Ages ago, I submitted this wad for review in the /newstuff chronicles, the original review is still there, posted on May 11, 2010: http://www.doomworld .com/php/topstory.ph p?id=3234 (Down near the bottom). It later won a Cacoward in 2010. Not too long, but still one of my favorites for the atmosphere.x

This one is crafted well. The textures are perfectly selected and the hub implementation is fucking amazing! This is a genuinely scary mod. Custom textures/monsters from Realm667... it's really a treasure!x
Meril
This wad is awesome! Great atmosphere, creepy, lots of non-doom enemies. But... It is hard as hell. Almost impossible to go through. On start, is ok. Later is crampy and powerfull monsters, and the final is crampy and a freaking lots of powerfull enemies! x
Skullguy
Great maps and a great atmosphere,I really liked the first level. But the other maps had way too many fucking enemies.x

I thought the multiple huge monster arena sections were too hard, and detracted from the atmosphere.x

Great atmosphere. Totally worth the two hours I spent playing this .wad. Unfortunately, it got too hard at the end (fack load of Viles and Revenants, barely any health, no ammo), but otherwise, this tense .wad always kept you on your toes with nasty traps, some oshit jumpscares every once in a while, hardly any ammo to spare, and a whole lot of depressing environments. Good luck on your Steam Greenlight entry. This is how I found this .wad 8/29/2015x

Fun and great gameplay.I know unloved II is dropped, but I wish it was finished too. *sigh*x
Getsu Fune
there is a ton of atmosphere here, but I think gameplay leaves quite a lot to be desired since it's so cramped most of the time.x

This is one of the most atmospheric wads I've ever played, if not THE most! The GZDoom effects that were used really added to the feeling of dread, and I enjoyed the gameplay and designs quite a bit, although there were a few moments where the difficulty could have been toned down just a tad. The Silent Hill references were well-done. 5/5, legendary!!!x

It's great but yet so fucking difficult.x
Demonologist
Haven't rated it yet, huh... While some parts are bollocks (most notably the chapel fight, greatly undersupplied so bringing heavy artillery asap for infighting is required) and the overall design is mostly a series of corridors - it's quite pleasant, atmospheric and surely memorable, even though darkness forces to increase gamma correction. Also, for once it's a wad that uses decorate monsters well enough, even in large quantities.x

Awesome wad! I loved the scary atmosphere it emitts. Good stuff. 10/5 would play againx

I'm not sure what to think about this one. Superb wad in many ways, clearly a lot of time and effort went into it. I'm quite sure about one thing though: I wouldn't be able to finish it without a walkthrough. I never was a fan of Hexen and it is really obvious that was a major inspiration, from approach to hub design to map layouts. Trust me, all that scariness and mood is quickly replaced with a headache once you end up endlessly backtracking, or often checking YT to find out what to do and where to go. x

Not bad. The design and atmosphere are really great, but the gameplay really wasn't. The uniqueness wore out after a while and became a boring hunt for where to go next. -TRRobin.x

The ending sucks real bad!!! Sadly it's one of those where do i go kind of games but it's kind of good sadly because it to has a good thought to it but it's confusing!!!!!!!!!!! 2.5/5 stars x

Mixed bag. Amount of work: 5/5. Ambiance: 5/5. Level design: mostly 4.5 but with a few boring places, such as the foggy open areas. Playability @UV: quite often disappointing due to monster floods in too crampy places, and the key hunt. Verdict: 5/5 for a fantastic adventure, 3/5 for playability, so overall 4/5.x
Anonymous
Really loved it, the levels are like eye candy, very dark and ambient. The additional monsters adds a need for new strategy, but this is my only complaint. The strategy I could only do was pray to survive the infighting, too many difficult enemies at one time. But other than that I hope to find more wads from you.x

