Good music and some interesting ideas combined with very symmetrical level design and easy/mediocre combat. 2/5 x

10/10 I realy liked this one. Very good. The secret maps are shitty, just map31 was cool. but mostly wad is awesome. And also, yeah, "Hell is a state of mind", i know that feel. Flammable4444 12.10.15x

Great music and arrangements throughout, but one or two that dropped the ball. Although there was a lot of symmetry in some levels, the rest of the wad makes up for it with some great design elsewhere. There a good mix of obvious traps and not so obvious traps. Mostly balanced throughout the wad. The easteregg in map 32 was... something else. So overall a strong 4! x

awesome fun with surprise moments and great musicx

stop rationalising why this wad sucks god dammit! it just does and no crackaward could fix that. enough of having to be PC IRL, why bring this into Doom too?x
Never_Again
"Dull and soulless" is an apt description: map after map of relentless copy-pasta and mechanical gameplay, which occasional nice bits from Aro cannot save -- the epitome of faceless newschool. Pcorf can do much better than this, as he showed just a few months ago with Incineration; but music and not mapping has always been his main strength, anyway. Some of his tracks (like 2002 ADO E3M2) are bordering on genius; cannot think of a single map of his that would evoke half the emotion.x
Anonymous
A bright example of how Zdoom influence corrupts even talented mappers. Completely dull and soulless compared to wads such as RuinBros, DTs, 2002ADO.x

That megawad is totally amazing. I'd spend a lot of time trying over it. May some sectors are a bit repetitive, but isn't the rule. Great one! Do more like that! 5/5x

Loved it.End of story.x

"MORE THAN 3 YEARS GOD DAMNIT!" hahahaha! I know that feel bruh.. keep up the good work!x

Map design in the first half is decent, but nothing too special. Improves greatly by the second half, however. Unusual for more recent megawads, the challenge is mostly on-par with the D2/FD iwads. Starts off easy, and gets more interesting as it goes along.x

My favorite megawad, the hell is really well made, very symetric but i love this style!x

Great WAD! The levels are pretty awesome and have some contrast between levels making them more enjoyable. Also there is a reference to Dark Forces on level 31 :D luv that game! Anyway great WAD! x

This is why I love wads from Paul and Kristian. Simply awesome addictive gameplay and a really well done design. 5/5 from me. -TRRobin.x

I have to agree.... This is a GREAT Megawad !!! Thinking about playing it now with brutal doom derp editionx
Anonymous
Some of the negative reviews one here are ridiculous. "Gameplay is too vanilla"... if you don't like doom gameplay why play levels for that game? WoS is a great wad, one of my favorites. x
Anonymous
Well while I was looking on another unrelated forum it struck me: Occasional symmetric designs in Doom aren't as bad as so many reviews here it out to be. That's why I enjoyed this wad thoroughly and am giving it 5 stars, well done!x

all the two-switch and four-switch presses do get boring after awhile, but I like that it is a recurring theme for the entire megawad. gameplay and design is just right as well, some hell levels are nicely detailed. also MAP19's music fucking rules. very replayable wad in my opinion.x
Anonymous
Hopelessly overrated... While Aro's maps are passable for the most part (this review does not apply to them), it confirms again that pcorf SUCKS as a mapper. From all the copy paste and dull repetitive symmetry (too lazy to even vary monster placement in the different rooms wtf) to the awful gameplay (either predictable snoozefest or annoying traps) to the unmarked secrets... Have always taken care to steer clear of pcorf wads but gave this a try because of all the hype... big MEH from mex
Anonymous
I agree with the review some places above that asks, seriously is everyone basing their review off of the first couple? The symmetry is only enough to taint things significantly in maybe five or so maps. It's a minor blemish at most in all other cases. And there's plenty of very good levels throughout the wad. Not perfect, but great megawad is great. 4.5/5x
Anonymous
A bit odd. even with Brutal doom a bit much of the copy/paste business.Anyway 3/5x

This is great so far, but it seems a lot of door triggers are broken in PrBoom. I can mostly IDCLIP around them, but what fun is that? :/x
Anonymous
I wonder how many reviewers have based their ratings solely on others' reviews. I see some ctrl+v in the maps, and I also wonder if I'd see it if I wasn't warned SUPER fucking thoroughly by the comments before. The mapset is wonderful, from the first map to the last. Five stars. x

