Doom Classic Complete on DVD

Recommended Posts

I was browsing a local shop, when I found that the original Doom with all of it's expansions has been released on DVD, and it's called Complete Collection (just like PSN and Steam releases). Since I didn't find any particular information about this release, I thought I ask, does anyone have this? Does it contains the unaltered iwads? Does it uses DOsBox or some kind of other engine to run the game on modern OS?

Here's how the case looks like:

Why does it claim to have No Rest for the Living when the wiki says the PC version doesn't include it? For that matter, Steam isn't even mentioned on the cover.

I'm suspicious of whether it's an official release. It'll be cool if so.

It is an official release, you can buy it in stores in Poland, Hungary and Czech Rep (or Slovakia, can't remember precisely) for about 10$. I bought it like a year or so ago for a friend. Inside the fancy orange blu-ray case is DVD with custom launcher and Steam installer, and a piece of paper with Steam key for Doom Classic Complete bundle. That's all. There's like 40 megabytes of data on the disk. There's a similar release of Quake "anthology".

Oh, and just remembered, one of the screenshots on the back is taken from frikkin Brothersoft, watermark and all.

According to the publisher, the PC version of Doom Classic Complete does not include NRFTL. They apparently changed the cover now with corrected listing.

For one thing, it’s actually a CD (it supports raw read mode, with or without subcode reading. DVDs don’t). As for NRFTL, it’s completely missing (as already stated).

Thanks for the info :) Looks like it's just a Steam installer, which is lame. I suppose unless you're on dialup, skip this one.

Whatever happened to the days of the Doom Collector's Edition? It was a little bit of a cheap cash-in too, but at least all the IWADs were directly accessible from the CD, no installer required.

I'll have this version from PSN. All I have to say Doom v1.9 is the best. On latest editions they just cut and change some content.

I remember buying this on my Mac back in November 2016 after having stopped pirating it. I then pirated it again because it's Windows only (Despite the fact that DosBox has Mac and Linux versions) and I had forgotten that Wine even existed.

I was going to say that they wasted a DVD for this. You can fit all on a 32MB flash drive and still have room for Heretic: SotSR, Hexen: BH & DKotDC, Strife and even Chex Quest.

Totally LAME.

Nearly year later, I still need to see the corrected cover art, without NRFTL or and with fixed typo "THE Master Of Levels". They just don't care.

And that Brothersoft watermark, come on...
