New Demon Idea

How about, this time around, id puts some sort of ghst/spirit in Doom3 instead of just tangible demons that you can shoot? Seeing a ghost wandering about some sort of darkened corrridor would be terrifying, I think. Of course the only way the thing would be able to hurt you is through suffocation, where it slowly draws your energy away from you. Imagine encountering one of these during a big battle.
Tell me what you think.

I really like the ghost/spirit idea. Maybe even have ghost with differant moods. For example, a ghost which doesnt attack u but just goes through you. Or a spirit that follows u and trys to kill u the whole map by for example make things of the map fall down. ( Like a sort of ceiling ).

an enemy that is a ghost that you cant kill or gib, tries to kill you by setting traps...the doomguy is a marine, not a ghostbuster people...

an alternative to this is if id brings forth hell themed levels (which im sure they will) but in the hell levels they should have ghosts/souls flying aimlessly with hopeless facial expressions...they cant hurt you theyre just there to make it look more convincing of the "Hell" title

Yeah, space is considered "sea", why then are space ships designated as "ships" (look at the word "spaceship", notice there is a "ship" in there, and ships commonly travel across seas).

Seas are also thought of as endless expanses of nothingness inbetween shores, and while technicially they aren't endless and they do ahve stuff in them (water), this definition also applies to outer space (an endless expanse of nothingness inbetween planets [shores]).

Any military unit includes "demonbusting" if the demons come to them. Anything that aggressivly attacks a military force is fair game to be "busted". After all, in the doom story, it was the marine security force and the diemos/phobos teleporter labs that were *attacked* - the demons came to them, they didnt go to the demons.

Yeah, ghosts are a good idea. When phased out any physical attack should go right thorugh them, but energy weapons could ahve a 50% of normal effect on them (rotating phase 90 degrees means you are translucent and cannot be interacted with physcially by solid or liquid objects, but physical energy could have a small effect on you... rotating phase 180 degrees removes you from this reality and puts you in the other one that exists in the opposite phase that ours does).

EDGE has the capability to do what that person did with dehacked (in edge, give something "stealth" [i belive], and they only go visible when they try to attack you... you can still hit them while invisible though).

It would only be fair for the ghost to be able to inhabit a dead corpse - so long as it has not sustained immobilizing structural damage (ie, if it has a hole the size of new york blown in it [rocket hitting a trooper], then it should be off limits unless the ghost is willing to repair the damage [not likely]). Some behavior modifiers include greater toughness, higher aggressiveness, greater speed, and the ability to leave their body at any time.

In addition, i think they sohuld also be able to make a bid at possessing the player's body too, it could make your view jump around (like you were cutting something with the chainsaw) and you might only ahve a certain aomunt of time before it comepletly takes over in which to rid yourself of it (humms... how would you get it out?, and how would you know how bad it's getting over time... perhaps the player's view should steadily turn blue then to black or sometihng). What eveil monster demon wouldn't want control of a combat powerhouse like the player character?

THe whole idea was that the marines and technicians on the base were sitting around drinking coffee, watching pornos, throwign cards, smoking, whatever (having a good time doing nothing), and allt he sudden the teleporter system somes online and all sorts of weirdos pop out of it.

THere is no demonbuster element to it because in effect you are isolated, alone (except for the monsters), on a desolate very small moon around mars. Anybody that wasnt killed outright were posessed by spirits - you and anybody that was roaming aorund senseless after the attack run into them and start askign questions only to be met with the buisiness end of one of the corporate's standard rifles.

This might no be the wayt he story goes, as a matter of fact i think a securty force is sent to the moon that had the "accident" and then you get marooned. Its all the same though.

There is no intermission in which you report back to base and then get new orders - as a amtter of fact i dont think flynn taggart gets *any* orders or contact with sane human civilization until he gets back to earth (and by then it's not sane anymore). He then acts as a suicidal field agent, to far into the fray to be extracted, the best cahnce the entire military has at bringing down the demon's fire shield aorund the earth's surface (one man in this case is better than a hundred) - after the he's not expected to live, chalked up as a nobile sacrifice to save the rest of humanity, then he emerges from the rubble after the whole demon complex collapses - after that it's a blur... probably nt too long after this he gets abducted by the vadrigar (and thrown into the intergalactic arena eternal - quake3).

