Yhe1 Posted September 21, 2017 If every FPS game was like Doom 2016, would you start missing the modern military Shooters? 0 Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted September 21, 2017 They arguably aren't even the same genre of game. 6 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted September 21, 2017 No, but I would miss other non-military shooters. 3 Share this post Link to post
Voros Posted September 21, 2017 If every FPS game was like Doom 2016... Then I suppose the term "Doom clone" will become relevant again :) But sometimes, I want to go tactical, like the Delta Force games, and sometimes I just want to rip and tear. 6 Share this post Link to post
MFG38 Posted September 21, 2017 I was never fond of modern military shooters. So no, I wouldn't miss them. In fact, I want to see more FPS games like DOOM '16. 1 Share this post Link to post
Red Posted September 21, 2017 Well yeah, lots of great military shooters and other more realistic takes on the genre. Somebody please revive STALKER and let it know I missed it dearly 2 Share this post Link to post
[McD] James Posted September 21, 2017 If every game were like Doom 2016, consumers would inevitably become fatigued with that style of game, and there would be a huge demand for realistic first person shooters to return. 6 Share this post Link to post
Neurosis Posted September 21, 2017 Say a game like, Call of Duty Black Ops II. It's a good game, mostly fun to play with friends, but it's kind of dull and not much to look at. The most exciting place is Nuketown while every other war torn city is pretty boring to look at. It's good for what it is, but I want less realistic military FPS games and more crazy stuff like Doom '16. 0 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted September 21, 2017 The only part I truly liked of any of the modern CoD games was the nazi zombies which I played in WaW, but other than that nothing about CoD has actually stuck with me. 0 Share this post Link to post
geo Posted September 21, 2017 If every game was like Doom 4 there would be complaints that Doom 4 was so much like everything else. Not to mention reviewers complaining about the campaign being too short when everything else is around the same size. How there needs to be a shooter where you guard an area rather than run all over the place. 0 Share this post Link to post
Rosh Fragger Posted September 21, 2017 BFG9000 in Far Cry 5, anyday baby!! 0 Share this post Link to post
qdash Posted September 21, 2017 Military shooters sucks a horse dick. I never missed them. 0 Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted September 21, 2017 I play shooters that are crazy and fantastical, as opposed to realistic, which is why I avoid the COD type stuff. If all shooters were like Doom '16 then we'd be seeing reboots of games like Blood, Blake Stone or a Duke game that was more cohesive. And that sounds pretty good to me. 1 Share this post Link to post
CARRiON Posted September 21, 2017 I'd prefer a good mixture of FPS. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to run n gun. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to take it slow and plan ahead. 1 Share this post Link to post
MTF Sergeant Posted September 21, 2017 At least I could do a Glory Kill on Vladimir Makarov. 0 Share this post Link to post
Pegg Posted September 21, 2017 (edited) I'll miss games like bioshock and brothers in arms (Not the stupid one with 4 heroes shit, stupid devs), Please no. 1 Share this post Link to post
StoneMason Posted September 21, 2017 I'd miss RPG/Adventure FPSs, thats for sure. 1 Share this post Link to post
TootsyBowl Posted September 21, 2017 Variety is the spice of life. In other words, no, even though I've never played one. 0 Share this post Link to post
Deleted_Account Posted September 22, 2017 I still to this day have not played any COD games. 1 Share this post Link to post

As Doomers, we like a fast pace, point-blank confrontation, otherworldly layouts, exploration, strong art direction and a variety of bizarre enemies and weapons. COD offers absolutely none of that. 2 Share this post Link to post
wheresthebeef Posted September 24, 2017 Advanced Warfare was good, it gave you an exosuit that let you double jump pretty high and could slide side to side which was fun. You still fought with mostly hitscan weapons and enemies though :/ Modern military shooters are already dead, games are either set in the future or going back to the past. Give it about 4 years and then we'll have modern shooters yet again. 0 Share this post Link to post
Endless Posted September 24, 2017 Its okey I guess, I probably would miss only Counter-Strike, after that, neeh, all my fav FPS are more futuristic (UT saga) unique (FEAR) or just lots of fun and killing (Doom). 0 Share this post Link to post
Deleted_Account Posted September 24, 2017 When all my friends were obsessing over Counter-Strike, I was collecting keycards and strafing fireballs. I only ever played CS once and just could not get into it at all. 0 Share this post Link to post

Come on, they're not that bad. I wouldn't even classify CoD as a military shooter since they're way too arcade-y for that. I think CoD is similar to Counter-Strike in the sense that they both portray a sort of "action movie realism", instead of actual realism like say ARMA. Personally, I enjoyed the series up until Modern Warfare 2. The singleplayer campaigns get progressively more James Bond like with every game, in the sense that they include more and more ridiculous action setpieces like jumping a canyon on a snowbike. It's still fun to play through with your brain turned off. I also think that Infinity Ward used to make the best multiplayer maps. Even in Modern Warfare 2, the maps are almost all memorable and have a good layout with very few dead ends. I remember playing Terminal, Highrise, Rust... Oh man, Rust. As soon as Treyarch got their hands on the series, it all went downhill for me... 2 Share this post Link to post

DoomUK Posted September 25, 2017 People still love to hate Call of Duty, huh? 1 Share this post Link to post

I wouldn't say this is an elitist thing, about COD. What I should say is that if you prefer a Doom-like experience, COD can be underwhelming, but obviously some Doomers like realistic military shooters. So pardon my wording. 55 minutes ago, DoomUK said: People still love to hate Call of Duty, huh? I don't hate it, I just find it boring. I can see why it's so beloved. 0 Share this post Link to post
MrGlide Posted September 25, 2017 I really don't see Counterstrike as the skilled game many like to make it out to be. 1 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted September 25, 2017 The only Call of Duty I actually liked was Finest Hour. 0 Share this post Link to post
