Why You Chose The Username You Did

Recommended Posts

Back in 2017 I decided to have a good life and encountered some success in it for once, and I chose to find a new username that radiates positivity and FRESHNESS

First i was GhoulDesecrator, wich was a name i used in online games inspired by Altars of Madness from Morbid Angel. That was a bit similar do DesecratorJ, and started reminding me of Ghouls forest, so i switched to Mayomancer. My original twitch name was OldHydromancer (mocking the mtg card Young Pyromancer) but i switched to mayomancer after being mocked for putting mayo on pizza.

I used to have several different nicknames online as a kid, so i tried settling with one for every place (which i could also be happy with, unlike some previous ones), so i just said random words after my first name until they sounded cool together

it's been my online name since at least 2000, most people, even IRL, know me by kalaeth, kal or k so.. I use it everywhere.

Originally it came from a Tolkien fan-fiction I wrote at 14 or so, it's actually supposed to be a corruption of KalEdhel after centuries of usage by orcs (and KalEdhel means Elfic Shine).

My username is literally my pseudonym I use to credit myself in all my creative works. I came up with it back in 2010 when I drew a webmanga, and it actually references Princess Sakura from my favorite CLAMP manga, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. The first part, "Kokoro" is Japanese for "Heart" and the other, "Hane" means "Feather". So heart feather... in the manga, Sakura's heart (memories) was turned into feathers and scattered across dimensions, which Syaoran vows to find every piece of.

My username doesn't have that big of an origin story. I originally used it as my character name on a bunch of Space Station 13 servers and was an evolution of my old username which was Koolboi

My username came from basically my name (Tom) and cacodemons (my fav demon) is nicknamed tomato and I put the word tomato and tom together; it fits perfect in my opinion.

i wanted something that screamed mid-2000s edgy with some l33t-speak to go along with it..

Ah yes, I remember those times, fun indeed.

And definitely better than what kids are coming up with in games nowadays, wtf.

Wanted something gender neutral. Played around with the video game name generator, eventually it gave me Twin <something-I've-forgotten> Beast. Thought the Twin and Beast sounded good together. Doesn't come from Twin Peaks, like a lot of people have asked in a chat.

"Hey mom, CoDYoutubeNoscope69Sharpsh00ter420 says he slapped you in the head with his peepee"

I love when kids put their YouTube channel in their name so people can gaze in awe at their three subscribers.

I was 1st place in a competitive axe throwing league until COVID happened. Slowly getting back into it! People aren't really signing up, which isn't surprising.

On the cover of the Nirvana biography "Come As You Are" Kurt Cobain is wearing a shirt that says "Flipper" but his overshirt covers up the corners so all you see is "lippe" and I always read it as "lippeth". The book was simply in range when it came time to create my first email address.  I think I was 14 and don't have a proper excuse as to why I still use it.

Originally, Omniarch was the executive title of the transhuman dictator main villain from a sci-fi novel I wrote when I was thirteen. I thought it was really clever at the time, so the title ended up becoming my main handle, and just sort of stuck around through sheer inertia. I suppose it had a better ring to it than "Empire", my previous handle.

...

What? Who didn't have delusional dictatorial aspirations as a child?

I think it was my 13th birthday, my dad was taking me and two friends to laser tag. In the car we were coming up with funny codenames by combining random adjectives and nouns. I came up with "magic sofa" then which we all thought was suitably absurd and had a good laugh. I've used it for almost 20 years now and have no plans of changing it, it actually feels like my second name at this point.

Side note, one time I was walking around town and someone passing looked at me and said "magicsofa?" I was like yeah that's me, how did you know? Well I had made a character on his sister's wii that was so accurate, he recognized me from it, lol

You know that famous photo of the Id guys ? Someone told me one day that John Carmack's smile probably inspired the evil grin, and I happen to have the exact same smile. So yeah.

I was gonna change my name to raven since back then it used to be something really generic, so I used raven as a placeholder, from ravenholm. It stuck and I grew with it until that one day where I wasn't able to change back my name to raven so i just added HL at the start, you can probably guess what it means

I chose it in honour of our lord and saviour, Rupert Murdoch. Praise be to Lord Rupert!

Nah, it's just my last name. Creative, I know.