Well worth downloading to see what Doom 3 might have been like, if the designers had still had their wits. Creepy, frightening, albeit sometimes confusing in that annoying Silent Hill way, but once you're on track this is a horror masterpiece.x
Anonymous
A personal favorite. The maps are very well-done, though there are a few areas that are rather difficult on UV. Maps are very detailed and well-done, and the author does a good job setting the mood.x
Anonymous
This wad, is simply amazing... You don't understand until you've played it, but the author seems to have really cared about the overall experience of this level set. It has a unique feel, more creepy than any other wad that claims to be, and all that while maintaining an original game-play that is top notch. The best among the best 5/5 without question. Enjoy :) I know you will... GREAT JOB AUTHROR! Your attention to detail, hard work, and diligence has not gone unnoticed here!x

Simply Awesome. 5/5x

I was lost occasionally, but felt it played fine otherwise. Gameplay: 7/10. The architecture and atmosphere are what light this fire up though. You need to have shaders off or it's pitch black a lot of the time. It really immerses you; a real mod and not just wad. The ambience and atmosphere are undoubtedly about as close to perfection as you will find, a sure 10/10 here. I do have to knock it down to 9/10 for the confusion, but without an option for this rating I really think 5/5 is justified.x
Anonymous
Brilliantly designed maps that give a feeling of psychological fear, just like that of the Silent Hill series. Great choice of music and a nice variety of monsters. Also, the ability to leave one area to finish something in another was an excellent one. To be honest, I find nothing wrong with this wad; not even the massive amounts of enemies. It makes it challenging and a worthwhile victory. 5/5x
Anonymous
Pretty darn spooky, actually. I was expecting something rather sub-par and not scary, but i could feel the tension and the atmosphere was perfect. If i have one complaint (that i wish i could direct to the entire doom mapping community) it's a plead to STOP using textures ported from Blood and Quake, they are ugly and grainy.x
Anonymous
awesome..but I couldn't find red skullx
Anonymous
Enjoyed it very much--apart from the cool atmosphere and interesting hub traversal theme (obviously patterned most directly on Silent Hill 4: The Room), there's some very effective traps and a lot of use of large groups of smaller demons (read: so it still feels like DooM, action-wise). Here's to a sequel. --TDotWx

I think I lost my brain somewhere in the levels. To me it was a new experience in the DOOM playing.x

The only ZDoom mod I enjoyed, definitely a keeper. Looking forward to Unloved II, whenever that comes out.x

Silent Hill 4 + Doom II -> Unloved = 1000 stars Creepy atmosphere, play the night alone with the lights off.x

WOW is this SCARY I love it :Dx

This wad proves to be a excellent testing ground for my flashlight weapon wad (it's not really a good weapon for all situations) and maybe online. Since the title is 'unloved', I guess the propagonist finds himself truly awake as the 'unloved'. Either that or he found his never-to-be-known brother. The first thing to say is 'What up bro'. ~4 *sx

Atmospheric, dark and scary... Excellent jobx

The atmosphere of the wad is great. One of those wads were you have to put your mind to it and solve puzzles. 5/5 :)x

Pretty cool, although some later fights seemed rushed. 4.5/5x

This is probably the most atmospheric doom mod I have ever played. I really enjoyed it. There were lot of inovative ideas and well used new resources. Unfortunately I cannot give 5* to it because of the gameplay. Maybe I am just too poor player, but near the end I had often problems to fight the hordes in cramped rooms with obstacles. Yeah... but overall it was really good. 4/5 - Damnedx

A masterpiece. Great Silent Hill atmosphere and very good and hard gameplay 6/5x
Anonymous
An example on how to use Realm667 resources right. 5/5x
Anonymous
I've got to side with the high voters here. There were a few times I was stuck so gameplay alone would lose a point (4/5), but the value of the rest leads to an overall rating of 5 pretty easily. Just make sure you have shaders turned off and then it won't be pitch black and you'll see what this is all about.x
Anonymous
It's always great to see an 'alternative' approach to doom mapping that is pulled off well, not every one of us wants the exact same kind of gameplay experience after dooming for years and dont mind seeing a mapper 'experiment'. Not everything goes right but so much of it does that I'm too busy having fun to care. This WAD has been crafted with skill and an eye for atmosphere and to give it anything less than a 4 is impossible, though I myself have given it a 5.x
Anonymous
Obviously Silent-Hill inspired, not that it's a common theme in Doom maps or a bad thing. The levels are excellent, the ambiance is unsettling, and it's technically brilliant. The layout is complex, yet easy to navigate, and the hub system is clever. 5/5x

