this wad is about as fun as getting kicked in the teeth. the map design is for the most part horrible, featuring lots of cramped areas and completely uninteresting designs. and the whole "1 monster per map" gimmick may have sounded fun as a concept, but if the execution is of any indication, something that sounds fun does not always result in a fun wad. overall this ill-conceived garbage is one of the worst I've seen, and should be the object of much ridicule.x
Combinebobnt
The concept isn't bad on its own and is enjoyable, but I find that alot of the bad maps are just wayy too long for simple monsters like demons and imps (boringgg......). Maybe next time stick to the fun monsters onlyx

Wish this 1 monster idea which eliminate the "Infighting" and gives a novel experince to me, dont die...plz make its sequel....Among my all time fav wadsx

ok. I like Ryathaen's maps most.x

Good! Beautiful maps and hard gameplay. 4/5.x
JudgeDeadd
A good, memorable mapset, where most of the maps manage to have a lot of personality (always a good thing in my book) and remain fun and playable despite the limited monster loadout. Probably the only truly bad map is MAP19 (Cacophony) which is the very definition of "overstaying your welcome". Admittedly, though, the gimmick makes for 75% of the maps' memorability. x

I love the textures and the maps. This is an excellent map pack.x

That final boss was really creative. The map detailing's pretty nice, too.x

Congratulations, you've just proven why ID created a lot of different monsters. I'm playing DooM now for 20 years, and this is the best demonstration I've even seen by far, how bad monster placement can completely ruin gameplay of potentially great levels. IOW: you shouldn't have wasted these great maps for such an experiment, it's a real pity. 1/5 for the efford as it is now, otherwise 4.5 - 0.5 for the music = solid 4/5.x

the game can be broken on map04. by that it means I can get to a point where I got stuck in an area of the map and was unable to get out of it without using ways which the original doom games were not meant to. the only way to get out of that area was to strafe-run... and since strafe-running wasn't an intended design of the game, i had to deduct some points. Some of the musics were horrible, and i got bored sooner than expected. I didn't enjoy this. x

Its a clever idea, and the quality shows as you get further.x

Like any community project, there are good designs to be found here, unfortunately the whole one monster think turns out to be an awful gimmick in so many cases that sucks the fun right out of many levels here. Really it would be nice if the authors still around would rerelease their levels separately, except converted to the normal normal Doom gameplay we have all come to expect. x

I like the idea of that wad, really good. 5/5 -Tomikleszx

Fighting hundreds of the same monster is a chore. Most levels are boring. x
Omega Tyrant
This was a mixed bag. The concept was interesting, and some of the maps had amazing atmosphere. Most of the second half maps went on way too long though (Zumma and Cacophony were really bad in this regard), with too much switch hunts and backtracking. I loved the Spectre levels (which made the best use of the 1 monster gimmick by far), and also liked Knightmire, Mancublood, and The Crucified Factory. I found the rest though mostly forgettable if not too long, with the Chaingunner levels being especially badx

Lizardcommando
The levels were good, but they were completely ruined by this 1 monsters concept. 3/5x
Unholypimpin
The maps are pretty nice, however some maps are very linear and boring.x

Pretty bad.x

You thought DTWID was prime example of good mapping handicapped by concept? Well...you haven't seen anything. (4.5/5 for maps and -5/5 for this AWFUL concept!)x
Anonymous
pure crap concept, you fight army of the same monsters per map some of them are huge and make this wad very very boringx
Anonymous
This, as a set of regularly populated levels, had so much potential. Which incidentally was wasted on the rigid theme of the project. Hell, you could have preserved the general theme and made the maps more fun by changing the rule to the main monster takes up 50% or more of the monsters while at the same time allowing some other monsters to spice it up. This should be remade (or at least repurposed since the maps are architecturally sound in and of themselves).x

dumb and monotonous conceptx

Great concept, and very enjoyable to play. It's not perfect though, and is let down somewhat by some of the stupidly oversized maps (MAP17 and MAP19 made me want to murder someone for the absolutely hideous repetition and time taken -- they look great and have some very memorable designs, but at that size they are 100% wasted on a gimmick WAD no matter what). However, generally speaking it's very well-made and great fun. MAP15: Spookhouse is an excellent example. A strong 4/5 for 1Monster.x

