What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Recommended Posts

I've started playing Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP today and it's been pretty good so far. I was originally going to play an English translated of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on a TurboGrafx-16 emulator but good god, this shit's really difficult to setup and work. I have to go through alot trying to do so; spent around 3 days just trying to and I gave up and decided to get DX Chronicles instead for the PSP. One thing I liked about this is that its a compilation of 3 games:

1. Rondo of Blood remake

2. Rondo of Blood (English translated complete with English VA)

3. Symphony of the Night (same game from the PS1 but with redone VA and dialogue)

The other two needs to be unlocked which sucks because I really want to play RoD instead of the remake but it should be good enough. I managed to reach Level 6 and trying to defeat Shaft is really hard. His second attack (Lightning Shaft) always keeps getting me, the two spheres that Shaft uses floats above near you and shoots lighting on the ground and it moves very fast making it difficult to dodge the attack. I might try beat him tomorrow and hopefully defeat him.

I've been playing through Serious Sam HD The Second Encounter, I already finished both the Eqypt and Aztec campaigns and now I am up to the Persia (Babylon) campaign. The blocky and blue brick designs of the levels in this campaign make me think of Quake for some reason.

Finished playing through Doom3: the lost mission. First Doom3 game I've played through to the end.

Played a little Quake Live for the first time in over a year since QC came out(and QL duel largely died in NA).

Still playing PUBG, bit less solos these days and more duos/squads.

Eyeballing my Vita and the 17 game backlog I've racked up, not trying to think about the PSP and PSOne games on it.

Hopefully you're playing it through Fusion and not the stand alone version. Fusion has multiple improvements across all the HD Sam titles and still gets updates.

Installed HeXen 2 and the Portals of Praevus mission pack today, plus the Hammer of Thyrion port. It's been I don't know how many years since I played it last... like several years at least.

Dusk. Again. I finished episode 3 two days ago, and I'm going back through it on Intruder mode. It's just... sooooo good. E3 is absolutely fantastic, although homecoming was kind of annoying; if you've played it you'll know what I mean.

I also received Immortal Redneck in the humble bundle, and I've been playing through that. It's not bad, reminds me of Ziggurat with a few more bells and whistles, but I'm not a big fan of the rogue-lite genre in general. Less-so of the rogue-lite FPS genre. I like a certain amount of certainty in my FPS games, and when I pick up a scroll that completely fucks me over I get annoyed. But it's not a bad game, and fighting against the bad scrolls can be fun. I just like it when I have a certain amount of control over what happens.

GEC PSX Doom, Doom 64, Batman Arkham City, MK9, and Left 4 Dead 2 with some friends.

I seriously despise Chargers, the hit detection seems to be so, so off for them, like literally passing through players and still missing the charge somehow...

Many people don't seem to realize that Hammer of Thyrion isn't the only source port for Hexen 2, there's also UQE Hexen 2.

Yeah, when I was installing all that stuff and looking in my ancient game files stash for the Praevus patch, I spotted an olde copy of UQE of which I had completely forgotten about. Now I'm tempted to try running that again. Playing through Blackmarsh reminds me of the maps I once designed for Hexen 2. Oh well, too bad all that is gone except for a few tiny screenshots. heh.

I'm playing Princess Remedy, which is a charming and funny action RPG about a magical princess who sets off on a quest to rid the universe of all pain and unhappiness.

rock band 3, still =P

i can now get through Jerry Was a Racecar Driver on expert but no way can I preserve my multiplier for more than a few seconds lol. so many tight double kicks or three-kicks-in-a-row parts and im only using one foot after all. also got closer to mastering the shuffle on Everybody Wants to Rule the World and got five stars

game sort of lets you know how suspicious a drummer you actually are, I find the singing easier

Just started PC version of BloodRayne from GOG. BloodRayne 2 is next on the list. Then i will go back to Diablo 1, still need to play through with sorcerer (i hate this class in D1). Warrior is tough, Rogue is kickass.

Just finished up the UAC Ultra WAD on UV. I feel like I saved every 30 seconds, but I got through it in almost one sitting. Been playing Home Alone 2 on NES a lot also. It's become a bit of an inside joke. Can't get enough of that shitty game. When you see that first Rob Schneider cutscene, you know you're gonna be in for a good time.

Since it was a free giveaway a few days ago, I've played some Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. It's okay, though a bit confusing and I don't really like the real-time aspect for this kind of game, makes it easy to get distracted by stuff happening on two sides of the map at once.

I got Rebellion for free but I haven't played it yet, I do have a copy of the original soase game with its two expansions and I have played that.

Going through some of the games on the Genesis/Megadrive Collection for PSP(it's on my Vita).

So far I've gotten through Altered Beast, Kid Chameleon, Shinobi III, and Vectorman.

This leaves me with 24 Genesis games to go through.

I don't usually play multiple single player games simultaneously, but I was still hankering for a bit of shooter action so I started playing Area 88 (UN Squadron in North America) alongside Ultima 5. It's quite excellent and will definitely take me a while to get through on the harder difficulty settings.

