Description:	This patch will downgrade any legal and unmodified copy of DOOM II V1.7a to DOOM II V1.7. There are various DOOM2 upgrade patches from iD Software and a downgrade patch by FunDuke from V1.9 to V1.666; however, there is as yet no way to get plain V1.7 using these; this patch fixes that problem. PLEASE REFER TO THE "INSTRUCTIONS" SECTION AT THE END OF THIS TEXT FILE, **BEFORE** PROCEEDING!

* Instructions *

YOU USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLAY NICE AND ALWAYS WORK ON A COPY
OF DOOM2 V1.7A, NEVER ON YOUR ORIGINAL. THAT WAY, IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG,
YOU DON'T LOSE YOUR ORIGINAL, IRREPLACABLE GAME. YOU HAVE BEEN DULY WARNED!

To actually do the patching:

1) Make a fresh install of DOOM II V1.7A. If your version is different, you
   can upgrade to V1.9 via the official iD Software upgrade patches, if you
   don't already have it, then use FunDuke's patch to downgrade to V1.666,
   then use more of the official iD Software upgrade patches to upgrade
   V1.666 to V1.7A. Or you may even have an original V1.7A CD, lucky you!

2) Because this has been cobbled together with freeware tools, don't expect
   it to have advanced recovery logic, tallies of files missing, etc. It
   will stop at the first thing it finds wrong! If you want only to patch
   DOOM2.EXE and DOOM2.WAD and ignore all other files, use D217A17N.BAT
   instead of D217A17.BAT. Also note that if you want a solution for Linux,
   or even plain old DOS, gimme loads of money to buy RTPatch or whatever :)

3) Extract this archive into the new DOOM II V1.7A directory.

4) Start the D217A17.BAT batch file. If you want only to patch DOOM2.EXE and
   DOOM2.WAD and ignore all other files, use D217A17N.BAT instead. The
   CMD.EXE interpreter of Windows 2000 or greater is required; it MAY work
   on 9X/NT4, but I have no way to test it.

5) Follow the instructions the batch file gives you.

6) That's it! If anything went wrong, please email me and tell me what!
