Voros Posted October 6, 2017 For example, I think the Wolverine from X-Men would pretty make a pretty good Doomguy. He's got the attitude, the endurance, the skills, the guts to rip and tear his enemies apart. What other characters from other franchises can you think of, that remind you of Doomguy? 0 Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted October 6, 2017 Just about any protagonist (and some antagonists) in an 80s action movie (i.e. Rambo, John McClaine, John Matrix from Commando, etc.). 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted October 6, 2017 The attitude? What attitude? The only bit of attitude we get from Doomguy is that he smiles when he picks up a new weapon; and admittedly that's only in the context of a survival scenario against a demon invasion. We also know that he doesn't care much about all said weapons since he tends to just dump them somewhere between episodes, keeping only his peashooter and knuckle dusters. For the rest he's a silent video game protagonist, so he could as well be Gordon Freeman or Link or Chell. 2 Share this post Link to post
Cruduxy Pegg Posted October 6, 2017 Duke has way more character than Doom guy. Doomguy has less character than a wall with a picture on it. 5 Share this post Link to post
Marlamir Posted October 6, 2017 always something telling me that this two guys are somehow connected :/ 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) Things we know about Doomguy based on the official story. All canon: He clearly has a sense of morality - He chose to assault his CO rather than following the order to fire upon civilians. He seems to be an animal lover given that he had a pet rabbit. He was furious to find Daisy dead so he's obviously not above normal human emotions/attachment. It's inferred that he at least derives some joy from killing evil beings ("They have no pity, no mercy, take no quarter, and crave none. They're the perfect enemy, in a way." Couple that quote with his a-bit-too-happy smile when he finds a new gun and it seems a reasonable conclusion.) Despite finding enjoyment in combat and killing, he still values humanity. He ultimately kills for the good of the remaining survivors. He's pretty definitively not the psychopath depicted by the Doom Comic/Brutal Doomguy ("Rebuilding Earth ought to be a lot more fan than ruining it was.") In terms of more banal stuff, we know that he likes mature films, drives a pickup truck and apparently likes the beach as that's where he took his (extremely brief) leave. There might be more little nuggets hidden away in the story but (bizarrely) nowhere on the entire internet seems to have a comprehensive transcript of the complete classic Doom story as told by all the text screens in Doom1, Doom2, Final Doom and Doom64 and their accompanying manuals. I can't believe that is the case and will be rectifying that this weekend! EDIT: As far as naming a character who's like him, I'm not really sure. He resembles plenty of stereotypical 90's tough guys like Arnie and whatnot. He's a fairly generic buff white guy, solely based on his looks. I'm glad we're at least given some detail about him - I know he's meant to be a blank slate for the player to fill in, but it would be weird if he was literally just a number with no motivations or details whatsoever. I'm glad we're given a few bits and pieces to humanize him ever so slightly. Edited October 6, 2017 by Doomkid 19 Share this post Link to post

valkiriforce Posted October 6, 2017 Bill Rizer from the Contra franchise. If I could, I'd make a decent player skin of him for Doom. Have yet to figure out how to go about it, though. 0 Share this post Link to post
DaDac Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) There's a problem here, Doomguy has many traits that are also many other character's traits but the guys that come to mind when I think of beings like Doomguy are: Dormammu, Hank Pym and Master Chief. Dormammu and Hank Pym are gonna need a lot of nitpicking to find the similarities between them and Doomguy but the similarities are there. 0 Share this post Link to post
reflex17 Posted October 6, 2017 Put a space marine helmet on Chrono, and replace his rainbow shell katana with a SSG Regular Shotgun = Princess Nadia (Marle) Chaingun = Lucca Rocket Launcher = Robo Plasma Gun = Magus BFG = Glenn (Frog) lol Fist (weapon #1) is the window Chrono opens in the morning, because Tyson runs are pure, Cat is the Berserk pack and Chrono's mom = Chainsaw <3 0 Share this post Link to post

XD XD srry i can't help myself, hope you get the point... oh it's fine to have innuendo, I mean if i'm to believe Chrono Trigger's portrayal of hereditary lines, people just make descended copies of themselves by splitting like single celled organisms right? and then a goblin comes and makes one disappear, which causes Marty McFly to have a long drawn out discussion with Doc Brown on how such a thing should not actually be possible. I meant it in the way that she's essentially the first other major character that you run into, and while always good, Marle loses some viability end-game unless properly used in tandem with other characters for Triple Techs, max dps uber 1337 Lavos RIP lol Edited October 6, 2017 by reflex17 : spelling correction 0 Share this post Link to post
Marlamir Posted October 6, 2017 isn't that one of the reason why we love these games? ;) 0 Share this post Link to post
Zanieon Posted October 6, 2017 I think everyone from Quake 3/Quake Champions is eligible for that since eh... the few lore Quake 3 has and the part which Quake Champions still don't explains too much, everyone is fighting in that arenas for a very long time and they will keep doing it for all eternity so. 0 Share this post Link to post
MrGlide Posted October 6, 2017 No at kratos. I think Kratos and Doomguy's moral compass are quite different. Also Kratos talks to much compaired to Doomguy. 1 Share this post Link to post