Flynn taggart had no choice but to *be* a "demonbuster". However, after he passes, and the dark coud of history forgets most of the demon war - They strike again at the outermost fringes of interglactic civilization/colonization (this probably happens not too long after the stroggos war - in which humans might ahve stolen some of the strogg technology to make faster ships -> to colonize into outer space).

Quake1 may have happened in the dark ages following the first demon war - tryign to terminate the last reminants of demon infestation that had been isolated in the lost parts of the world (man i got carried away).

You know that is a pluasible Idea. I mean their are similarities between monsters in doom and Quake.
In Quake 3 all Heros from the Dooms and Quakes turn up.

However Doom is set in the Future quake is set in a few years time.............

Unless................The Demons strike. Reducing us to primitive times, a few centuriespass and Humanity has rebuilt itself, And covered up that "little space disaster"
Sticking to earth bases.

Just after the "Doom Wars":
With The Icon Of Sin destroyed Hell is in Chaos
the top order eliminated. It is everydemon for itself, so A young General named "Quake" decides to take it upon himself to take charge and re-organise hell. Fortunately he is not popular, so he Tracks down the doomguy, and ambushes him.
Doomguy Fights Desperately but is beaten. Quake takes doomguy prisoner and shows that Doomguy has been caught.
He then takes Doomguy to a cave with plans to kill him.
However just before the rocket hims doomguy a blue sphere envelopes him and he dissapears from sight.
Quake Shrugs and Proclaims victory. He is crowned leader and starts rebuilding hell. Going for the magical realm instead of technological.
He rebuilt the great army of hell.
Centuries pass. In a general Inspection of worlds he stumbles upon Earth. He Gets Mighty Pissed. That this earth
had survived after what it did all those years ago, despite the armies best attempts to destroy it.
However He got too enthusiastic. He got his ass heavily kicked. He Was badly injured and fled to another realm. one he thought was uninhabited. Except he stumbled upon a fearsome race who Used parts of defeated enemies as food or Fusing them to cyborg Skeletons. He integrated his way into this new race, hoping to take control and recover from his defeat by Ranger of The Earth Military Defence. However things got bad when they Humans Game to the Stroggos.

The Quake war.

Quakes first attack on earth was not as co-ordinated as the Icons Was. His forces initially took control of the four bases they attacked until One man Ruined the Slipgate devices in all four bases, once Re-inforcements had ran out for Quakes forces on earth they were slaughtered. Also One realm had been defeated by a small force of men and found a new way in to his other realms and thoroughly handed pain to them. When The Marines won this battle they put plans back into action to get space defence on the agenda.

The Second Quake war.

Unfortunately for quake the way he arrived in this realm swallowed a stroggos ship into the last dimension of his homeworld. The Over excited marines took this as a threat and opened fire on this carrier. before it exploded it sent an SOS to the home planet of the Stroggs, it took years for it to be picked up but when it did they launched a full offensive and just outmatched the Marines and eliminated all of the colonies of our galaxy then nuked earth.
But this time instead of packing up shop they got a ship built and sent it to the Stroggs homeworld. Yet it didn't work, the dropships all crashed onto the planet they lost 60% off their army in one go. But the marines didn't give up at all and tried to disable all of stroggos defences, they finally did it but there were very few survivors, Only one made it through to the Head of the Strogg council, after a tough battle the Makron was defeated. The Survivor named Bitterman Jumped into an escape pod and flew out of the asteriod before it exploded unfortunately the pod hit the planet hard and was "killed". In reality he suffered the same fate as Doomguy. All of the hero's of the war got the same treatment transported to the prison realm of the Vadrigar. Where they were force to deathmatch each other as entertainment.
Quake Was again annoyed that he could be defeated again so he did research for several centuries into time travel. when he finally finished he travelled back in time to seconds before the war and attempted to change the path of the war. Some how though doomguy came with him.....................................................



Yah. I know, Fan fiction. I will have to tidy it up a fair bit to put it there but this is one theory of how you could tie up the "story's" of Most ID Games.

Actually I dont think flynn taggart would have been taken captive taking into consideration how much power he really has.

