MrCoinOp Posted October 10, 2017 Hi all! I've been working on my first Doom 2 Map for about a month now. I'd love for the Doom Community to download and give it a go! The design may not be what you're used to since it's a bit of a mash of ideas. Love to hear your feedback. -------------------------- Doom2.wad required. Source ports tested: GZDoom 3.2.0 - All OK zdoom 2.8.1 - ALL OK prboom 2.5.0 - Framerate issues doomsday2.0.3 - Framerate issues Best used with software rendering due to old school lighting. Singleplayer only No Difficulty settings Content: 1. MAP01 - "DROXX" Known bugs: Shading is darker in some areas (such as on walls) in game compared to being viewed in Doom Builder, which shows the shading perfectly. Not sure what is causing this.-------------------------- Download linkshttps://www.mediafire.com/file/xrsdjm44y3lrajl/droxx.zip Mirrorhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/a2yupjvxo59i1d9/droxx.zip?dl=0 More Screenshots Spoiler 7 Share this post Link to post
Misty Posted October 10, 2017 I didn't notice framerate droppings in prboom+ 2.5.1.4 version. I guess, you should jump in that version and see for yourself. I'll record demo today if I find time for it ;) 0 Share this post Link to post

Player177 Posted October 10, 2017 I just played. Not bad but there are some obvious problems and mistakes: - 1 secret sector at the starting area placed wrong and can't be triggered - 1 caco that sits in the lava pit can't get out - some monsters placed to close to each other; they get stuck Every demo was recorded in prboom 2.5.1.5 -cl9 Pretty nice trap for a curious players : droxx trp.zip Simple run : droxx tst .zip Good luck, do more! 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted October 10, 2017 Here's a demo of AutoDoom (Doom played by computer). Playable with vanilla Doom 2 or compatible ports. I really like how the wad presents itself. I wish the bot didn't get killed by the mancubus… droxx.lmp.zip 0 Share this post Link to post

Suitepee Posted October 11, 2017 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/181504446 (second map played, about an hour into the video) Some decent stuff here overall. Was the most fun out of the 4 wads I played this evening. 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted October 11, 2017 After playing the map myself, I can say it's awesome. There are some bugs as mentioned, which need to be fixed, but otherwise I really liked the way you used monsters and textures, combined with the spooky TNT Evilution music. 0 Share this post Link to post
NoisyVelvet Posted October 11, 2017 I ran into the inescapable pit too in my first run. was gonna post it but before posting I watched someone else's demo above: they seem to have beaten me to the punch. When I find a way to softlock a map, I always crack a wide grin as if it's a great accomplishment and done something clever :) I consider it a bigger victory than actually beating the map (which I didn't do yet, i'll get back to it.) --- PS. here's my second attempt (demo lmp) done in prboom-plus Quite good for a first map. Seems very influenced by TNT: Evilution. A bit lengthy for me personally. Also, some people might complain about some of the detail making movement hard: like accidentally stepping up into a wall instead of remaining on the floor, or partially losing control when running over the chunky dirt in the outdoor courtyard; it's not a real big deal though because the fights were somewhat tame anyways. Also, most importantly, keep in mind that one man's peeve is another man's fetish. Don't let anyone get in the way of your Doom fetish. Mine is platforming. Others' is grindy slaughtermaps, etc. Have fun. 0 Share this post Link to post

It is indeed! I DID map for Duke Nukem 3D on the build engine about 16 years ago. Doom builder and the build engine have the same mapping rules with sectors, etc so I picked up doom builder in about an hour. Lots of little annoyances with the map. Like health too close to walls and too much sniping from hitscanners, etc. 0 Share this post Link to post

The map is large, even for my taste and I didn't content lock areas, I just kept adding shit lol. 1 Share this post Link to post