This is me with jrpg's.  If I'm trying to juggle more than 1 I'll begin to mix up possible progression, story points, etc.  Ends up with me having this less than memorable experience where two games blur together.

Same, one at a time is the best way to be (with Doom on the side of course...or is my single player game on the side of Doom...it varies I guess)

Another season, another update for KF2. Details in the spoiler.

Spoiler

The update is Christmas-themed, naturally. The new map takes place in Santa's Workshop, and the player mercenaries are tasked with assembling, escorting, and delivering a nuke into Krampus' portal. The tasks are all mandatory and the specimens keep spawning until the job is done, so it's essentially like the Objective maps from the first game. Narrating and commenting on the job is Badass Santa, who's looking for payback for last year's calamity. Badass Santa is also a DLC character for purchase and is voiced by Gary Busey. I've never seen any of his work but I do remember his bizarre commentary on World's Dumbest (X) when I watched TruTV.

Onto the weapons, which Badass Santa has graciously granted to help with slaying specimens.

  • The M32 MGL is basically a 6-shot M79 GL and the flavor text says as much. I really didn't look forward to having this back in the sequel, on account of it replacing the single-shot LAW in the first game. Surprisingly, the M32 is not blatantly OP, despite being elevated to the Tier 5 weapons I've complained about before. The RPG is still the top pick for taking out the big guys. Recoil is significant enough to launch the grenades over your enemies if you're not constantly lowering the point of aim. Reload times are faster than the original without having to remove the empty casings beforehand. Even so, I definitely felt pressure to keep the M32 topped off whenever possible. Reserve ammo seems to be a bit short (at least on Suicidal difficulty), in part because I have a bad habit of wasting shots on little shit. It's still pretty nice to hear the weapon go THOOMP! THOOMP! THOOMP! when demolishing the bigger hordes and bosses.
  • The Tommygun returns from the first game and this one is strictly spray and pray. Plenty of bullets in its drum mag and the devs made adjustments to its handling to encourage that kind of lead delivery. The ironsights are really blocky and sometimes it's hard to tell where the front sight is, especially when things get hectic. Thankfully, the muzzle flash is not accurate to the gun, otherwise there would be a constantly flashing fireball covering what you're shooting. Too bad the gun is a bit anemic on SWAT; it's much better on Commando and only because of precedence in the first game.
  • The Fire Axe returns from the original mod and first game. I admit that I haven't used this much because I'm not a good Berserker. There's supposed to be a stun mechanic for the heavy attack, as a nod to the first game having a similar thing. But I couldn't tell you if it works because I'm wildly flailing about like some kind of dull-bladed human Cuisinart.
  • There's an unlockable Berserker weapon for completing the seasonal objectives in this update. It's a humongous battleaxe that does a monstrous amount of damage and sends bodies flying, but it has the slowest attack rate of any of the melee weapons. It's deceiving how a weapon that looks like it was cobbled together from the scrapyard is so expensive. At the very least, it does a lot more for the player than King Shit of Turd Mountain, who dual-wields them solely to block bullets from his face.

This trend of releasing boss weapons doesn't sit well with me. The Mkb from the previous event doesn't do anything to make itself different from the other assault rifles, other than be heavier. An upcoming laser weapon sounds an awful lot like a distinctive attack from another boss. If the Patriarch's gatling gun gets released as a player weapon, I may seriously consider stop playing. There's no way to make a gatling gun without making it OP (outside of the Doom Chaingun), and especially for a Perk who really has no business killing big enemies and bosses by himself.

(insert incoherent babble about OP weapons removing challenge in a game and making it boring and unengaging)

I've been playing the game on Suicidal difficulty proper after getting a mandatory altered taste of it in some of the weekly outbreaks. It's mostly the random daily objectives that direct me to do so, but I'm still not a fan of playing it if I don't have to. There were a few missteps at first, and I'm sure there will be more later, but I've been handling it fairly well.

Now I'm kinda stuck, wondering how much of it is due to player awareness and tactics, the Perk, unlocked skills and associated weapons. Would I still do well without the meta loadouts? I'd hate to attempt the weekly outbreaks with lower-level perks. Yet I see people on Youtube completing the weekly outbreaks with SWAT or Medic or even that mess of a jack-of-all-trades called Survivalist. And these are not people that are knowledgeable about game mechanics, they do some pretty boneheaded things and succeed despite it.

I'm thinking of replaying Ocarina of Time. Hard to believe it's 20 years old as of a few weeks ago. I remember playing it a lot once school let out for winter break. I still remember fighting the Forest Temple boss for over an hour and managing to nail him with the jump attack whenever he floated down low. How the hell was I supposed to know I can whack the energy balls back at him? Nothing in the game mentions this, not even Navi.

Thief Gold and Thief 2 were on sale at Steam so I've been replaying those.   I forgot how much I missed games like these...just brilliant, super creepy at times and the level of tension it brings me is bordering on sadistic.  I love it!

I may have to retry working with DromEd as these are my second favorite games of all time (just barely beaten out by Doom) but the last time I tried that was just painful.   The editor is an unstable mess.
