has anyone heard the word schism used in and scifi movies or shows?

Heard it used by people in my presence, don't recall it in movies (which I hardly watch anyway so I wouldn't know).

In Shadowman, the Five from Hell used 'schisms' to travel between deadside and the world of the living. The schism consisted of a corpse, with the chest cavatiy peeled open, and the heart removed. Then an artifact called a retractor was implanted into the body, allowing the transfer through the two dimensions, feeding off the soul of the victim trapped in limbo.
Schism is a fancy word for a rift, or tear.

I'm currently working on a prototype. Any volunteers?

Volunteers to "provide material" for the prototype, as in donating a chest cavity??? Or, any volunteers to test the prototype schism itself? I might go for the former, hmmm...no, I'd rather feed off a soul in limbo!
