Doom+ (the limit removing one) not for dos?

I wanted to see how freedoom levels ran on 1994-era systems and was surprised that they're not vanilla compatible.  Wasn't there some sort of hack called doom+ that would remove the limits while otherwise staying the same as dos doom 1.9?
