Doom 1: Easy by modern standards but still an enormously fun, atmospheric experience.

 

Doom 2: EHHUEHUEHUEHUE LET'S PUT IN ANOTHER FIVE REVENANTS IN THIS HERE ROOM (also supershotgun is fucking great but that's about the only thing I like about Doom 2)

 

TNT: Good mapset, if a little generic.

 

Plutonia: I have a Chaingunner body pillow. My waifu is a Chaingunner. I have bought three Chainguns imported straight from the UAC and trained in many years to use them. I only wear bloodstained heavy combat armor and I only eat human flesh taken from corpses. Therefore, I will put nothing but Chaingunners into my .wad.

I have both, but I use Zandronum for any mods that don't explicitly require the latest GZDoom features, because:

  • I've got used to Zandronum's unique air control.
  • Being able to launch singleplayer-in-multiplayer-mode from within the game.
  • GZDoom no longer has the classic software renderer.

Lmao I can't think of more than one place in Doom 2 with 5 revs (The spirit world's locked door). Did you mean plutonia?

Isn't there a place in The Crusher where there are several revs on a platform? Incidentally, there's also a SSG in that same room...

 

Edit: OK, there are only 3 revs, but to make up for it, there are also 2 chaingunners. Plutonia feeling right there :-p

I'm pretty sure you're aware of vid_renderer, so I have to ask exactly what do you mean by that?

The software renderer that GZDoom is using since it went GPL is different from the software renderer that it had previously.

None of the differences led me to Zandronum, I was already using Zandronum as my main port before the new software renderer emerged, it just provided a bonus reason to keep using it. The new renderer's key features (truecolor lighting and three-point perspective) are in fact still toggle-able to the old behavior, and as long as they remain that way (including functionality of COLORMAP-based tricks and such), I would have no problem with GZDoom in this regard. Not saying that truecolor lighting and three-point perspective are bad, just that the old behavior which I'm used to has its benefits too.
