What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Blur.

A fantastic arcade racer that sold abysmally to the point that both it and Bizarre Creations were unceremoniously taken round the back and shot. I had no nostalgia for the game, I only picked it up on the cheap for the PS3 a while ago but I'm hooked. Nothing else looks or plays quite like it.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5, I swear to god I am absolutely obsessed with that game at the moment. The fact I'm doing it on Epic difficulty is a good sign I'm getting an early funeral! I will always see the game as the Earthbound of Final Fantasy!

Currently, I've been playing Duskers and goddamn does it give me mixed feelings. On the one hand it's really intriguing and atmospheric with a strangely addictive gameplay loop that encourages you to keep playing, even when things go to shit. On the other hand its very cruel with its randomness that can jeoporadise an entire run in a single level. Roguelikes usually aren't my kind of thing because I loathe having to completely start over from scratch, but the game's simplicity and procedural generation keeps things from feeling repetitive. It also helps that it provides a "soft reset" option, so you don't have to necessarily lose ALL your progress.

I won't lie, it has made me very angry a few times, but I still keep coming back to it.

Oh yeah, I feel you. I stopped playing it after a while, especially the game kept getting more unforgiving with every soft reset - by then, it gets more tedious than scary - and it became apparent that there was no endgame to speak of. What a shame.

Recently tried getting into the Metal Gear Solid series, starting with 1 on an emulator. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it but I was pleasantly surprised! The amount of boss fights is something I was aware of but was still something I'd say could've been lessened. The gameplay is fun but I wouldn't say it's the best part of the game for me.

The best part for me is probably its narrative.  It feels really ahead of its time for when it was released, the amount of cutscenes and dialogue must've been mad to people when it first came out back in 1998. The music is also great too, which helps to really sell those iconic moments. Just a well done game really, even if the boss fights and some gameplay sections can get tedious at times. I don't tend to play old console games all that much but I'm glad this one was an exception for me.

Also tried Counter Strike 2 recently... I'm fairly bad at it, and I get yelled at occasionally by people I can't understand over mic. I feel like I'm really getting the CS Experience and I don't know how to feel about that.

@Vanilla+Unicorn Dark Souls is one I've been meaning to get back to, I feel terrible that I got to Anor Londo and basically just stopped playing for some reason. I have no idea how much of the game I actually saw but I'd wager a guess maybe around fifty something percent? For a first time playthrough I actually did really well, going in knowing how this type of game is suppose to work, but I still made loads of newbie mistakes and I'm tempted to start over with my fresh knowledge of all things that pertain to soulsborne games.

Been playing Simcity 3000 for the last couple of weeks. I played 2000 when i was younger but could never understand how to make money. 3000 feels much easier, but the came cane be a little temperamental at times. Pretty fun so far.

I still find it pretty compelling despite how frustrating and malicious it can be. I managed to complete my longest run yet surviving 146 days, with most of them stuck with a single drone. True, I wound up stranded in the end, but I'm still chuffed I made it that far. Duskers is a bastard, but I've grown to kind of love it.

I play Quake II in average difficulty. I didn't play the RTX version cause i have serious problems of performance on a 2080, sometimes the game stutter and lag, unfortunately.

Warhammer 40K Boltgun.

Lore-wise it's a sequel to Space Marine and it feels like prep for the upcoming Space Marine 2. plays and feels like a modern Doom clone. I'm on the final act of the game and it has been a blast so far. All weapons feel nice, enemy variety is good, secrets are nicely placed, difficulty curve is perfect etc. The only downside the game has is the lack of a minimap combined with a somewhat confusing map design.

Finished Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Good game, despite a kind of repetition: climbing, action or stealth, puzzle to solve, cut-scene etc...

Now i'm playing The Last of Us part I, i'm in the chapter 3, and this is great, the background of the game is post-apocalyptic (my favorite genre with dystopia), there are some survival horror elements in the gameplay, crafting and amelioration of abilities and weapons like Metro Exodus and A Plague Tale Innocence, action and/or stealth approche. The game is beautiful with various environnements. This is a pleasure to explore it although this is a linear game. Great TPS.