Doom is set in the future - but not too distant future. As far as the storyline is concerned it might not happen too long after the youngest of us on the forums here dies (about 60-80 years from now).

They never said when quake 1 took place (by saying this i mean we have no clue whatsoever as to where quake takes place or what time it takes place). An important clue though is how relativly low-tech everything looks - Even below the current technology level of our modern civilization. The weapons - nailguns, rocket and grenade launchers, even the lightning gun all look like they were made extremely low budget - like it was made of stuff you'd find in a junkyard. This suggests that something major happened recently that put humanity into the awkward position of no being able to mass-produce things (ie, no factories, and with this - probably no cities either). However, the lightning-gun technology is interseting, and i dont belive that they would ahve been able to invent lightning guns during this depressive time (which points to some technology that existed before whatever great calamity happened - lightn ing tech being a half-assed version of it).

Quake2 most undoubtably happens in the future - even later than doom. Major clue = bfg10k is an enhancement over the bfg9k. THe hyperblaster shoots faster than the plasma gun too - and there are more energy weapons (3 this time instead of 2 - one of which never runs out of ammo [big tech advance!]). The SSG is a double barreled shotgun working off of it's own ammo feed, it is not single shot like doom's was.

I find it hard to belive that Quake1 could have happened before doom1/2. Seeing as in doom you are still using pistols. And the "slipgate" system used in Quake1 bears alot of resemblance to the teleporter systems in Doom (with the exception that the ones in Quake look alot more like a human tech).

And it makes alot of since that Quake1 would be after doom because the kind of event that happened in doom *would* put humanity into a dark-age of sorts (all of the cities are destroyed, manufacturing and food production are at all-time lows... post apocalyptic scene). Because technology and knowledge never dies (with the exception of the atlantians), humans pick up the pieces and start re-building technology that they already had before everything literally "went to hell".

So:
~2040 - UAC takes over control of NASA and likewise military operations.
2060ad - diemos, phobos moons of mars settled by UAC.
2070ad - diemos/phobos teleporter facilities overrun, soon after a portal is established to earth homeland. The person who pushed the demons back into nonexistance disappears soon after victory is claimed (abducted by vadrigar).

~2090ad - while humans are trying to put the pieces back together a demon uprising by shub-nuggurath happens, of course again only a lone warrior is capable of bringing it to it's knees.

2100-2110ad - humans are starting to get back on their feet again, re-establishment of communities, manufacturing, and technology. Old records dating back to before the great war are recovered. SETI program revived due to the fact that it is now more believable that there could be alien life.

~2140ad - Stroggos patrols receive human radio signals, since the stroggos are a collective-type civilization it is with utmost urgency that they try to invade earth - they desperatly need new material...

2141ad - Stroggos' chief commander - Makron, is slain by errant human soldiers who missed their drop point while assaulting the Stroggos home world. With the Makron destroyed, all other controlled alien lifeforms on the planet and surrounding areas go inoperable. Advanced alien transportation technology (faster than light) is laid at the feet of the humans - and like all good curious creatures they take it.

2190-2200ad - Human colonies are disappearing on the very farthest outskirts of the new frontier. Cause is unknown but the pattern of assaults closely resembles that of another force from long ago...

Actually DooM and Quake happen in alternate universes, it's all explained in Q3A, where the Vadrigar capture DooM, Ranger and Bitterman for their own amusement.

Yeah I know.
As I think I said at the start this is just ONE way to explain things.

My theory Is that Bitterman, Ranger, DoomGuy (Let's call him BAZ ;)(for the hell of it))
Are from the same Dimension.
So are half of the combatants
The rest. (Biker, Hossman, Patriot, razor, Sorlag, Anarki)
You get the picture.
THEY are from alternate realities, considering humanity in "our dimension never got that far. First "Doom" Next "Quake"
then "Quake 2" (In my story "Quake" WAS the Makron. I didn't explain that. I sorta painted "Quake" as a Demon Con man. ( Also that he is Human.)(Immortal) Didn't say that either. but it was Implied)
this means hoverboards and Motor bikes don't exist.
Or a crude form did.
Klesk. Was an IMP. But an Imp from a Peaceful dimension (one that didn't attack earth)
They might of had that technology (hoverboard) from Quake 2 after the Stroggos destruction. But My Theory is that the Carrier was Built from the ruins of Strogg Vessels. Also the weapons were adapted from Strogg Weapons. but they only went on the carrier. A sort of Last Ditch attempt at peace. Most of the technology was not heard of on earth. They had other Technologies.

