ID doesn't exactly have a good record when it comes to game names that actually make sense.

Having said that, the 'storyline' to Q3A would have us believe that the Doom and Quake games all take place within the same universe - just at different points in time.

Think of "it`s green and it`s pissed"... title of games is not the best thing ID can do !
But whats the Problem, i love DooM so a Remake would be great, but you could see new enemies, so it won`t be a 100% remake.

Two things I think they could've called Doom 3:

1) Either go by what they originally planned to call the first Doom game, "Doom: Evil Unleashed" or

2) call it "Doom: Rise of Evil"

No it isn't. Doom III: The Legacy was the title of the VIDEO that FountainHead Entertainment made for E3. The game itself is just called "Doom III", plain and simple.

Yeah, but he was talking about the major E3 poster that we saw a pic of, where it said "The Legacy of Evil lives on" - that was when the new logo was first revealed.
But no, being a retelling of Doom 1 that wouldn't make sense either to give it that title because the fact that "the Legacy of evil lives on" indicates that it has been seemingly crushed before, yet now it has arisen again - that would be a superb undertitle for a 'real' Doom 3 - a real sequel to Doom 1 and 2.

Short names which fit in as an EXE name and can be easily recalled (they are trademarks after all) are preferred. A numerical sequence is the easiest way to go, then adding a subtitle makes it more attractive and clarifies its theme or gives a lightning description.

Eh? DOOM 3 will run on Windows and Linux (at least), and both allow file names like "DOOM 3: Special Ultra Revisited Edition Yay: Return of the Demon". The days of DOS are over ;)

This "sequel" you were hoping for would never exist, since this game will be a "retelling" of Doom 1 based on its original story, (Note to certain ppl: this ain't a "remake", is not necessary to follow to put everything you used to have in Doom 1 in Doom 3) it does not hold its own continual storyline to the previous series. But, overall, Doom series is definitely the most successful one, following by Wolfenstein series, imo. Its theme has never been shifted, the whole geneartion always remains and centers of VIOLENT and FRIGHTENING factors, unlike Quake series. This game will be themed the exact same atmosphere that original Doom had. Therefore, it is completely sensible this game is titled as "Doom"

999cop, "remake" doesn't imply total fidelity to the original, movie remakes often include many changes. A remake in this case made more sense than a sequel, as tech has changed so much that a sequel would have related very different games (with different appearances) and would have made the game much less consistent and convincing, otherwise the story would have been like in Q3 or the heretic/hexen series, that joins games through temporal eras... kind of silly way to try to make a metastory out of each game's story, and overused.
