Horizon Zero Dawn. Truckloads of fun robot dinosaur hunting, with a great protagonist and a lovely story.

Cuphead. They told me it was like Dark Souls. They lied.

Seriously, though, this game is fantastic. As someone who is old enough to remember when these old cartoons still got shown on TV, I can honestly say they nailed it. The game just oozes charisma at every point, every character is memorable, and I wouldn't be surprised if these guys ended up getting their own Saturday morning show at some point. What I love about it is that it doesn't shy away from just how dark and flat-out terrifying those old shows could be, and all of the gambling, alcohol and tobacco references remain intact, yet it still managed an E rating. I can't stress enough just how goddamn fresh it feels to play. Yes, it is ball-bustingly hard, but that was how games were back when I was growing up and it's so refreshing to sit down with a game which just goes, "here are the buttons, now get to it!" And as tough as it is, it never feels unfair, it just makes you more determined to beat the giant freak keeping you from the next island. And the music! My GOD, the music! Those cats got some SERIOUS swing! All the while I was waiting for Cab Calloway to show up.

So yeah, go get it, it's reasonably priced and runs smoothly on a housebrick. All in all, it sure is swell!

These days "like Dark Souls" is just a lazy journalist way of saying "it's hard". Which is a shame, because Dark Souls' combat is so much more nuanced than simply being difficult.

Indeed, I find it especially irritating given that I grew up on games like Turrican, Gunstar Heroes and Contra, all of which were brutally difficult and much more in line with Cuphead's gameplay. It's almost as if they geniunely think that difficult games didn't exist before Souls.

It has spawned some hilarious crossover artwork, though ...

Mega64 is awesome!

Currently playing, I'm almost done replaying Max Payne 2 at the moment! That guy is hella eloquent. I've also gotta pop on Sonic Mania.

Currently replaying Mass Effect 2 with my engineer Shepard after leaving it on hiatus for a time, this game is still pretty fun. I originally wanted to play it with a texture mod, but unfortunately it was causing my game to crash so I had to do a fresh install. It is still my favorite title of the whole series, I mostly love the dystopian atmosphere on Omega, and the Omega recruitment missions are still the most nostalgic to me.

Time for me to get into Dungeon Keeper. We'll see how I like it.

One of the GOATs of PC gaming. Anybody who claims to not like it will be promptly and swiftly shot into the sun.

Nah. Not by me anyway. I love Dungeon Keeper, and I much prefer it to the second game, but I can see why some people might dislike it. The atmosphere is not for everyone, and some people expecting a more straight-forward RTS game might get put off by the 'God-game' elements.

Spear of Destiny is better than the original Wolf3D anyway.

Anyway I'm playing Pathways Into Darkness. I'm doing much better at it than last time.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus in a week.

Currently I'm addicted to Playerunknown's Battlegrounds. I just past the 100 hour mark after buying the game just over a month ago. 5 wins in 104 hours is good, right?

Eh.

It has an amazing premise, but struggles to scale it's mechanics over an entire game's length. There is a point in the campaign (when you start mostly fighting other Dungeon Keepers) when it kind of loses track of what makes it great and takes a turn into "not so great RTS".

The entire underlying metaphor (being, you know, a dungeon keeper) that makes the game so appealing breaks down at that point, and it turns to "build a base, destroy enemy base".

I still love the game though, just not for longer stretches of time. It's great to fire up and play the first few levels now and again. :)

If you have never played DK before, I would be curious to see how the game holds up on its own these days.

Personally I prefer DK 2 but lots of the old fans generally say the first is best.

I like my DK not nerfed.

Ontopic: I've been playing OpenRA (Red Alert) with some friends yesterday. We also played some Dune 2000, but man... That game is hard.

I just started playing through Fable 1 (well, Fable Anniversary actually) and having been a huge fan of 2 and 3 I find Fable 1 rather alien.

Fable 1 is so all over the place in terms of features/mechanics, presentation and difficulty:

Features/mechanics: Fable has a fuck load of magic, an overwhelming amount compared to other titles in the series, the magic actually runs off of mana in this one so you can't spam spells (which is acceptable in my eyes). It has an armour system that has more factors than just armour rating (attractiveness, scariness, alignment modifier ect) which the other games had to a much lesser extent (clothing being relegated to simply cosmetic and auxiliary effects rather than survival), there's "good" (bright) and "evil" (dark) varieties of each armour so at least I can still be a good boy and not have shitty armour.

The rent system in this game is ass, I hate it and there is hardly any cash coming in to even get a house because you just blew it all on armour and weapons so you don't get fucked (which I'll cover in a moment). The civilian interaction is confusing and inept, I have to navigate 7 menus just to flex my handsome pecs at the farmgirl I want my character to vigorously... accost... And even then the simple minded twat will literally be losing interest in like 5 seconds anyway. This is even funnier when you "highlight" the civilian and your character gets ready to beat the ever loving gobshite out of them whilst they cower in fear as I present them with a rose, not the most romantic way to do it but its the only thing stopping your bumblefuck character getting romantic with a random gaurd in the background instead.

The weapons system has largely remained the same, flourishes and ranged attacks being exceptions. Flourishes are somewhat awkward to pull of and are remarkably the most important move, maybe more so than blocking. Ranged is actually really nice in this game and I like it... Until crossbows happen, those things are so fucking buggy, I've reloaded that bastard 5 times more than I've shot it and there is a super cool bug where if you lock on sometimes your character will auto spam arrows that do an astronomical, world ending, boss smashing 1 fucking damage.

Fuck crossbows.

Presentation: I never played OG Fable, so I can't say much but the art style is consistant and pleasing... Except the guards and children, guards are eyeless cenobites and I want nothing to do with em and the children are eldritch abominations who were really better off as hobbes to be honest.

Difficulty: I'd like to go in depth but you all stopped reading 3 lines in, so I'll just say it's all over the place. There was an early game side quest to save a kid from a hobbe cave which involved an escort mission against rooms literally filled with platoons of the big red unkillable cunt ones, yet the main quest after was a fucking breeze. Trolls in that game are also 0/10 worst boss.

Buuuuut... In conclusion I am actually enjoying it so everything I just said doesn't matter haha.

Carma 2 on hard is going well, reached group 6 and aced the hardest mission in the game so far (In Cold Blood) in one go with 18 sec to spare (thanks to the Bugga). Fighting and dying miserably in the Salt Barrens in Torchlight II, not only did I not expect the desert act to keep going but the game seems to've gotten pretty tryhard with excessively dangerous enemies that deal way too much damage, the same problem the first Torchlight had eventually. At least the Dark Zealot from T1 doesn't seem to exist?

I was really into StarCraft II but I couldn't play for extended periods of time because the game is so involved and matches can last for up to an hour, so I'm fairly exhausted after just a few games. With the release of TotalBiscuit's Axiom mod for SC2 my interest has been piqued once again, it takes some learning but it's a nice new feel for the game that's friendlier for casual play. Bless the modding community for those moments I happen across something that seems perfectly suited to fix whatever nitpicks I have with a game and heighten the overall experience for me.

Finished Jade Empire and Torchlight 2.  Now moved on to Dungeon Lords and No One Lives Forever (with the sideline in Left 4 Dead still ongoing).

After finishing Mankind Divided a week ago I went back to playing Human Revolution, surprisingly it is still enjoyable even after playing MD.
