What makes Doom (2016) 78.5g?

Recommended Posts

Good grief, I have to get an extra hard drive just to play Doom '16?

I've naturally come to assume that any Bethesda title will take up more space than usual. Getting the 2016 Doom, I knew what I was getting myself in for.

I think large game sizes like this (that will only get bigger) are going to be the straw that broke the camel's back. You can always buy more space, space is never the issue for me. My problem is I don't have a fast enough download speed to make modern gaming viable. Internet speeds aren't like storage space, I can't just "get" a faster speed unless I want to move. At a ~700KB/s speed, I'm looking at practically a full 24 hours to download a game this big. No thanks. Old games are better anyway and whaddya know they are also tiny in file size.

Seems like procedural generation might work against you if you want very specific content in your game. It seems to work better in large scale environments where the different elements are broadly described, such as a forest.