This is one of my top megawads, very solid mapset, I can't believe some blind reviewers dislike the first levels, yeah, some symmetrical stuff bothers me, but this file has lot of valuable work in it. 4 stars.x

Pcorf and Kristian deliver with this kick-ass megaWAD. 5/5x

great wadx

This is an incredible megawad, and finally one of the few that doesn't put gigantic squads of Revenants or billions of Cyberdemons in your way. The levels are well-detailed and somewhat interesting, but from time to time the levels get monotonous and repetitive, and though I like the pacing, I think it's a little slow. Even though, I liked it very much. 5/5x
Polri
The first 15 levels are mediocre, but the second half of the wad is excellent! Maps 25-30 are some of the best hell levels I have ever played.x
Anonymous
It was great until I got tired of ctrl+v and constant, predictable ambushes. Seriously, there is a better way to monster layout, and this wad's authors don't know it. But it was fairly enjoyable, nonetheless, so 3 stars.x

Whispers of ctrl+vx
Alfonzo
It has some awesome thematic shifts as well as a constantly changing atmopshere, but I think this is a diversity that doesn't extend to the authors' mapping styles and serves as much to draw out the consistent downfalls in design (such an ongoing symmetry and clean-cut geometry) as it does to keep the player afloat with interest in this regard. A finely crafted megawad to be sure, but not courageous enough to be standout and otherwise too predictable to play through. [3.5]*x

Awesome work - high quality in layout, detail and gameplay throughout 35 maps. Really one of the best megawads out there. 4.5/5x

its allright too hardx

Now, this is a modern day classic, no doubt. Finally a WAD that feels and looks a lot like good old 1994-'95 Doom/Doom2 and is not impossibly hard, not even towards the end. Yes its challenging at times and got some cruel traps but it's never too difficult or nearly impossible like many of today's wads. Great retro wad, almost flawless, definitely recommended. 5/5 Try Reveire as well (another good old fashioned wad).x
Anonymous
Tgis is SPARTA!!! 5/5 ou yeah babyx
Anonymous
This is one of those wads that are both very good but miss and easy opportunity to be even greater. The symmetry is pretty unexcusable at points, it has actually given this wad a notorious reputation. But I don't think it's not still well worth playing. In the end, I'm going to put a 5 down - but it is VERY close to losing a point as I was considering giving it only 4 stars. It's rioght around 4.5 stars, the shameful part is that fix the symmetry and this would be 5/5 beyond any doubt.x
Anonymous
Haha... huge Nazi secret levels, and a sci-fi one too. A bit repetitive, but good quality.x
Anonymous
I am disappointed with this megawad. First twenty maps are symmetrical, easy and boring. Then there are some good maps (maps 14,22,25,28,30 are very good). Overall a fun megawas for non-experts, but it's not a masterpiece. 3.5/5x
Anonymous
Excellent wad. Great design and gameplay. Never feels too overwhelming like some wads do. 4/5.x

Mixed bag really. Some boring maps, and some really great maps. Also, wtf with the pink?x

Play this only for the hell maps (and the nazi maps), the rest is actually pretty boring.x
Anonymous
Great gameplay and architecture. I even enjoyed playing the secret levels. 5 stars -XDoomScootx
Anonymous
Certainly a high-quality mapset. Mad props especially for map32, the secrets were the most fun part.x
Anonymous
Very, very good wad. I loved every minute of playing it. Definitely got a lot of gameplay time out of this one, and without a doubt goes down as one of the greatest megawads in DOOM history!x

A true classic x

Finally completed the complete set. It was good fun. Some parts I found a bit frustrating, especially some encounters with too many chaingunners, but overall the difficulty felt right. However, while the maps are very beautiful, there is not much memorable, no sceneries that stay with you, except maybe some of the later hellish maps. 4/5x
Anonymous
Message to Don Paolito: mostly good maps but I'm getting pissed time and time again because there are no hints for the secrets. Doing this for yourself? - still sucks for the player. Want players to feel the secrets depending on the situation? - still sucks for the player who has to hump every fucking pixel and isn't a clairvoyant. I'm at map 11, stopped and picked this up twice already, but this time I'm done here. 3/5 x

