If you're looking for an alternate universe version of Doom 2, look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you're looking for a version of Doom 2 made using more modern methods, this is just what you've been asking for!x

Great megawad. There is a sense of progression in it, and city levels now actually look like cities. This is how Doom 2 should have been. 5/5x

I think some of the early maps were some of the weakest, but the rest were fantastic - and map 32 was crazy good if you enjoy puzzles. Pretty solid for a one-man effort and interesting that it seems to be his only work as far as I know.x

Mostly awesome, there were a couple of stupid moments, but mostly fine. Flammable4444 02.09.15x

Don't think of this as a re-imagining of Doom 2 like I did - not unless you'd happily wish away Doom 2's frantic gameplay and abstract design for sedate battles and utilitarian architecture. Considering it on it's merits this is a pretty solid WAD, which gets progressively better as it goes on, has few serious flaws and the occasional cool trick up it's sleeve. Plus, it's a one-man vanilla compatible megawad, which is always cool.x

A mixed bag. It's got some mediocre levels, some good ones as well as some outright duds. The third, Hellish episode is especially good, and a handful of earlier maps are very enjoyable as well. Most maps seem to be relatively easy but there's a sudden difficulty spike for MAP29 and MAP30. x

DWMegawad club is currently acting very sniffy about this level set but I think it's aces! always thought MAP 29 was a masterpiece in particularx

Not really getting what people see in this. Its not bad, but theres barely any maps that standout to me.x

One of the best wad! Its level 32 is absolutely unique and very brilliantx

Pretty good. But could've really used some custom music.x

One of my favourite megawads ever. Just brilliant.x

I just love it. Lots of effort into detail and an immersive feel. Definately my new favorite WAD.x

this megawad is very consistent through and through, and it really never gets boring thanks to its consistency. very thematic as well, and good replay value although some of the concept maps are quite silly. some clever secrets too, requring the player to let a monster open a door. just absolutely fucking awesome.x
Anonymous
Extremely well done set of levels, I loved the first 10 especially, because they have a space station look. And one sneak level, never before experienced in DOOM!x
Anonymous
A good solid megawad. Some levels are TOUGH. High replay value.x
Anonymous
It looks amazing, but the layouts aren't very friendly for the first time players. Open areas with many snipers just makes it too difficult on UV FAST.x
Anonymous
The weakest parts overall occur early on. Most of the later maps are definitely worth the look. The first couple maps aren't horrible, just maybe a bit meh, but possibly even those squeeze in as average. Considering this one top of being a first effort, four stars is a given. Worth a look!x

One of the best megawads ever! I recommend playing it with Brutal Doom for an added experience! :)x

One of the best vanilla megawads I've ever played a great mix of classic style and action-packed gameplay. Definitely check this one out.x

something about this wad is undeniably amazing. i cannot put my finger on it, but ive been going at it and the levels make me feel like im not just blasting my way through some random doom level in some random wad. i wasnt expecting much, i just downloaded it, now im like...damn. why didnt i play this earlier? something about it makes it a really good time. download it.x

5/5 This is one of best megawads I‘ve ever played. Especially „Mars base“ levels are incredibly designed, with their own inner logic. I really love m03 – When the blue keycard disappeared in the kitchen, I almost felt like hell itself was playing some dark twisted game with me. „Earth levels“ finally look like they are on Earth. Hell levels are imho the weakest part of this mod, although still better than average. I probably expected more of "hell like" levels rather than "dark temple" styled ones.x

super megawad !!!x

The designs of the two secret levels were not to my liking, but otherwise this is 5/5 all the way.x

I see nothing "mediocre" here except? may be, m01 ) *****x

There are a number of good maps, yet some mediocre ones as well. Yet, no level is terrible and it's a nice passtime. Generally the ratio of good maps increases as you play further.x
Anonymous
Great one! I quite enjoyed it but fails to be classic doom styled! What I mean is that uses textures of real people. still 4/5x

a great one espicialy the hell themed maps 5/5x

not vanilla styled :( 2/5x

There are some maps which are questionable (map18 with stealth, poor architecture in map24, insane secret hunt in map32), but especially the middle episode with its amazing city maps make D2R highly enjoyable. When using PSX music/sfx, you can gain another considerable atmosphere bonus. The levels fit the original Doom II storyline, map sequence actually makes sense and you feel like accomplishing something. Outstanding one-man project anyone should play. 5/5 - NightFrightx

sorry but not cool. 2/5x

You, sir (madam?) are the champion of Doom modding. This level has it all. Much respect for making and uploading this, the Panerai of Doom levels. Props.x