Fantastic gameplay and design. One of the best pwads for me. A bit hard, but funny. 5/5x

Best WAD I ever played. Finished in UV. I miss this kind of gameplay in modern games. IT IS possible to run every part of this wad without taking damage, so it is just a matter of save abusing. AND I LOVE SAVE ABUSING! It pushes you to the limit! It makes you want to do it even better! I love how the wad demands an even better run from the player. The wad is creepy, fun, HARD but not frustating (learn to use dificulty modes) and It was one of the best gaming experience I ever had. 5/5x

Realm667 custom monsters are just overpowered amateurish recolors and most of them don't fit at all with this mod to begin with. It's not because he ripped them, it's because the resources he borrowed sucked. If he had recoded the monsters himself so that they were more tolerable, I would have rated this wad higher. As such, this wad isn't as good as it could have been because I am constantly bombarded with overpowered bullshit to the point that I can't enjoy the other parts of the levels.x
Anonymous
It actually wasn't scary. That's not because of the ripped resources or anything (I'm okay with that because they're monsters that haven't seen much action as opposed to those goddamn Shadows), but because dark levels, aphex twin/silent hill music, and monsters popping out at you whenever you do anything just isn't truly scary. My rating would be pretty average but as it stands, I never liked hubs because they promote these inane switch/key hunts.x

How interesting -- my spambot check was 1 + 4. So you know what this is getting.x

Not my cup of tea but a real achievement and a good cross to bear for your hard work. I'd love to see something more classic from you sometime, not that this isn't great, but i'm a sucker for a real classic Doom feel. 5/5 for all things considered - phobosdeimos1x

Dont feed the troll. This is the best doom wad ever. Gameplay is fantastic. 10/5 stars.x
Anonymous
This is total overrated garbage. I agree with the guy who discussed the ripped textures, ripped sprites... the gameplay outright sucks. What are some people thinking giving this 5 stars? This is totally rubbish! 1/5.x
Anonymous
Awesome wad! Highly recommended. 5 Starsx
Anonymous
Battle is just the repeat of same things after all. With too many cramped spaces, player can be stuck easily and will take unexpected annoying damage, and sometimes it just takes so many hours to kill all of monsters. There should be more usage of stronger weapons like BFG, and less seeking projectile by monsters if there's a trap of mass monsters with no enough space for that, because this map contains very nice detail and lighting of gzdoom and I know you don't wanna add the extra space for that. x
Anonymous
After playing this chilling wad for too many more times, I will probably end up as insane as the dude in the game. :Px
Anonymous
The ambiance was nice, pretty textures and lighting, it's a fantastic Gzdoom wad. Gzdoom is the future trolls. 5/5x
Anonymous
Atmosphere has already been mentioned, and it's true - this wad is heavy in that respect. Unfortunately, this is only a part of the battle. Gameplay isn't there for me, with too many cramped spaces and obnoxious fights. Some more variation would have been nice. 3/5 -Snakesx
Anonymous
The ambiance was nice, but beneath all of the pretty textures and lighting, it's just a mediocre Gzdoom wad.x
Anonymous
Fantastic made me want to play the game for real and not cheat lol. Difficulty was outstanding it was at the point where it gave you a challenge but was still lenient 5/5 Map design was flawless 5/5 All i have to say was... It left me wanting more x

oh my god. let's do an awesomeness check shall we? insanity as the basis? CHECK. epic gameplay? CHECK. The fact i haven't even playied this and it's awesome? CHECK. 3/3 checks. 956340956439056039/5 stars. if i knew text art, i would do a vault boy from fallout giving you a thumbs up.x
Anonymous
Definitely worth playing, but this is too confusing in too many spots. Definitely the most atmospheric wad I've ever played to date, and makes good use of the GZDoom rendering engine. Like a lot of OMGFLASHYGRAPHICS projects though, the gameplay part really sucks - the challenge is not the monsters themselves but how often you get lost. I like this, but it could be better.x
Anonymous
excelent mod, cool atmosphere 5/5x

