About the older VSDMC: there are over 140 wads which are presented in 9 streams totaling well over 30 hours.

 

Has any brave soul started a project to get a more easily digesting presentation? Something like one screenshot and a single line per wad, just to get a quick list of which maps are good and worth playing?

I hope he got the fixed version of my map that I sent to the email he gave on his twitch info :/ It would be kind of cringy if he got to the end of my map only to not have the wall to the exit lower and the rev swarm not spawn in because I was stupid and accidentally forgot to add a speed value to the floor lower action and combined the monster closet walls with the exit wall...

Can't wait to see y'all WADs. Loved the contest last year and watched it from start to end (not live though), despite some of the problems along the way. At least he noticed and addressed them before this one started. Hope the second iteration will be even more fun.

It took like 8 streams to finish the last one with only half the wads and this is in-spite of making 4-6 hour long videos. I think next year if there was to be another contest he will probably impose even stricter rules. Let's say that next year there are even more wads, like say 500. Then he is looking at a 100+hours of work if the current rules in regards to length stay the same...

Someone should race him!!!

 

Actually with reviewing Doom .wads, I thought about giving each level 5 minutes. Each level in a .wad and even then it becomes a daunting task.

Im pissed beyond belief that the contest it's live at a moment were my internet it's so shitty i can't even download winrar... will have to watch it when he uploads it on youtube :(

Just whispered a mod named Anthropophagus89 about if my map was disqualified or not, and he said this:

So they're not even done checking the wads yet. What a time to be alive.

SO. Opinions regarding the played maps folks?

That map called The Crypt, I think it's the best of the lot for the stream....the rest.......good points saved for some wads and others can go to the trash can.

I've played a lot of WADs in my time, dunno, maybe I'm just used to more. Naturally, I wouldn't be able to make one of these charts from an objective view, so.. eh, I'll stop before I get ahead of myself. Good stream today!

Well most have been average at best, you can tell a lot of them came from some folks taking their firsts cracks at doom maps, or trying GZdoom features for the first time, the crypt map was quite good, it reminded me of cyberdreams, i also liked the pentafortress map too, another unusual take but it could have benefited from a bit more polish.  Couldn't stand the memefest map however, even joel admited it wasn't good and that it was just made for cheap laughs, if anything this means that better maps might come on the next streams since i believe that no map from here was played.

Another interesting thing is that not all wads haven't been approved yet, and that there were many rejected maps, i asked a mod and he confirmed that my map was approved, so i hope to see it soon, also im glad the contest it's planed to run every week on a more semi regular basis

I don't know if it helps, but last contest, I got an e-mail from one of the mods inquiring about my submission before they could qualify it. Your maps have probably gotten through if you've not received an e-mail.

Well, unless your map was straight terry or has porn stuff i don't think it's gonna get rejected, so i wouldn't worry too much about it

I've submitted mine, waiting 'till Joel plays it, hopefully, it didn't get disqualified because I've used some "stolen" assets, like Built-in "Smoothdoom" or an NPC from an old wad, and the Realm667 stuff but I don't think that counts as stealing, about the submissions so far I liked the first one, simple but good, the second one had a nice atmosphere, I loved the third one, it carried the simple idea that you are stripped down and you gotta just run from shit, I used that idea before but didn't realease anything yet, the fourth one sure as hell reminded me of Quake II, the fifth one was kinda memey but it was good, kinda liked it, the sixth one was kinda wacky, I've actually had an idea like that with a "City" I called it "VineCity" or something like that but the wad got deleted, the seventh one was probably my favorite from that stream, it carried a simple idea inspired from simple horror games which i love, the other two we're average doom wads, still liked them. Great start so far, hope it gets better.

Don't get your hopes up about your wad being streamed any time soon. There is so much content he has to stream it could be weeks or even months before he gets to yours. I also predict that he will try to speed things up with rampant cheating/no clipping/god moding like last time but even more this time because of there being so many wads. I actually cringed a bit last year when there was this one super impressive level that obviously took a huge amount of effort to make but then he just no clipped his way past like 70% of it anyway.

I've made it so that he can't cheese through it, also he mentioned that he will stream the contest on Mondays or Tuesdays, so yeah, my wad name is THCJ just to make it clear.

I'm watching the first session from the second contest. he really needs to play on the easiest difficulty to get through 300 maps in a timely fashion. As much as I would say he should limit his gameplay to 10 minutes on each map unless he likes them enough to continue, contestants want their maps played. Even 10 minutes per map is 50 hours. At 3 hours a pop that's 17 Mondays.

lol last contest there were lots of maps that lasted for 30-60 min. Honestly I think Joel took a bigger bite than he can chew. Again. There is going to be rampant nocliping and god moding in this contest. Entire maps will be reduced into glorified no clip and god mode runs, and people will call him out on it.

 

Honestly, as unpopular as this may sound I think he should charge an entry fee. Nothing major, just something like 10 bucks. Then afterward the money could be given to the top 5 wads as a reward. It would drive away most of the people who don't really care that much and only uploaded a map because they could. This would lower the number of wads down to a manageable level. As it stands currently, it's very possible it could take him many months to get through all of this unless he cheats so bad that it basically makes the contest pointless. Why even care about making your map good if he just god modes and no clips his way through most of it?