This is by no means a bad levelset, but I do think it's a bit overrated. The amount of symmetry and copy-pasta in some of the levels is atrocious, and a lot of ideas are re-used too often. And the "unique stretched skin" that Scuba Steve mentions in the Cacoward description was done long before in 1996, in Map 24 of Requiem. Pay better attention Steve, Requiem is a classic. Nevertheless a well-deserved 4/5.x

One of my faves, the Hell levels are some of the best I've ever played in a Wad! 4/5 Darklordrobertx

Very very good Wad just map 20 that i dislike. Love it!! can you upload the music pack some where so i can listen to this wonderful music when i am not playing?x
Anonymous
I can't be able to play this wad on ZDoom. Why? Excellent megawad though. Overdetailed much, but still relives the classic feel. I give it 5 out of 5. T-Rexx
Anonymous
My mouth dropped open when I arrived at Level 29. Things were done that I did not know were possible with Doom (even ZDoom). Things that should not have been possible. It was as if the designer had BEEN to Hell. It was that good. Just....just play it. Truly the best megawad I have ever played.x
Anonymous
I can't go above a 3 rating for this. A lot of these levels are littered with copy-paste architecture. While a lot of areas look very well done, other areas appear to be created in nice, neat halves or quarters...then mirrored together (this includes monsters and pickups). Even the fights are repetitious and predictable. I ventured further and played some later levels (well beyond 10) only to find the same thing. Sorry, not my cup of tea. 3/5 x
Anonymous
Nice wad, played through it in coop. Some hard parts but god was the ending easier. Had us all paranoid then it was one of the easiest levels of all. We sniped the end with RL from stairs. Dunno if you are supposed to be able to do that, haha.x
Anonymous
It is Speedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!x

Awesome, I don't need to say more... but some music not good I think. 4.5/5 -playerlinx
Anonymous
Starts off kind of slow and plain with rather unimpressive maps. But it becomes something very complex and engaging as the levels pass. The levels become more visually interesting, the challenges become more complex, and the level designs become more original. It's definitely a great WAD to play, and it's worth the boring beginning. Definitely one of the most entertaining and challenging WADs out there.x

I have finally finished this masterpiece and it was well worth my time. Overall design reminds me of Scythe 2, but it does not play as good. The hellish maps are quite possibly some of the best ever made in Doom. I also liked the music, because it really fits the atmosphere. All in all a modern day classic. A legendary work of art. 5/5x

Awesome gameplay, awesome design, awesome details BUT... epid fail in the musics! 4/5 - Logan MTMx

Agree with MaxSpeeD. There's a bit too much difference between level quality, but give the map set a go when you have time.x

This wad is near legendary and is one of the best. 5 stars is coming from me.x

wow. this really is the best Megawad ever. its challenging, beautiful, long... just wow. keep it up Paul! and good Job Kristian.x
Anonymous
Some levels look great while others are mediocre, sometimes bit too much symmetrical copy/paste architecture. Gameplay is somewhat annoying, shotgunners/chaingun ners are overused and you have to allways look after them so no fun double barrel action just plasma/chaingun scouting. Overall 3/5. Worth a try. -MaxSpeeDx

The earlier maps are... mehx! i almost wanted to delete this wad after repeating what i need to do for the first 15 maps or so. and what happened to some of the musics? this wad is too much of the mix of the perfect and the terrible. play this wad only for the later maps if you ask me. x

just awesome!x

This is excellent. Great job Paul and Kristian. My favourite maps were Vulcana and Sacrificial Grounds. 5/5 eschx

Awesome, but one thing that confused me - what about all the regular non-inverted crosses - I mean, itīs supposed to be hell or did I miss something...?x
Anonymous
The gameplay: Start, bump into a locked door, left another direction, find the key, open the locked door, hit on to another locked door, turn away, find the key and repeat once more for the last locked door. And repeat the same process for a hell lot more levels. It gets too repetitive~ The music for some maps are... simply horrible. The later maps took a sharp turn and are excellent though...x

When I have to stop the game to watch the overall design... there's some piece of art in there. I thank you both for this excellent megawad; there aren't much of those these days. The gameplay was easy for me even at fast monsters, and there was some symmetry and/or repitition but that did not kill it for me. I really enjoyed. 4.2 PFL [A 5, nowadays, would be the partially finished Psychophobia, killer]x

