Quite simply the best mappack ever released. The level design is (almost) always of extremely high quality, with designs clearly influenced by the first Doom but also by other mods and games out at the time. The gameplay is fun and varied, the fights always interesting and the soundtrack is amazing as you would expect. Memento Mori 1 should be the bible of FPS level designers. I wish most modern mappacks were as good as this one. Don't miss out on it.x
Spectre01
Pretty good wad with large map variety and generally solid classic gameplay. Not too challenging but enough to keep you from playing sloppy. High quality original soundtrack too. A few of the maps are underwhelming or have too many annoying switches to hunt for but it's fair enough considering the age of the wad. 3/5 Plutonia is still better! :Ox

Although the thematic progression is inconsistent with aesthetic styles all over the place, among which quite a few abstract locations, most of these map are of high quality when considered as stand-alone works. However, a there is a handful of maps in here that are downright terrible (MAP25 is especially confounding in the absurdity of its design). Be aware that many of these are fairly long, some pretty hard (18, 24), and some a challenge for your brain (07,28). Good job overall.x

great for it's time and great new music. pretty cool that's it's more coop-oriented, but some of the maps aren't balanced for singleplayer (MAP11, looking at you). also, there's lotsa hitscanners.x

An excellent mapset. Despite some worse parts (MAP25... and what's the idea with MAP29 giving you the key to the exit right at the beginning?), this is one of the more professional-looking and better Doom mapsets. Fun, balanced, and with a good (if a tad too easy) MAP30, and an excellent soundtrack, this is a must-play. x

great wad. very very good.x

I've played my share of DOOM and pretty good at it I think, but this was just plain too hard. Tons of stuff coming at you and not nearly enough ammmo, for example...and the maps didn't flow well at all. Underwhelming.x

Epic! I love MM series! 5/5x

A classic vanilla wad that is still great today. The biggest thing going for the MM wads is the fun factor; which it has in spades. Sure it's not "perfect", but what is? Given it's time of release, and how well it stands up; this is for me a 5 star wad. -TRRobin.x

Me and my buddy beat this thing all the way through recently using Doom Legacy splitscreen. These maps are really interesting and confsuing, but very rewarding to figure out. There's the occasional game breaking crusher bug, but overall I'd say if we're adding an extra point for age then this deserves a 6 out of 5.x

This is one of those wads where you just have to honor its age and impact at release, and TBH I feel the DWMC failed there miserably. Sure, if it were released today, MM would be forgotten in minutes. There are tons of maps that are average or even subpar/quite bad for today's standards. But this is early 1996, folks. It might be the first full fledged community wad ever released freely. Much like Fava Beans, it must get an additional point for age; that's only fair, and you should play it once. So 4/5.x

Simply Historical a must have !x

This is a legendary classic. Big, fun maps, original music. One of the best megawads ever.x

Absolute classic. I miss this old style.x

An ugly, confusing mess. Easily the worst of the old 'classic' megawads I've played so far. Maybe I should be playing it in co-op but I can't imagine that it would be radically improved.x
Anonymous
Just a classic, nothing much else to say, quality does vary like any wad with multiple authors, but the majority of the levels are great. x

Very good megawad, but not one of the best. 4/5x

played because of his reputation the result is a big desapointement 1/5x

I played this many years ago and I loved it. Now I have played it again. Unfortunately I found there some bugs here and there and logic of some maps were quite chaotic. It is wonderful megawad and it was a gem in its time. In my opinion after all the years it lost some magic. 4/5 - Damnedx

You need to understand why this wad is great. Stop trolling and go watch the demos on compet-n or DSDA to learn why. 5/5x

overated d2reload is better, 2/5!x

SUX! 0/5 Hahaha just, kidding 5/5x

it's a mixed bag, some levels are quite enjoyable and better than many new stuff but some others (50%) are really crappy and ugly looking (eg. the mansion and level 02 with that faggish medieval textures). older doesn't mean better, so it's a little overrated, i'll give this 3 stars for undeniable clever gameplay.x
Anonymous
Sorry, but this megawad can never be 5/5, it's not perfect, it has some bugs and 3 ridiculously ugly maps but for all the rest 4/5 is well deserved!x
Anonymous
Some of the maps are pretty bad (MAP12, MAP25) but all the good fun levels boost this up to 5/5x