one monster = one fucking starx

The 1st few maps are alright I suppose. After playing to map09 I couldn't bare to continue. The 3rd Imp map is where I became super bored. This wad might be fun if you only play a few maps at a time then set it aside for maybe a week or two, then pick it up where you left off. More than that just makes it extremely monotonous. 1/5x
Anonymous
The Concept seems simple a monotonous. But the maps quality makes it a very good megawad though the restriction. Map 22 with only three monsters is a masterpiece. 4/5x
Anonymous
I agree with a few of these guys here, it was a real slap to the face to have a chaingunner level and then an archvile level. (Although the archvile level was a little easy) and many maps were wasted on this. It should've been normal. Gets a 2. -Some Sovietx

A annoying was that it was almost no medkits. I was stuck on the first level even. 3/5 stars -Arthur.x

This had some good ideas that were stifled by the rule of the wad. This proves that these dumbshit themed projects keep great maps from ever being actually great. Best played with a monster randomizer, or not played at all. Map14 is obviously the best one in the set, it's got Holy Smoke as the background music after all.x
Anonymous
^I agree with these points. This map should have just been a normal megawad. 2/5x
Anonymous
The gameplay of this megawad has lots of flaws: Overly long maps, irritating map design that features way too much backtracking/walking around to find switches and keys and dull fights due to the lack of variety of enemies. There's a few maps that I liked better than the othe ones like Chamber Of Souls and Knightmare but even those maps were kinda boring which is a shame since the authors put in quite a lot of effort in making this. 0/5x

What a stupid idea. The community needs to stop wasting time with retarded ideas like this.x
Anonymous
Some good maps but most maps are too big and some are just normal maps. 2/5x

Map 5 music is horrible.x
Anonymous
Great stuff! Mancublood (#16) is my personal favourite of all. The only shame is that it's not really a megawad with 25 levels instead of 32. OK, the 1monster style must have been a bit tedious to create, but never mind! 4.6(5)/5 by me - Cell.x

Actually pretty cool given the concept. I'm gonna go with a safe 3/5 here. --Ceebx

The Map01, LostSoul's Map and Dutch Devil's ChaingunGang Map are the best Maps! - 4/5 Logan MTMx

There are a lot of nice maps in this wad. It's a shame because I think a lot of them were wasted on the 1 monster concept. Also the pain elemental map has 2 monsters so someone obviously didn't think this through properly (I would've much preferred to battle pain elementals that don't shoot anything) :) 4/5x

Good maps but the concept gets old. 4/5x

great wad challenge from level 1-25. the cyberdemon one wasnt nearly as hard as i expected, though. all in all the arch viles were the toughest. 5/5x

It works with Boom, ZDoom, and I think Skulltag but I am not sure. Good set but some maps were kinda annoying.x

lvl 1 and 2 are great but lvl 4 and 5 i cant complete. best Doom to run it under?x

The idea is not so bad. I like map 05 and 22.x

Try it with Alando Guns (original) if you think it's too tedious, a shitload of monster variants!x

the detail is awesome.the gameplay is awesome.the music in lvl 5 (infested) is my favorite!!!cranberri es-zombie yeah. all the levels get 5/5 except lvl 5 which is my favorite so id give 6/5 if that was possible.great work guyzx

Maps are too big for only one monster. 3/5x

Its good i have to say. Nice! Map 5 is nice! I like the way the very last part where there are just simply too much and overwhelming number of demons swarming to you. But the music of the map cost u 1 star. Its weird since I do know the song of that music! x
Anonymous
it was wether cool but the concept is not creative so it only get a 4/5x

The music for the Archvile level is simply epic...Iron Maiden Holy Smoke x

These maps are well designed and have good layout and details. The limit to only one monster cut the gameplay. Maps with 300 of the same monster become quite boring. 3.5/5 - Damnedx

that bull demon map was HARD >_< wasint expecting much from this was but it was really well made and interesting 5/5 x

I love this!!! I liked the Demon map, the Cacodemon map, the first imp map, the chaingunner maps and several other ones. 5/5 - Optimusx

