Metal Gear Solid 5

Recommended Posts

I know the game has been out for awhile and someone else might of made a thread about it but I decided to make one.

I absolutely love this game. It feels like a big collectothon. I love the gameplay mechanics they added. Metal Gear feels so much better in an open world. I feel like the story is really lacking though. But hey as long as the gameplay is good.

I have 210 hours in the game and I am 75% complete. I really feel like I got my moneys worth.

But this is all my opinion. What do you guys think? Its been out awhile have you 100% it yet? I am just curious what you guys think.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is one of my favorite sp stealth games with Dishonored and Theif,

but it gets really repetitive and easy really quickly, but it is still a fun game.

My question for other people is, how does it feel to know that this will be the last good MGS game ever? I'v been a fan since the begining, so it makes me kinda sad.

Why is that? There could be a hundred more MGS games, all of them excellent.

With Kojima gone I've high doubts that the series will continue to be good, or anything true of what it used to be. It's all fan fiction from here on out.

@MrGlide Rather it be fan fiction than pachinko zombies. Considering how much like fan fiction Guns of the Patriots felt at times with all the "remember this???" moments, it probably couldn't get much worse barring Goku appearing.

Neither will go well. Series is dead to me with 5 being the end. Halo is the same way for me, it's an entirely different game for me now, and it will never be the same. If the new Metal Gear games are good (which I highly doubt), than I will see it as a new series, but none the less, it will never be the same.

I have 600+ Hours on my steam for this game. my wife and played it EXTENSIVELY. Repeating op over and over. It was the first MGS game I played since PS1...so it was a new game for entirely. it did for me what splinter cell did back in the day up until conviction which I just could not get into. Add to that the open world and the minor goofy camo boxes and wormhole fultons and you have your self a fantastic game. That fight with the skulls in that hangar area was hard as hell and super fun. My wife and I beat Sahelanthropus the "second time" and thought the game was over. In fact we KEPT thinking it was over after every episode because of the credits and such...was a bit confusing at times. I was amazed at how much I loved this game given my dislike of modern Japanese art styles like anime and such. MGSV was one of 6 games that I have ever paid the full $60 USD for.

All good things must come to an end. We got enough good MGS games that it doesn't bother me much. MGS 3 still amazes me to this day.

After Kojima's departure, no subsequent Metal Gear games are even worth considering as being a legitimate part of the series. As far as I'm concerned, the Metal Gear series is over, and no amount of post-mortem milking will change that.

Love MGSV, a masterpiece. Was my #1 favorite series for a good 10+ years, got into it in January 2005 with Twin Snakes and Snake Eater! And I love MGS2, MGS4, and Peace Walker too. (I know fans tend to not be into Ryuhei Kitamura's over-the-top direction of Twin Snakes cutscenes, I dig it though. He did the movies Godzilla Final Wars, Azumi, and Versus.)

My take on MGS being over, well, of course it is. That said, Death Stranding may end up having a lot in common with MGSV, and it's Hideo's next game, so in some ways it may be like it's continuing unimpeded. Great stories do have an ending, and MGS's plot has had several endings. We've seen Solid Snake's journey, we got the great bonus of Big Boss's journey, and even a bit more than we expected there too.

In general, to go on a side tangent, I feel people think too much in licenses/franchises. A friend of mine has some creative ideas for a new Resident Evil game. Other than liking Leon and Claire etc, why would you even need the Resident Evil license? What's unique about it? I love it too, but you could do anything an RE game could conceivably do at any company, without the license.

If Hideo wants to make a game in the stealth tactical espionage action genre some day, he could easily do it without the MGS license. Plus, that story has been well told, it wouldn't need to be further mined in my opinion.

And in another angle, if any developer wants to make a stealth game inspired by MGS, they can go for it too. The thing about one actually called MGS by Konami, that's lame since I care about the MGS story as written by Hideo, and it would be impossible for them to make something that I wouldn't find annoying. Plus that I find it lame that they'd want to cash in on this guy's creation, it'd be like if somebody just made Godfather part 4, randomly, with no basis or involvement from Coppola or Mario Puzo. Luckily, the odds seem low that they'll even make an MGS game close to good enough to tempt me as a fan.

To the OP, while a bit more linear and different, if you haven't played the older ones do yourself a favor and give those a try! Though sounds like you have played some. Glad you dug MGSV.

As someone who has avoided consoles, Phantom Pain was my only exposure to the series. It turned out to be one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've had. I enjoyed the "war porn", that is the way the soldier and his equipment is celebrated to the point of silliness, like Rambo or Commando and those campy films. The rendering engine is also fantastic, it uses a lot of "tricks" to get a scene to look very good on crappy hardware, or look stunning on great hardware.

Regarding the difficulty of the game, it's very much set by you on a per-mission basis. Almost none of the equipment/tools in the game are necessary to complete a mission, they just make it easier. Some of the most fun is to be had on the "Subsistence" missions where you start essentially naked.

I don't care so much about the Kojima/Konami drama, but it is a shame that they discontinued support (like maintenance / bug fixing) and shut down that LA studio that was working on multiplayer. So as much as I love the game, I wouldn't touch a Konami product ever in the future.

It's gotten to the point where I personally see no reason to. What key talent do they have left? their last castlevania game was god awful, I'v high doubts mgs will continue to be good, and Silent hill has been dead for how long? For me personally as a "hardcore" Game enthusiast, Konami has nothing left to offer me.

WARNING..SPOILERS FOR MGS5 (i wasnt sure how to do the spoiler tag)

I have played all but mgs4, peace walker, and portable ops. 2 has to be my favorite.

I have mixed feelings about 2. I absolutely love the gameplay but i think it makes the overall plot of the series way too confusing. Hideo himself said he wishes he didnt make the plot so difficult to understand.

I really didnt mind Raiden. It played just like the Tanker but with a different character. He has a few cringe worthy lines but I can look past it.

I feel like the series should of just stopped after 4. We had a perfect reason why Big Boss became "evil" and it tied up the series beauitifully.

I think Venom Snake is my favorite Snake. I kind of feel bad for the guy. He is just as skilled as Big Boss but he just gets manupulated and used by the real Big Boss.

My dream is for Konami to Green Light remakes of both of the MSX games. Imagine how epic the final boss battles would be at the end of both games. It would look absolutely amazing if they did it with the Fox engine. They wouldnt really need Hideo to pull it off if they just based it on the shit he has already written. Hideo is the mastermind behind the series but he still had a team of writers that understood the series and could probably make it happen. I am torn between having a remake that followed the original to a T, and a remake that could spice things up a bit (just think if they tried to faithfully make a 3D model of the first Metal Gear...it would look so outdated compaored to rex or ray and we got a kickass looking Metal Gear in MGS5).

But that is just a few of my opinions on the  series.

By far the best gameplay in the series and, despite being crossgen, the first game I felt was truly next gen and took things to a new level.

That said, the story blew ass, and I don't know how much of it is Konami's fault because it seems Kojima wanted to do a lot more than he was allowed to.

"A nerd?"

"A node, Raiden."

I will never forget or forgive that.