I always get a hankering for Diablo (1) around October for some reason but I suspect it's because I have a tormented soul. Started a new game with the Warrior, using the Beelzebub (misspelled as Belzebub) mod as Satan intended. It's probably everything I would approve of if Diablo 1 had gotten a remaster, some of these QoL improvements rolled over from its more popular sequel are just difficult to live without when going back to the vanilla game. It also restores cut content like questlines and every questline is available during a game instead of being randomized on every playthrough. What's more is there's a shared stash that has its own save file which I completely forgot was a thing, so I had everything I had found and stashed away from a couple plus years ago, just have to level up or distribute attributes to equip them as I go, saving a lot of time. As a result I'm just postponing stat distribution as I level up until I need to, to balance things out by starting out with and advancing to better gear earlier.

The Talos Principle II

At first, I didn't think I was going to enjoy it nearly as much as the first -- there were some aspects to the opening sections which I found long-winded and annoying.

Now...

This game is stunning. Conceptually and visually. I love it so much.

The architecture is phenomenal, too. I will be walking around taking some screen-grabs later on as inspiration for my Doom maps.

Back to Lunacid release. I played the alpha previously. I am about to finish the game but there is more. And the areas, items and enemies that were added after the latest alpha are more than I expected and with really fantastic atmosphere and nice surprises. It will take me a bit more since I read there are more endings, and certain items only appear in full moon in real life time.

p.s. Meanwhile, since then I've played a lot of From Soft early titles, from King's Field 2 to 4 (I still have to play 1 and shadow tower). I can now see and understand more of the references. There is even a whole level inspired by a Demon Souls world, very very close, it's obviously a tribute. And more. There are more undiscovered stuff and will take me time.

Played some Half Life DM yesterday, and came across this map. This screencap comes from the Illumination Mario movie, which is less than a year old. I don't know who's still making Mario maps in goldsrc in the current year, but I'd like to meet them.

The touchHLE recently added support for the Wolfenstein RPG and DOOM II RPG for iOS. It's very nice to be able to play those games on a touchscreen as Carmack intended.

Playing Silent Hill: Origins on PCSX2. I really like Travis as a protagonist, and seeing bits from Silent Hill 1 with PS2 graphics.

Tried the Roboquest demo. It is an interesting game! Think of Borderlands - with a touch of XIII's aesthetics - if it were a roguelite and if it had Doom 2016's combat. Unfortunately, it does get a bit repetitive after a short while and as such I cannot help but wonder about the full game...

Borderlands 1. One of my top games up there with Doom, Age Of Empires 2, Mordhau, and Grim Dawn. I just love the games vibe and it's nice to wander around and shoot stuff. The later games in the series can be obnoxious yet still fun.

For some reason, I am still playing Fallout Shelter.

It helps that I still have not found another game that can be effortlessly played while listening to podcasts. Minor irritants aside, it is just a damn good game, I guess... I do wish they could make a proper sequel or at least expansions, like the many ones The Binding of Isaac got.

I played through Borderlands 3 recently and enjoyed that, so I went and bought Tiny Tina's Wonderlands on Steam yesterday since it was 75% off. Not too far into it, but I'm liking how it's the same gameplay as BL3 for the most part. The addition of spells instead of grenades is a great change, as they have a lot of fun types and uses as opposed to normal explosive grenades. I also really like the change of scenery. The fantasy setting is a nice change of pace for the series. I heard this game isn't too long, and that the DLCs aren't worth the normal price (I did buy the version with the season pass, but even that was 75% off so it was worth it), so I'm hoping it won't take me too long.

Also, this is the first modern FPS I've played on a PC, so I'm getting used to having to hit way more buttons than just "fire", "use", and "jump". I keep hitting the wrong buttons when trying to melee or use my action skill. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.
