CapnClever Posted August 27, 2017 I'm trying to find a map similar to BOOMEDIT.WAD (here's a video of it in action) but showcasing only features in the original engine. I realize that vanilla isn't capable of much in the first place, but a playable means of comparing the two would prove useful. 0 Share this post Link to post
BigDickBzzrak Posted August 27, 2017 @uhbooh once mentioned that he was working on something similar. I'm not sure if that went anywhere. 0 Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted August 27, 2017 Are you saying there is such a WAD and you just can't find it, or are you asking if such a WAD exists at all? 0 Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted August 27, 2017 are you looking for a wad that demonstrates all vanilla linedef actions, or a wad that demonstrates vanilla editing tricks like instantly raising floors, bleeding sectors, self referencing sectors, etc.? 0 Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted August 27, 2017 The closest thing that comes to mind is spcial2b.wad from https://www.doomworld.com/3ddownloads/tutorials/spcial2b.zip. 0 Share this post Link to post

Only a map that demonstrates what mapping features exist and their most basic usage: linedef actions, sector specials, stuff like that. A wad that shows off tricks (such as SPCIAL2B.WAD) is also quite neat, but not as mundane as what I'm currently looking for. I am not aware of such a wad existing (so far as simple /idgames and internet search engine queries go). If I can't find one I might take the time to build it myself. 0 Share this post Link to post
fraggle Posted August 27, 2017 I love the idea of this. That video of boomedit.wad you've linked is mine; have you seen the interactive boomref.txt that it links to? It would be great to have something similar for Vanilla Doom. I wondered if the Unofficial Doom Specs might be an option but it seems that doc doesn't go into a lot of detail about the different linedef types in a way that it would be helpful. I'd second covering both the mundane and special tricks. They could be in separate WADs or in the same WAD. 0 Share this post Link to post
joepallai Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) What about the map used in Doom Gurus/3d Alchemy to show authors how to make a map. If I'm remembering right it used almost every feature and action type. I'm not sure of it's name. This was D2ARENA.wad on the disc (or ARENA.wad on Gurus) nevermind, not close to what you're looking for. Edited August 31, 2017 by joepallai : finally had chance to see video in 1st post 0 Share this post Link to post