^ A new version of WOS is coming soon which will contain an all new MAP06 and several other fixes such as fixing the co-op gameplay in MAP29. -P.Cx

I like the basic ideas for many maps, though this wad is not for me, there's way too much symmetry and copy/pasting, that it severly hurts gameplay.x

I like. 5/5 -CKeenx

Great, i couldn't believe how recent this was released! With many different themes every episode!x

This would've been a four, but the last batch of maps really put it over-the-top. Map 28 was especially awesome. Really great design in the end there (I LOVE the hell-themed maps), and the descent on Map30 was truly awesome.x

Gameplay was pretty vanilla and boring. Some levels really stood out amongst the copy/paste jobs. Overall a good megawad, but not a great one.x

5 - This is a REALLY great wad, I haven't touched Doom for at least 5 months, and am glad this wad was finally finished...I do wish the music went along with the levels a lot more...it almost seemed like I was listening to the same music over and over again...I am not used to this in Wads made by Paul and Kristian. But as far as the actual levels go, a great wad. I just wish the music was more engrossing like 2002 A Doom Odyssey. x

5 stars from me! I've waited for this baby for some time and it doesn't disappoint! Get it now! - Curunirx

Good work. 5/5x

A good mapset. There's too much symmetry and copy/pasted sections in a fair number of the maps, and the whole hit multiple switches to open door/lower key/raise bridge scenario gets a bit tedious after the umpteenth time. Still, there are a number of good maps and the difficulty level is quite well balanced, not too difficult but not overly easy. 4/5 FPx
Anonymous
Its a pretty good wad. Noticed an improvement from Paul and Kristian's previous wads design-wise and music-wise. Good job guys.x
Anonymous
Copy-pasta, symmetry and repitition are the main sins of this project, with one or two dodgy traps and some odd balancing at times. However, it is still also bulging with quality and many good ideas, so it definitely gets 4* minimum -Phobusx
Anonymous
I had fun with this one!Not to overly difficult that I wanted to keep playing and not quit. Levels well designed and visually pleasing enough that linearity and symmetry were not a distraction. Missed alot of secrets due to being htf/obscure but enough ammo/health around that I didn't need/miss them much. This one goes in my personal archive. Thanks for all your hard work and effort PC and Kristian, this is an excellent swan song!5*-d.d.koopx

I am at map 26 currently, but I love the detail that was put into this and the gameplay works really well, despite it being symmetrical at some points. The level design was good enough, that I didn't notice it at some points. 5/5 - BlazingPhoenixx
Anonymous
very good! but some maps bit boring... =)x
Anonymous
Overall : great architecture, good (not great) gameplay. Pacing feels haphazard at best, some pointless copypaste timesinks in a few maps. It's worth playing ; I'm not sure it's worth replaying. 4/5x
Anonymous
Strong work! But some maps are imbalanced with ammo and traps. I also prefer more oldschool style - without overdetalling and copy/pasta. 4/5x
Anonymous
Fucking awesome! It captures the spirit of classic Doom/Doom 2 megawads and adds in a slightly modern flair to it. The Hell themed levels were kickass! Excellent work Paul and Kristian! This will surely be an instant classic!x

Well done guys! This is a spectacular set of maps. Everything beautifully and seamlessly flows on every level; fun, challenging, entertaining and engrossing. Most certainly 'Cacowards' material. 5/5 -jb x

Just wow! Best megawad I've played in a long, long time. Great action and brilliantly designed maps. This one's a classic. 5/5x

^Keep playing, this problem becomes fairly rare after Map10 or so. Way too many good maps & too much work put into this for anything, anything less than 5 stars. And as ^ eluded, even the maps that do have symmetry aren't bad at all. At least look at all the maps before rating.x
Anonymous
Well, very good but not flawless. Way too much symmetry and copy-paste at times. 4 of 5 from me.x

I waited a long time for this and I wasn't disappointed. The maps are all star quality, top notch and amazing in every reference possible. Everything beyond Map12 is gorgeous. The secret maps were awesome (Except for 35. Or at least the last part of it.) and very original. Well deserved 5/5 and beyond, pure Cacoward material. Bravo PC and Nebula. - Motix
