| The legendary BOOM. The one that, more or less, started it all. I use it for playing around with DeHackEd and nice old wads. Real fun. When I need more advanced tools, I play around with Zandronum. But this.. this is my baby. | x |

| The first port to become "mainstream". I disagree a bit with the previous comment: It does change things to a point, and, while it has its advantages, and has a flawed sound library compared to the original executable. Thus I prefer to use the original (or its Doom+ hack) for vanilla sets. Boom is very useful to test "Boom compatible" WADs, of course. If you don't want to bother with DOSBox, you can also try the Windows version (PrBoom 2.02, also found in this boom directory.) | x |

| If you have MS-DOS, Windows x.x, 9x, or (maybe) ME. You should get this, this is the original game... Almost! Except with fixes, and a few cool new things! This is good for historians like me who like
old DOOM items instead of those fancy new ones like ZDOOM, and crap. If you like playing DOOM2.exe, then do yourself a favor, and get this! This barely changes the classic features of DOOM2.exe. | x |

| There is no reason this shouldn't be five stars. | x |

| A stepping stone in the source ports that are here because of the source released and Boom. | x |

| The importance of Boom in the overall history of Doom can hardly be overstated. The fact this this release was under the GPL was also of immense significance. BTW, note that there is a Windows version too. | x |
