Rise and fall of 3dfx (article)

Recommended Posts

I still remember getting our Voodoo2 card and being blown away. Especially going back to older games that supported it like Quake.

"WOW! IT MADE THE PIXELS ALL SMOOTH! THIS IS SO GREAT!"

Now I think it looks like vomit, just give me my crisp pixels back... It did however make some games look miles better, Tomb Raider was a big one. Also, those old GPU boxes are so deliciously 90's.

Voodoo3 was my first video card, good times. Got my first good gaming PC in 1999, could only play point and click adventure games and Doom before that pretty much. My second card was a 3D Blaster Annihilator Geforce.

On Quake and whatnot, Quake 2 I found was fun with 3D acceleration. I love the pixels look for Doom, Duke 3D etc, but for those 3D games around that time the textures (especially on enemy models) all looked fine blurred, seemed to fit for me.
