Boom issues (monster line of sight, mostly)

Question

I've been building a very large and complex boom format map, but until recently I was testing it in ZDoom. Since encountering framerate issues I've finally switched to PR/GLBoom, but I've noticed many monsters placed high above ground now have no inclination to attack - e.g. there are spidermasterminds in cages which simply rotate on the spot rather than attacking the player. Objects in general seem to need more space or else they get stuck in walls , but that is at least fixable, whereas the line of sight issue w/r/t masterminds totally breaks the map, and tinkering with Boom's AI settings makes no difference.

Also, the map encounters large rendering errors in PRBoom but not GLBoom - I have tried different nodebuilders to no avail. I can send the map to anyone via PM if you'd like to take a look - I don't want to make it public yet.
