When I worked at the post office I made $3000 a month but there's no way I'd have the time to keep up with something like this lol

I believe Doomworld uses a self-hosted license, not one of the plans where you don't buy just the forum software license, but also the hosting. Which is why the plans you see here always mention stuff like storage size, amount of users, or wether you have SSL access. Self-hosted is still expensive, but it's $25 (or $35 if the newfangled file interface is Invision's) every six months for renewal; not $500 per month. It's much more reasonable.

A sensible forum owner will use self-hosting and not a cloud system. Just don't null it.
