Do the PSN and XBLA versions count? I do know their size and MD5 hash are different but am not aware of any difference besides MAP33.

Doom 64 EX produces a stand-alone wad from the Doom 64 rom.

 

(On an related note, I'm sure the ship has already sailed on this, but I still wish it would make it onto GOG or Steam at some point so I could toss some money at it.)

Yes, it can be played by any source port as far as i know. Tested with chocolate doom and zdoom only though. The only issue is the secret end switch in MAP 02 that leads to MAP 33, some ports do not support it (in chocolate doom, for exemple, it just throws you back at MAP 01). The same issue applies to the BFG Edition wads.

SLaVE.wad is recognised as an IWAD by 3DGE, so I'm told.

Do official pwads have any place on the list? I was thinking nerve.wad and the master levels, they're not iwads but they are licensed products at least. Then again a lot of those iwads are unlicensed fan games, so maybe not.

 

I guess the Doom64 rom doesn't count strictly due to file format?

How about IWAD not even supposed to be used with the Doom engine? The new Dash Dimension uses an IWAD for its game resources.

I was not aware that PSX Doom TC was an iwad.

If i'm allowed to be smart for a second: Chex Quest is not technically an IWAD actually -- it has the pwad ID... but nobody really ever cared (nor it made a difference), so yeah.

Hexen Beyond Heretic and Hexen Registered are the same thing afaik.

Same for Strife Quest for the sigil and Strife Registered.

Oh my god, same for Hacx Twitch n Kill and just Hacx.

 

And, um, "Doom 2 shareware" ? Who lied to you like this?

Strife Voices? No, that's a PWAD.

There's a shareware version of Strife along with the teaser version? Pretty sure they're the same thing.

Lol at the Doom 2 shareware. That'd be something.

Doom 64 EX is not an IWAD, it's software for running DOOM64.WAD.

I wonder what a hypothetical Doom2 Shareware would have been like. Map08 would have made a good final map for a shareware episode!

Was DOOM II Shareware ever planned?  The Master Levels box says that the "Full version of DOOM II" (emphasis mine) is required to operate.  Or was this simply a way to distinguish between the Master Levels and the base game?

People would start saying the first 8 maps are the best in Doom 2.

In a way, Doom 64 Retribution is also an IWAD. At least, it doesn't need another WAD to function/can run on its own.