There are very good maps like Map28 here, but there are horrible too, like 29 and 31. Overall a good megawad, but second part is better. 4/5x

Hardly over-rated, for a 1996 release.x

And while I continue to put my name on anything I say or do most others seek the safe shelter of anonymity. This set of maps is famous for a reason: it's damn good. --Herculinex

By far, it's not as good as everyone saying it is. Most of the maps are boring, and often annoying and confusing. The level design is pretty good, but nothing outstanding here. A disappointment 2.5/5 (OK I realize it's certainly more fun when played on co-op...)x

This was the first megawad I had ever played, a great introduction to the world of Doom WADs and a great representation of just what amazing things people can come up with when starting from scratch. ~vfx

5/5 Great gameplay. Early levels ease you in, later levels are quite tough. New textures make these maps POP and interesting switch puzzles are intuitive enough and rewarding enough to keep you engaged. The fact that it's super-optimized for Coop just another cherry on top of an already delicious sundae. -KMX E XIIx

This is probably the first great megaWAD ever made - the Founding Father, in a way. Most levels have interesting themes (e.g. power plant, mansion, haunted town, or laboratory complex). If you get some people along to play cooperatively, you're in for an amazing treat. Most importantly, difficulty is well-balanced, unlike some modern megaWADs that rely on absurd amounts of monsters to challenge the player.x

An automatic five, not only does this still play pretty well but it was possibly THE wad that revolutionized Doom designing.x

Great megawadx

Playing through this the second time, I realized that this wad has infinite replayability. Definitely one of the greatest wads ever made. It captures DOom perfectly.x

^ Amen to that.x

This is the epitome of DooM!!! There are just so many kick ass levels have better gameplay than anything released after 2004. 5/5 And hell, these levels shine even more when I compare them to the hideously ugly zdoom wads full of butt ugly effects and hideous slopes and overrall bland layout modern levels have to offer. So in other words, give me Momento Mori over all this other crap that changes DooM into something it isn't. ;)x

fragging awsomex

One of the greatest wads ever made. While the looks might be outdated, the gameplay is truly timeless and was far ahead of anything else in 1995. I also dig the soundtrack, too. Really, MM is almost perfect with the exception of 2 or 3 "dated" maps. 5/5x

One of the only wads i bothered saving on floppies back in the day, sure glad to see it rockin up til today. Long live MM crew.x

Can be both really fun and incredibly frustrating. Playing in SP is kind of tedious on the maps that are especially co-op oriented. I can ignore the roughness of the detail given that it's a wad from 1996, but that doesn't excuse a couple of these levels (Map10, Map12). Some nice gameplay overall, and it does co-op well. Also, the good maps (Map28, Map23, Map07, etc.) are super-fun. So for that, I'll bump it up to a 4/5. -Snakesx

Classic, classic, classic! Perfect on every level, it's one of the most entertaining and continuously engaging WADs ever. I love the level designs, the challenges, the gameplay...it's perfect.x

This is the worst megawad ever. I'm giving it -5/5. ... Kidding! It deserves a -20. On the Richter Scale. What in deuce does that mean?x
Anonymous
The best megawad ever? Quite possibly. Although it does have a few duds, MAP12 and MAP25 in particular, and some of the levels are buggy, especially when it comes to all the secrets being accessible, this WAD is packed with some of the best maps ever made. MAP03, MAP07, MAP09, MAP15, MAP18, MAP21, MAP23, MAP27, MAP28, and MAP32 are what Doom is all about. If you haven't played this, do so now. 5/5x

I liked this better than MM2.x

This is fun to coop in to this day, this wad and its brothers (MM2, Requiem) are timeless. 5/5x

This is classic doom mapping at its finest! Excellent map design and great music. Download this classic megawad now! 5/5x

An old wad, and the maps would mostly be considered outdated, but an absolute classic! More or less (along with MM2/Requiem) the AV/NDCP/CC of the 1990s, these maps would not be considered to quality as far as levels today are concerned. But at its release, this was probably the best wad ever, no doubt. It is still fun; it's worth playing, and more than just for historical value. 4/5 for today + 1 for classic status/mid-90's release = 5/5x