This badboy used to be hugely popular on zdaemon (still is, just not as much), I must have played through this pack about 10 times if I add all the time spent playing together. :) 5/5 - very fun, nice new textures, interesting secrets and fights. Difficult to see anything bad about it. Loved the last episode!x
Anonymous
the first maps sucks then it's a fun and enjoying megawad, secrets in map 32 are clever, a must have 5/5x

some of the earth map are boring but hell episode is the best ever 4/5 x

The first 17 maps are some of the best levels to grace vanilla DOOM II (everyone should play Map17 once). Then Map18 is that horribly-designed stealth map. And then the WAD seems to run out of good ideas once it reaches Map21 (Map24 is amateurish garbage). And then Map29 & 30 are a massive spike in difficulty and are just tedious. So play the first 17 maps; the rest is optional. 3/5 - Murx
Anonymous
Inconsistent. But some of the later maps especially are excellent, such as map29. 4/5x

Amazing. When I first played level 14 for the first time, I was blown away. One of the best parts is that things are what they represent, e.g. the city levels actually look like cities this time, but on doom 2 they just looked like...something. Of course it has its flaws like any other WAD, but they are only small. Some levels are a little bit bland, and map 01 is a bit difficult, even on hurt me plenty, but overall it is still one of the best i've played so far. 5/5 I hate archviles nowx
Anonymous
This is quite a fun mapset to play through, IMO not what DooM 2 should have been, but a solid one man megawad which is good in it's own right. An easy 5/5 - DeathevokatioNx
Anonymous
^We're saying "it's what doom 2 should have been" because in this megawad, the maps actually represent what they're supposed to be.x
Anonymous
Whole megawads are always appreciated, but no, this is not what "doom 2 should have been".x

Good gamex

This is rather awesome. I dare say it may be my favorite megawad add-on. I liked the all the levels, essentially. Play is tough but not too harsh. The later levels are a bit brutal, but can be negotiated if played smartly. The "conceptual" maps, 9 and 18, are perhaps better suited as standalone levels, but they are also well-made and play rather well for their intent. I encountered the map09 bug Black Yoshi mentioned and map30 can crash (vanilla) sometimes. [4/5] ~Chain Mail (03/2011)x

So... some of the maps in this megawad are stinkers, however the majority of maps (nearly 90%) are amazing, not only do they have awesome architecture and a classic feel, but a lot of the maps are really original. I really hope this author decides to make more maps. x
Anonymous
Overall, among the best custom WADs I've ever played in my life; there are only a few flaws I find with it -- mainly, that you can't get into the yellow key room in Level 9 without the game crashing for some reason (meaning you have to use IDCLIP and clip AROUND the opening of the room, turn IDCLIP off to grab the key, then turn it back on to get out of the room. Other than that, fine work! -- Black Yoshix

^^Not Wolfenstein 3D? Sorry but...I just don't understand...how any part of this got associated with Wolfenstein 3D in the slightest. Anyways to the same review, I agree the early maps are a bit on the boring side but the hell maps are good, along with some later city maps, 4/5.x

Played the first 6 maps. Lots of huge open areas "a lá Serious Sam". I really loved how some areas have stuff like chairs, benchs, and tables, wich makes the whole thing fell more real. There are the mentioned flaws, but at least I haven't yet seen tricks with Arch-Viles in places with no cover, like in most popular wads such HR, AV, Scytche2, etc. For what I played so far, I can say it's one of the best megawads I've seen. Highly recommended 5/5 ~ Sergeant_Mark_IVx

The mapping is great, the levels actually look like what they're supposed to be, especially the starport and city levels. I love those city levels. The beginning and latter maps are a little on the boring side, though. This truly is the iwad that id forgot, not wolfenstein 3d.x
Anonymous
Running through it with AEoD and damn, this is tons of fun.x
Anonymous
4/5 Some of the first maps are subpar, but the wad as a whole is very good.x
Anonymous
Awesome magewad, beginning levels just plain, but later maps are better, but I skipped map29 because it's complicated and I feel boring after finished map27 & 28. I love Map32's secrets hunting, it's fun... but the sector with time limit to close is still sucks. :p 4.5/5 -playerlinx

As mentioned by plenty of others the early maps are a bit lame but keep going as the later ones are worth it. Very enjoyable.x

Very nice and fun megawad. 4/5 - BloodMarine -x

Sometimes the detail is lacking, however this megawad has more good levels than bad. The above poster is correct, the PSX music wad really sets the mood. Give these levels a try!x
Anonymous
Very difficult to judge as a whole. MAP21-29 are great, MAP30 is as bad as any other Icon of Sin fight and a lot of the earlier maps ranged from awful to alright. I guess on the whole that makes it average. Took so long to beat I honestly can't remember half of what I've done. 3* - Phobusx

