Sounds totally possible to me. Just put Raspbian on there, install a linux version of one of the multiplayer doom ports, and it should work.

There should be lots of DIY guides for making a portable console out of the pi. Getting past that, I guess the main challenge would be making the server browser and getting into games a smooth experience. That would all depend on what the source ports already have in place.

Ok but the pi uses a arm processor or somthing like that so downloading say zandronum as thats the only mp source i know has linux would not work with the cpu architectur.

Or am i wrong??

The only other thing i can think of is figure out if i can just use zdoom and use the console and type connect 192.xxxxx etc to connect to a server providing i already have a wad installed in the right directory this would be an acceptable out come or even over lan would be good i did find after this a way to compile zandronum 3.0 on the pi after posting but half the stuff i go to sudo apt-get the links are no longer working or am i doing somthing wrong?

As for turning it in to a handheld side of things that will come after i got mp doom running first

Yes, I hadn't considered the pi runs on ARM when I posted. Apparently Odamex will compile on the pi, according to the wiki. For Zandronum, I don't know the method you're talking about, but it seems like you would have to clone the source from a git repository or something similar and compile it from there. Not use sudo apt-get.

If you use any regular port and just try to ip connect I have no idea what would happen, but I would put money on it being fine.