This uses many additional monsters from the realm667 bestiary, but the original Doom monsters donít suit the Silent Hill theme IMO, so I loaded d3mod_fixed_ver2.wad before unloved.pk3. Some of the firefights are very crowded, but you can always find a strategy to survive. I never got stuck or bored and I played through the entire thing in one sitting (6 hours). I havenít been this hooked on a game for a long time. (5/5)x
Anonymous
This wad was scary, and very challenging, but it was very good. The ending confused the hell outta me though. 5/5x
Anonymous
Absolutely amazing! I just finished playing through and it was truly an amazing WAD. I had started working on my own custom just before Unloved had come out, and now I only hope that my wad will be half as epic as yours =Dx
Anonymous
Im still having dreams about this... it is like entering someones mind and seeing what influences them. Its amazing that we humans have such vast creativity. Now i just need to forget about all this...x
Anonymous
I'm giving this 0/5 because of boring gameplay, too much ripped resources, and for bastardizing Heretic golems in this pathetic and dull wad.x
Anonymous
oh yeah!! Faboulous....x
Anonymous
The Cacowards sent me here. And I'm glad they did. The atmosphere creation here is just suburb, the feeling that the real threat is the level itself and not so much the monsters, now THAT is hard to pull off. I salute you sir, you are one of my inspirations to make WADs of my own.x

One should not even compare LoS to this. 5/5x

5/5 Best wad this yearx

Legacy of Satan 2. Thematics paint square corridors and endless doors. Arena fights mean stale combat (start was ok). Progression is mindless wandering through the hub maps looking for key doors. Did the author really get permission from Lustmord, Aphex Twin etc. for the music? "Authors may NOT use the contents of this file as a base for modification or reuse. Permissions have been obtained from original authors for any of their resources modified or included in this file." Big heh here. 1/5x

Amazing atmosphere, great usage of the hub system, great visuals, good gameplay with some minor problems (too much health lying around, some annoying monster-filled rooms). Still, a well deserved 5/5 and one of the best WADs of this year. Two thumbs up!x
Anonymous
very good!!! the atmosphere is very similar to the city of the damned 2x

Atmospheric, although not scary as I'd imagined it might be. I liked the ending, particularly the trick with the mirros on the way. My main gripe is gameplay. It starts off well, with tight supplies. It then moves into tough with plentiful ammo and decent health. Then it turns into slaughters in tight places that aren't always well supplied, with too many archviles in bad places. 4* -Phobusx

One of the best, if not the best PWADS ever made. Definitely a cacoward contender. The build time was only 4-5 months? Wow, it would probably take me over a year to do something like this. 5/5 ~Sonikkux

Unloved is much lovedx
Anonymous
This was pretty much a disappointment. With my expectation set up really high with all the positive comments, it ended up an anti-climax. Design wasn't bad at all, but the gameplay left a lot to be desired. Atmosphere was great, but I think mainly the silent hill music gives it more credit than it deserved. Would've been 4 stars but the overload of 5 makes it 3 instead.x
Anonymous
Oi, moody but kind'a ridiculous. much of it is crawling through endless hallways carving through blocks of enemy flesh, which aint much fun. the lighting is nearly non-existent and when it is there you're either squinting so much you get a headache or going into epileptic seizures from the flashing. the HUD's great, gameplay's a pain. 2.5/5x
Anonymous
The best pwad done so far, as evidenced by their score. It is a perfect fusion Doom-Silent Hill 4. Graphically perfect, use the motor (G)ZDOOM to perfection. It is hard, aesthetic, cold. Perfect music and new enemies well used. The traps are like Silent Hill. It's Doom, it's Silent Hill, is better than both. Second part please.x
Anonymous
This was amazitastical. Definitely one of the most terrifying things I have ever played. This requires both a sequel and a Cacoaward... and maybe more health packs. -Xanx