You should play this with PSX music and sounds. Look it up at Doom Depot. It really makes a huge difference, athmosphere-wise. Crazy good maps, by the way. 4/5x

Better than some of the 2009 Cacoward winners. Many maps didn't impress me, but they're still very solid. MAP26 is my favourite, most of the late maps are fan-tas-tic! 4/5 stars, vdggx
Anonymous
I disagree with the reviewer's review. 4 Stars. In my opinion, even if a P.O.S megawad has at least one gem in it, it's worth something. This megawad has quite a few gems in it, and even the bad maps were not all that bad, they were just average or "meh".x

Features impressive texture work and rather interesting gameplay 5 of 5 (Dave_wwid)x

Later maps are IMPRESSIVE. Didn't like the earlier maps.x
Anonymous
Really inconsistent. Some great later maps, but the first 10 or so I was forcing myself to continue. Has some rather ugly textures (and texturing) at points too. 3/5x
Anonymous
First map's a bad introduction but after that it does improve, if it annoys you that much you can just start on map02.x

Incredible job of a megawad, great testing, and attention to technical and aesthetic detail. Nice work, Andy.x

Really cool megawad, one of the best in a while. Certainly cacoaward material. Old-school dooming at it's finest. Really consistent from an atmosphere standpoint, and while the first map wasn't all that great, pretty much everything thereafter was awesome awesome awesome. Well done.x

not bad....reallyx

Good megawad, gameplay is superb, enough ammo and fun challenge. The 'sentinel' map adds nice new gamestyle. Theme is consistant, detail is in some places mediocre, but continuity between maps makes up for it. Oldschool dooming, recomended. 4/5 -MaxSpeeD.x

Excellent! One of the best map-sets I've played in a long time. 5/5x

Jumping Johasaphat! 96 Archviles in one map? I'm hoping this is at least in one of the final maps. If they turn up in one of the first 20 this is likely going to be way too hard for my tastes. I'll dl and give it a try later.x

Sadly for me, "all those moments [in game] will be lost in time like tears in rain". It is completely unexpected masterpiece from unknown author. Thanks, eschdoom!x
Anonymous
This is what Doom 2 should have been in the first place. It's set on Earth. It's in a city. Not that... whatever it was that Id passed off to us as Earth. However, the Arch-Vile level is practically unbeatable if playing with Doom Enhanced. The crushers killing 96 Arch-Viles at once generates too many blood and gib pieces for the engine to handle. Not the author's fault, though.x
Anonymous
Oh, yes, this is a great wad - much fun and a lot of great moments are in there. But there are also a lot of flaws, but don`t let you affect you too much about the flaws. There are also some cool new textures, and I really like the secrets! I just like more a modern art of detailing, but this is just a very fine work, thanks for the fun, AS... 4/5x

I'm up to map 13 and I think these maps are superb. When I read the games that influenced the author I immediately thought that this guy knows what makes quality. This generally has superb flow, with some slower-paced and tricky bits that are bound to annoy some people - mostly crybabies. It also seems to get better the further I get. I would describe this wad as pure FPS gaming: it has the ideal mold of detail and exciting retro gameplay. What more can I say?x

I'm up to map 12 so far and I love it. The above reviewer is right - no criticism comments have been made so far, so let me be the first! The new textures are mostly, if not all, remakes or mixes of various Doom 2 textures. They are all beautifully done. I have two nitpicks about this though: First, why are there at least two Arch Viles in every map except for map01? Also, this could easily use a soundtrack, too bad it doesn't. Anyway, 4.5/5 (5) from me. Recommended. - Motix

I do not have to wait to comment this. Comments exclusively focused on criticism so far and not signed. How dare we have to care about that? I also highly doubt that they were played normally; a fast run to find something to criticise. I currently am on level4, and it took me over an hour so far; I take the time to feel the mood, the textures and the colours. This is surely one of the most imaginative wad I played this year, if not... . x
Anonymous
wow! new vanilla megawad! anyway awesome. played two first maps, it looks like good and original work. without doubt, worth playing the rest. *****x
Anonymous
If you read the above review it mentioned specific flaws. If in fact this wad has been extensively playtested and these flaws are still here despite that, then the testers did a pretty poor job at it and more playtesting (either more focused testing, or from different testers) would have helped.x
Anonymous
On the whole, maps are bigger and harder than Doom2 UV. The layout is sometimes confusing and while the gameplay isn't bad it is sometimes frustrating (chaingunners on ledges in outdoor areas). Now, unlike Doom2 this megawad actually manages to keep a consistent atmosphere - for example, Map07 is barely more than a retexture (unless you pick the secrets...) but these smalls differences are enough to really make you feel like you're in a starport this time. It could have used more playtesting, though. 4/5x