1 Monster type for each map gave this wad zero stars. Why can't you people just make NORMAL maps anymore?x
Anonymous
Best megawad in a long timex
Anonymous
It turns boring very quick. Last map was annoying.x
Anonymous
The semi-HR style Map19 alone (Cacophony) is worth waiting to play through the rest of this megawad. I didn't like the hitscanner maps that much though (ugh, ~310 Chaingunners), but the rest of it was pretty good, had no trouble with health and ammo for the most part. The concept works pretty good in most of the maps, which is why this wad gets 4 stars and a reccommended play out of me.x

4/5 For the most part, I enjoyed it, but there were a couple of maps which just really sucked, such as map04 (What kind of idiot makes 95% of his map a series of hall ways that are 64 units wide anyway?)x
Anonymous
I likeed the short maps like 01, 03... and more. 3.5/5x

I enjoyed this wad, though some parts got repetitive. The map 'Zumma' was nearly impossible to finish. Still, I liked most of this wad and definately will enjoy playing it again. 4/5 -Motix

Not bad, as an experiment concept-wad thingymajig. I had reservations about the potential of this idea, but some of the maps are genuinely fun, and some quirky (like the spook house). Some of the mapping is noticeably on the high end of the quality spectrum, but it's probably inevitable that the gameplay will become tedious/repetitive in parts. It's an interesting footnote in wad making, as a gaming experience it's okay. ***x
Anonymous
The levels are new from scratch, great job anywayx
Anonymous
This is a concept megawad; each level has only one monster type, except for Map24, which has none. Sadly no Commander Keen level. Not great overall. It's monotonous fighting imps and demons on their own. I hate lost souls. Most levels would be better without the concept. My favourites were the two chaingun, the first archvile, and the mancubus levels. Cyber map not a patch on Cyberdreams. Surprisingly only one revenant level, but three imp maps(?).x
Anonymous
I never excepted this wad to be a success. The concept just limits the variety in gameplay too much. In that sense I got what I expected: many of the maps were pretty boring. Still, I was positively surprised by the polished looks of many of the levels. Some of them were even fun to play. As an experiment of sorts this was a partial success, but as a gaming experience it pales in comparison to many great modern and classic wads. 3 stars.x

This would have worked alot better if it weren't for fighting one single kind of enemy in the big maps. Shorter, smaller maps would work alot better. Aside from that, the maps did look pretty nice and the small short maps that were in this megawad worked perfectly with this theme. 3/5x

I had a lot of LICK fun with this one. MY, the maps were all great. SACK those monsters! They will get you everytime. MAES and GLASSYMAN :)x
Anonymous
I don't believe this dropped to 3 stars. Last time I looked it was 4.5. I can't understand the issues people have, nor do I see why this wad shouldn't get a top rate. The concept is executed to perfection, and the quality in terms of level design and architecture is to the standards of other megawads. Unbelievable how such great, thematic, hard work is only recieving average reviews. Someone please explain what may be causing these average ratings, as it's bothering me.x
Anonymous
bah! Playing through 22 maps with only 1 type of monsters in them would be ok in short levels, but not long ones. 2/5 stars.x
Anonymous
You can't ruin bad ideas. x
Anonymous
Being a community project the quality of each individual level varies quite a lot, but few maps are able to overcome the simple fact that the 1monster concept is ill-conceived to begin with. Keeping maps short and sweet probably would have helped overcome the boredom of fighting one monster type at a time, but a number of the maps are just too long and tedious. Overall, a pretty bad idea to begin with, implemented to varying degrees of success. 2/5 FPx

It's sad how you people manage to gang on Glassyman even on this occasion. Go play some Doom maps instead. Like this one. 5/5 -Maesx
Anonymous
Hey Glassyman, why don't you try making levels like these. But now with the review - each level contains one specific monster and there are some nice ones in here. I really liked Cacophany, Spook House. A few maps were unrealistic but most were awesome. Bony Encounter was also a good challenge as well. All levels were challenging, get it now!. 5 Stars -PCx

I didn't like it at all. I thought the maps were goinng to be short and creative, not long and repetitive. Oh well.x

THE community project released in 07. Or maybe it's the only one? Bleh, it's great anyway so don't give a damn about my semantics and play this instead.x
