Someone could actually do something interesting with this, could accommodate a lot more monsters and fewer resources, still be very difficult but with less chance of insta-death compared to a N!-balanced one.

How about "Rice on a Chessboard": the first map has 1 monster, the second map has 2, the third has 4, MAP04 has 8 monsters and keep doubling until you get to MAP30.  "What's so stupid about that" said a medieval rajah too lazy to do math

Or a community project where maps can only use crate textures but also 90 degree angles are now allowed

Just for reference, MAP16 would already have more monsters than Okuplok, and MAP18 would surpass Cosmogenesis by a huge degree.

A mod that plays the sounds of really powerful enemies as if they were right behind a door, or even shows them in the distance for a split second, but they don't exist.

It’s not actually a mod idea but a stupid idea: each sector is tagged as secret excepted the real secret areas.

What about every sector tagged with a random effect??

Although, I guess that would mainly just be a bunch of flashing lights, damaging floors...and the occasional sector that just permanently turns into a closed door...

ammo, health and misc props are replaced with random items of clothing

monsters fight as normal but you can dress them to make them not attack

exit lines don't work until 75% of all enemies have been dressed

you can also dress the hanging/impaled dead guys i guess (sicko)

I've been putting off mentioning this for a while now, but a "Helluva Boss" WAD.

With the newest episodes bringing to light some new things to the lore, I'd love to see the series in some kind of video-game form (non-Flash that is), and the idea of the four IMPs being selectable characters, and running around killing things around Hell and Earth sounds awesome. And appropriately ironic after all of the DOOM art with Hazbin Hotel.

I can already picture the characters and their specialties:

Blitzo - Agility (meaning he runs the fastest, and jumps the highest, but he has mid-health to counter it, and can carry less weapons)

Speciality weapon - Precursion-shot that functions like the regular shot-gun, but instead of a spread-shot, it deals out all that damage in one focused accurate bullet, but takes a millisecond more to reload.

Moxxie - Inventory and Accuracy (meaning he can store the most weapons, and shoot the best, however he's countered by being the weakest in terms of health, however his agility is more mid-range)

Speciality weapon - Dragunov sniper that has the firing power of a Double-barrel, but takes three-times as long to reload, and only hits the target if you stand still. Meaning you have to be efficient about it.

Millie - Melee and Slight Agility (not as bouncy or fast as Blitz, but can take down enemies the best when she's holding anything you can bash or slash someone over the head with, mid health, and not very good with guns)

Speciality weapon - Chainsaw that can cut down enemies faster than the regular one, provided you move fast enough to dodge their counters, the longer you stay slashing an enemy, the faster their health drops gradually, especially useful for the Cyberdemon stand-ins.

Loona - Tank (Low agility, Speed and Jumping, but has an unbelievable amount of Health, and specialises in focused low-tier Melee attacks, somewhat good with guns, only if they're heavier)

Speciality weapon - Her own Claws. She can slash her way trough any enemy looking for trouble, however thanks to years of poor health choices, she needs to catch her breath the longer you slash, meaning she gets slower.

But that's an oversimplified summary in one go. Will emphasise on it if anyone's interested. Now for the texture-replacements of the others/mooks:

Zombieman - DHORKS Agent

Shotgun Guy - Imp thug

Imp - DHORKS Bioengineered Priest

Pinky - Overmuscled Hellhound

Spectre - Overmuscled Ninja Hellhound w/ visible night-vision goggles

Lost Soul - Vox Drone

Cacodemon - Flying Exterminator/Cherub

Baron of Hell - Satan's Enforcer

Cyberdemon - Some DHORKS/Vox Demon-busting robot

Spider Mastermind - unsure

What do you think?

1) Skeptic Doom - A Doom mod where the protagonist is an reddit neck-beard atheist and attacks are various "AKSHULLY" rants and info about how the demons don't/can't actually exist.

2) D!SLOP series - A D!ZONE style compilation of 100+ maps from vets and newcomers designed to be deliberately amateurish (quick buildt-time with virtually no playtesting or quality control) but still fun held every few months. Effectively an inverse of 1994TU, or Pandora and Fastest Shovel, but with way more participants. OST comprised of mostly d_runnin, remixes of d_runnin, and a few crappy pop/rock midis thrown in for authenticity.