EPIC WINS! Awesome atmosphere and hub design, holy shit, nothing can say more, try it with all your cost! :D 5/5 -playerlinx

Atmospheric, in a word. Very Silent Hill-ish feeling, with claustrophobic, panicked combat, good use of new enemies, a plenty of varied textures. A five-star if I ever saw it.x

Silent Hill? In MY Doom? I'll take it! This WAD provides all of the following: good challenge, top-notch visuals and design, a few new bad guys, an interesting story, a very eerie soundtrack, and an awesome and foreboding atmosphere. Only cons I can think of? Difficulty was a bit too lame at a few points, i.e. a hallway where hellknights spawn on each end. But the bullcrap moments were very very few, so it's cool. Looking forward to see what Paul does next! 5/5x
Anonymous
Beautiful is the best word I could ever pick to describe this WAD. Only one gripe: the ending was about as bad as Borderlands'. Here's 5 stars and some good luck making a terrifying sequel!x
Anonymous
Very nice looking levels. I haven't played such a characteristic wad since Void. Most of the puzzles (switch-hunts) were not too confusing; the keys and the footsteps puzzle were well done; however some like the getting the blue skull key were a little confusing. The slaughter encounters were challenging yet didn't take forever to finish. I played it in two sittings because I couldn't stop playing until I finished. 5* - DeumReaperx

It's in my all time top 10. Nuff said. 5/5x

Atmospheric, scary, but still action-packed. Great WAD.x

This wad I say was incredible. Found a few areas that were pretty darn difficult but the design was great. I have never been on the edge of my seat ever when playing Doom. This was like a combination of Silent Hill, Chainsaw Massacre, Blood, and, of course, Doom all in one. It also felt like Legacy of Suffering due to the suspense. I say this is literally a work of art. Excellent job Mr. Schnieder. -Alando1x

Holy shit, the ending was just... it gave me chills in a sense. Though the only problem I had was finding keys. Other than that, I agree with Paul Schneider, this needs to be nominated for Cacowards. Definitely a *****x

Hands down the best Wad I have played this year, hell the last few years. Amazingly atmospheric, great music choices, sweet hub based game play, great sense of progression through out, simply amazing in every aspect I can think of. The only time I ever felt lost was when playing the first few releases with the bug that caused you to get stuck with no way to progress. since they have been fixed I never feel lost. 6 out of 5, keep up the great work and here's to a definite Caco Award.x
Anonymous
I lost interest in playing further because it is impossible to remember where to go - it`s too confusing and destroys the fun; atmosphere is terrific - could have been very great, 4/5x
Anonymous
what kind of ending is that? -3 stars for the lame ending. otherwise you would have gotten 5/5.x

This is the creepiest Doom WAD I've ever played! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! The music is eerie, the lighting effects are chilling, the plot is engaging, and it's so involved! It was some quickie run-through, and I like that. It required you to think your way through the game, to pay attention, and to remember things. Definitely a top-notch WAD that's destined to become a classic. I hope there's a sequel because that ending sure left me wondering!x
Anonymous
YUS! I just jizzed out pure happy. Just because this WAD was amazing.x

This is easily one of the most atmospheric wads I've ever played. You definitely need to make more in the spirit of this. Solid 5/5 from me.x

If you like dark maps, you'll love this hub. If, however, you have any urge to admire, contemplate or even see where the hell you are, then you might want to pass. One of the weapons should have been modded to a headlamp.x

Wow, awesome job. Lots of nice ideas. I had a couple of gripes: At times it was confusing where to go next, some of the traps were a bit annoying and I felt the ammo was a bit lacking for the RL, Plasma, BFG. Took about 3.5 hours on UV. Still 5/5 for an excellent piece of work.x