Also I played Quake3 arena Recently. there is a theme. Quite a consistent one. The Arena Eternal are breking up.
More proof is that Xaero WANTED to die. Read the manual, see the Outro. (The last levels were in space. had a construction the to them. Why? I think I know why.
The Trigger was Quake time travelling back. Somehow taking Baz :) with him. This Destabilized the Arenas and they collapsed. All the survivors of the Arena's Destruction hopped onto a fleet of "Cruisers" (Read: escape ships)
which headed to where earth was supposed to be.

Yah. It is Speculation. EXTREME speculation.
If I get around to it me being a lazy bastard and all. I might tidy up my original Idea a couple of posts up and extend it. Put it in the Fan Fic Forum.
Also, If you want a REALLY good version of Quakes "story"
(It's extended quite a bit) (4 Hours to be exact)
Get the SEAL OF NEHAHRA machinima for Quake. It is long, but damn good. Quite an Interesting Version of quake.

Yeah, the Seal of Nehahra looks awful, but it's DAMN NICE. It's 3 hours long, and 300 mb uncompressed, but it's worth the time. Quake 1 receives a very decent & solid storyline with this one.

"Seal of Nehahra"? what's that (i prolly dont know aobut it because it's so large).

My storyline is just my way of fitting the quake series and doom series into the same universe. Of course this can be done with other games, barely with some, and not at all with others. For instance: Half-Life cannot exist in the same dimension as doom or quake. Unreal might be able to fit in the extreme future (like 2700ad, i dunno, did they supply a time&place?).

I find that all of my fan fics are relativly large-event based or pure event/history based compilations. Ie, in my stories you dont usually hear things from the main character's point of view, but rather see things happen in stages - there is no main character except for entire forces (like "UAC" or "Demons" or "Shub-Niggurath" or "Stroggos"... in the above story the main character is the UAC).

The Seal of Nehahra is a free user-made mission pack for Quake I, but it's also a machinima. It's basically a 3 hour long cinematic that represents all the Quake story in a "movie-like" fashion.

Very entertaining, if you can stand the shitty models.

It is very entertaining. The Models used for the characters are UGLY. but is very good. I reccomend getting it Galahad. Use a Download Resumer.

Seal of Nehahra blows... i cant even run it form a public computer (that's where all the bandwidth is)... and i dont have Quake1 anymore (and it's bad enough that the filez are zipped and not self-executing zipfiles... hard as hell to get a zipfile reader installed on these computeres).

It'd take me about a year to get Seal of Nehahra downloaded onto my home computer.

...but that still doesnt change the fact that it's a zipfile, and that it's not in .avi or .mpg format that windows media player would be able to read (i thought machinima was made using a game, then exported to video footage...).

And it still doesnt change the fact that i would need Quake1 just to view the damn thing...

I don't see the problem here. What connection do you have at home?

I only have a "56Kbps" modem. It is rubbish. A 28Kbps goes faster almost.

Also Machinima is Game Engine. Purely Game Engine.
There are some people who convert it to streaming video on real, so you can see why I prefer using the Game Engine version. So MUCH better.
I hate REAL. IT Sucks.

This brings me to my final question:
Don't you own Quake?
Why not?
It would be bout 5 bucks in a budget bin.

Over here on the other hand it would be $30 while Quake 2 sits in the budget bin at ten bucks...............($15US for Quake, $5US for QuakeII) Sad. but true.

Winzip is all of 1.2MB. Hell It would fit on Bloddy Hotmail. takes bout 10 seconds to install. If the idiot running the public area comes over just tell him that windows in doing an important operation. and leave it at that. Trust me. It works. Ridiculously easy. then use a Download accelerator that sits in the system tray. Most Computo-ciles don't look there. set it up. start downloadin then come back in an hour. PResto. free download.
But then we have a problem. you can't exactly watch it in the public area. So why do you use public PC's?
Just do it at home.