("For its time, this was quality, today its mediocre at best. Objectively it was never that great, but the level of quality have always been low, so it still holds up to mediocrity. Gameplay is fun enough in a few maps, simply because the game dosnt require more than ammo in abundance and scattered targets, to grant some fun. 3/4 stars, partly because of its position as -the- classic. -Johnsen") Fucking LOSER this excellent OLD megawad is legendary and thus deserves *****x

This one is theeeeeee best. Great levels and music. Gave it 5 stars cause it's pretty old by now, so it now deserves the "legendary" title ^^. x

heard good things about this wad so i decided to play through it listening to bullet for my valentine X D through the levels using Itunes i gotta say this and the sequal is pretty good gonna put this and its sequal in my collection =]i think listening to metal music while playing doom and quake makes it a hell of lot more enjoyable X D keep rocking!! to all you BFV fans out there!!!x

Legendarily good, and even despite all the level authors feels very cohesive. List of contributors now looks like an honor roll of Doom greats. Romero should have given TiC a call rather than sub in TeamTNT for Final Doom.x

except few ugly maps, it's excellent mapset. but even ugly maps here is legendary. :P *****x

this sucks, i hate the level design of the few levels i played before it annoyed the hell out of me .x

Quote: "Bugs: None! This is quality!" Ever since I've first played this years ago, I still enjoy it. There were a lot of great maps in this set, with my personal favorite being MAP23, due to the "me Vs the world" feeling I experienced while playing it. Quite potentially one of the greatest mapsets ever made, hands down! (5 stars!) x

Probably the most played & wellknown megawad compiled. For its time, this was quality, today its mediocre at best. -Johnsenx

The mother of all megawads, MM1 is a bit crude in comparison to modern doom maps, but still worth your time, especially considering the time of it's making, it's a pretty advanced. It does pail in comparison to requiem, though, which is a true masterpiece in my book. I kinda like it better than MM2, though, which is better looking, but a trifle boring gameplay-wise. My fav was map21. Note: It IS POSSIBLE to finish map 31 in SP, with the secret exit, watch the demos to see how! 5 stars. -TeH NeXuSx

One of the Doom calssics. Some maps obviously seem a bit aged these days, but for early 1996 these levels are incredible. While its sequel, MM2, and the ultimate succesor, Requiem have overtaken in, this is certainly a classic and even today, its still pretty nice. A 5/5 is given, partly for its incredible classic status alone.x

Above average, but missing that something that makes Doom so enjoyable. 4/5x

Kinda dull on single player... and I don't consider myself a real badass Doomer, either.x

This is trully a classic. Back in the days of it's creation it was unbellievably well executed, especially knowing that it took only about 5 months to create and, just as the reviewer below stated, unlike most of it's peers it holds extremely well today. Some of the maps are brilliant. My favorite is map21, but there are also others like map28, map02, map07, map08, map09, map17, map13, map20 etc. that are trully classic. This is something i'd care to play twice.x

This was one of the first megawads I've downloaded alongside MM2. There is no doubt that this plays pretty will in single player. All of the levels were well designed in this Wad. I still still play the MM series occasionly. -pcx

Though dated in detail, Momento Mori is still easily my favorite megawad out there in the gameplay department, and the detail is still great considering. Play it solo for a good time, coop for a real blast.x

as the 5 stars say - legendary. You just need to play thisx

MM1 is one of the best Doom2 WADS out there. I remember playing it back in the day with a friend until the wee hours of the morning every night. This WAD is incredible.x
Anonymous
This was one of the first megawads I played and it still remains in my TOP-5. It might seem a little dated by today's standards, but I would still highly recommend it. It has some classic maps, for example MAP28, a great citystyle map and MAP23, a precursor of Hell Revealed maps. The music is possibly the best ever in a megawad.x
Anonymous
This is one of the all-time 5 greatest, alongside its successor Memento Mori 2, Requiem, Alien Vendetta, and Hell Revealed. It was also one of the first megawads to focus on co/op play. Yes, it is aged, but the overall quality of the maps is still amazingly high. I regard some of these maps as among the very best ever made, period. Almost nothing is as classic in the long history of Doom as Memento Mori. If you haven't yet, play it through (perhaps with a friend!) and be pleasantly surprised. --5/5x
