1719 Posted August 18, 2002 As soon as they realise a missing children case is genuine in the UK, they go mental over the coverage. 0 Share this post Link to post

Ichor Posted August 18, 2002 And why is it a good thing? What do you think it will do to the economy? If Japan (where the city of Kyoto is located) has withdrawn from the treaty, then you know it can't be good. 0 Share this post Link to post

fodders Posted August 18, 2002 There are 58,000 abductions in America every year. Only the ones deemed newsworthy are reported in papers. There are many where a) a family member has a drugs conviction b)mother has HIV etc etc that are never shown on tv etc. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sephiroth Posted August 18, 2002 first the 'missing girls' is the flavor of the month for the news, next month/6months/year something new will take its place. girls and boys are kiddnapped all the time. also the flodding in africa is probaly normal just being reported on. flooding is common in tropical area or in a arrid area that gets more rain than needed. plus earth has been on a rolar coaster ride of weather and enviroment changes for the last few million years. infact cahnces are we are only in the warm period of an ice age. as for that brown cloud, havent heard of it yet and i bet it is the result of polution and there aint much we can do about that now 0 Share this post Link to post
SyntherAugustus Posted August 18, 2002 it's easy to capture a kid. just tell them you have a missing dog or say that you giving them free ice-cream. i saw this on "inside edition". 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted August 19, 2002 1 - Actualy, kidnappings have dropped in the last 5 years. They are just reporting this crap because if they reported REAL news (like Israel slaughtering Palestinians) the government would shut them down. 2 - Meh...shit happens. Probably global warming. The planet is probably recovering from the series of ice ages that have happened over the past million years. In fact, I heard somewhere that there was a little Ice Age from about the dark ages until the 1800s or so. The Earth used to be hotter. Back in the Mesozoic Age, the planet was largely tropical. Thats why back then the dominant species were dinosaurs and now they are mammals. The planet is ever-changing folks. Shit is just going to keep happening...Ice Ages, Global Warming. Its all part of a never-ending cycle. 3 - Haven't heard of this. Not very surprising considering the thousands of coal plants in China mixed with sandstorms from the Gobi. Japan has problems with acid rain because of China's pollution, and every once in a while, a dust storm makes its way all the way over here from China. So none of this is very surprising. In conclusion, I would like to paraphrase REM by saying it's the end of the fucking world, and I have an erection. 0 Share this post Link to post

When my daughter was around 7, she was going to school and a car pulled up with a man and woman in it. He told her he had to take her to school as "Your Mom has died". Luckily she had only just left Mom and had the sense to run to a friends house who she could see the father at the door. He chased after the car but lost it. Now that was scary. Always felt it was more sick that a woman was helping him. 0 Share this post Link to post

Did they ever catch them? 0 Share this post Link to post
fodders Posted August 19, 2002 Heard he was caught elsewhere a year or so later, but as he hadn't actually touched anyone I don't think he got much more than a supervision order. 0 Share this post Link to post