Forget McDoomnalds and Caco Bell, this is the next restaurant-themed doom map you should make. The storyline is already there.

One powerup on every map has a small chance of spawning as a bottle of medication that, when picked up, causes the hallucinations to go away for a short time.

After talking about what sort of characters various demons would be: A doom fighting game mod made in GZDoom/Zandronum/Odamex.

I remember someone once made the entirety of UMK3 playable in vs in Skulltag/Zandronum ages ago, so it's far from impossible. Hell, could even go the MK Tournament Edition/Tekken Advance route and make it a 3D-environment/2D-characters fighter.

Would it be way way easier to make it MUGEN? Yes. Would it be as impressive and stupid as making it in the actual Doom engine? No!

D!SLOP sounds really interesting

Here's an idea: Rather than just removing the quality control, design the levels to evoke the best parts of the kind of maps you'd see newbies putting out, then apply much more design wisdom to make something really eye-opening. I'm talking short, simple maps with absolutely no bullshit. No convoluted backtracking, no switch puzzles, little reliance on keycards, etc. The main difficulty comes from how small the maps are, giving you little to no room to maneuver

As for the aesthetics: Simple and primarily readable, but with enough personality that they don't just look corporate

Yeah, I also posted it in the actual CP suggestion thread for a reason. Lol.

I feel like the issue is I'm basically proposing the opposite of the 1994 Tune Up project. Like, take maps that are good and make them deliberately worse in some regards. I even outlined criteria in greater detail.

https://www.doomworld.com/forum/post/2818696

The issue is convincing experienced people to join on when they could be making things that are actually good. Other than just using "the fun of building a mountain of garbage" as a selling point. At least, assuming that's not enough.

I already have a good subtitle in mind: "A Tribute to Sturgeon's Law"

An over the top, violent, 90s grossout, TC about killing aliens called "It's Green And Pissed" (what wolf 3d started life as). I just imagine like Nickelodeon/Clayfighter/Primal Rage aliens in Doom/wolf 3d. Or like M-Rated Chex Quest.

Every time I hear that name I just start thinking about wtf that could possibly entail.

It's like the "Metal Up Your Ass" of id Software.

A Tom and Jerry mod where you can run around a house, as either the cat or the mouse, trying to beat each other up, outsmart each other with traps, or play "tag" where the cat has to catch the mouse to win. Perfect for multiplayer maybe.

Kind of like a combination of the "House Trap" and "Fists of Fury/War of the Whiskers" games, but in first person.

Then again, that could probably work better as a TC of the SRB2 variant. Because of it's added flexibility.

Speaking of ambiguously gay destruction prone cuddle-psychotic animal compatriots.

A Sam & Max WAD

It's no secret that these former underground comic stars have historically been the poster children of the better slice of the Point-&-Click gaming genre in their post-fame prime, but what if we take full advantage of their destructive elements with a WAD where you can play as either one, or a weird third wheel, in order to go around shooting and destroying things?

I mean, I'm surprised there hasn't been any comedic shooters of these two at any point in their history. And while I agree that their interactivity is the best part of their games, so is their wanton destruction, which is surprisingly downplayed in even the Telltale titles.

But that's just my stupid idea. Make of it what you will.

an episode long wad where the only enemies are; vassagos, tyrants, mindweavers, masterminds, cyberdemons, and banshees(all non vanilla enemies from the new steam update). The only weapons are; the pistol, shotgun, and supershotgun, and a bat the player can use to knock banshees back at other enemies as a fast projectile that does double their normal damage, with forced blast damage.

Liero Doom, anybody?

Obscure freeware game from 1998 with worms, grappling hooks, recursive ammo, and excessive gore. Has a modern port in OpenLiero X

Main stupid sticking point: How do you compress all 50 or so weapons into something that's not a nightmare to navigate and 'balance'?

A PWAD where a powerup colormap change allows Doomguy to read messages on the walls, for example mandatory tips to reach the end of the level (eh, we are on the stupid mod idea thread).

Without this (or these) colormap changes, Doomguy won’t see the messages.
