This wad's pretty bad, even compared to something like Evilution. Lame custom textures, very rough map geometry and some really crappy gameplay. 1/5 for some good music. x

I appreciate what they tried to do here as far as story goes and new textures are always welcome but its rather lack luster even for its time. 2 stars for effort and new resources.x

Enjoyable for the most part, until you reach some cryptic as fck puzzles where you're not sure where to look or go.x

A somewhat uneven mapset. Unlike other megawads it contains mostly short, quick levels, which I appreciate. On the average, most maps have not aged well, and despite some interesting moments the gameplay isn't that good, and the looks (maybe apart from map29) are very noticeably out of date, especially these garish colorful textures and the bareness of it all (the all-silver map07 comes to mind). Not as great as other releases from that era (Memento Mori for instance.)x

really ugly mapset, shawn-fest walls, uninspired and boring gameplayx

Pretty good in my book.x

Action was a bit too sparse and lacking for my tastes, but aside from that it's a pretty okay megaWAD.x

Mmm, no. Evilution had way too many samey generic techbase maps, with plenty of them even being obnoxious with the corridors/tunnels. I can only recall two-three maps suffering this problem in Icarus. Icarus displayed more thematic variety with the levels, with a decent number of concept maps to keep things from getting boring. Music also displayed a greater sense of composing skills. Evilution did offer a more challenging experience, on the other hand. But meh.x

^Because Evilution has maps that IMO are quite strong in most if not all aspects while this wad has comparatively fewer maps that could be considered that way. Sure some of the most rotten stuff in TNT is worse than Icarus, but TNT is a wad I can definitely recommending at least cherry picking several good maps from and just ignoring the rest if you please. Icarus, on the other hand, my 'cherry pick' list isn't as big. Meh, but +1 star for its age and a good soundtrack.x
Anonymous
I honestly don't know how people could prefer TNT over this. TNT was a mixed bag, and suffered some of the same issues MM1 had. Icarus on the other hand has a nicer concept, and better overall pacing. Some maps may not be that aesthetically pleasing, but gameplay is still fun overall. Only complaint is that it rarely goes above being a moderate challenge.x

Nothing to write home about, but very good. Great gameplay. Though there are a few levels that are kind of crappy-looking, others are very clever.x
Anonymous
Good for its time. It's just ... pleasant in general. But, even so, I found myself wanting to "get through" its maps because they were too vanilla Doom for me. 3/5 because it's ... just pleasant. (I'm sure that I would have rated it higher in the past, but times change.)x

How do you do this this is legendary 1000000/5x

^ wow you think it's hard? even on HMP I didn't die until map 11 or so. and for those who say it looks ugly and all: this was fuckin' made in 1996, so what? i think it's one of the best wads ever made. better than memnto mori IMO.x
Anonymous
Wow! Let me just say that Icarus: Alien Vanguard is HARD. I'm currently struggling with the first level! So... many... HITSCANNERES. And not much ammo, even on HMP either! But it's a great level. I'm not sure what Doomworld meant by saying the looks have suffered. It looks great! I also only just realised you start Map 01 inside a crate. It's great!x

Man, this looks (and plays!) dated. Maybe at the time... But eh, I played it these days. :-P 2 stars for the effort. -FDx

People saying it's just "average" - Do me a favor and see how tough to use DEU is, and come back to me. We didn't always have Doom Builder! Was the music for map11 really written for Icarus? It rocks the house, glad it was reused in the Brit series. A legend, 5/5x

Pretty average.x

Icarus is definitely an old school WAD. Some maps are unique and have personality. Others are boring and linear. For the most part, it looks good, plays well, and is fun. However, it lacks in difficulty. There is never much challenge throughout. I never even came close to running out of ammo. Health is in abundance. 3.5/5x

A bit plain in some levels, compared to other '96 megawads, but overall still matches up with the quality of the iwads. OST is certainly amazing too.x

Best original soundtrack in any megawad, along with the memento mori's. x

Great wad and nice layout, however, sometimes the texture choices for some maps are very bad looking. Still, a solid WAD indeed 4.5 TB171x

Agreed with the statement above about this wad being the worst TNT creation, but in my case it bad enough for giving it "negative" rating. You may encouter some neat ideas, but the overall impression you get is that you digging for gold in the scrapeland for not much avail. The very awkward and inconsistent design here is to oppose other vanilla levelsets of the long past, like Memento Mori or such. x
Anonymous
it wasn't that bad honestly.x

The worst TNT creation, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's a mixed bag for me. A lot of the levels look very dull and monotonous, and the gameplay is likewise. However, there are some standout maps and neat graphics that look good even today, and the gameplay is not too hard either. The plot is unique as well. For that, Icarus: AV gets a 3/5 from me. Evilution and Eternal Doom are far better and more noteworthy efforts. An aged wad best played for nostalgic purposes.x

One of the all-time greatest megawads. Looks as good now as it did when it was released, and the maps have enough depth to remain interesting even when you've played them countless times. Nice music too, but that's just icing on the cake.x
Anonymous
Icarus is a good wad, though it hasn't aged as well as most other classic wads from it's time.x

Awesome mega-wad. there's not much medikits on ultra violence well what do i expect when playing on ultra violence but cool wad anyway. 5/5 - Southpark2010x
Anonymous
I love this megawad. Completely lacks any unreasonably huge levels we mostly see nowadays. And uses the classic way of making a decent challenge by relying on level design rather than simply monster spam. The music is very enjoyable and quite unique for a doom wad of its time, too. Can definitely hear a number of different genres here ranging from hard rock, to jazz.x

Extremely good set of maps. 32 old school orgasms in a rowx

Sweet WAD. It's your typical Team TNT creation. Mostly small and easy maps, creative and "catchy" level design, straightforward gameplay, that's the way I like it :) Shouldn't be a problem even on HMP difficulty - much like Scythe. My only complaint is that the intermission screen looks pretty ugly, and some levels are very poor in details, like if they were made in '94 or something... 4/5x
Anonymous
This megawad is enjoyable, but...it doesn't match some other classics from '96 (MM2 still undoubtedly best) so only 4/5. Still, worth a look, and it's a good first free release from the team that went on to produce far more.x

The thing that works best for me in this megawad is how it's able to alternate themes while not being inconsistent since after all, you are traveling by ship. Between planets, simulators and starships, this is one of my favorite megawads. ~vfx
Anonymous
I liked it, mostly because of the way it alternates high-tech spaceship and demonic planetary levels. There are a few pretty good ideas in terms of level design and new textures. - D!x

This is one of the greatest OS mappacks here. Way to go Team TNT!x

Legendary. Literally.x

Ugly ass maps with horrific gameplay, play if you like hitscan hell. At least Evilution had a couple decent maps...x

HUGE levels but not eternal huge. Perfect gameplay throughout the wad. GET IT 4/5 - TheBragglex

After playing through this, I can say that this is one of the best wads to ever exist! The gameplay is fucking perfection, and is diverse. The themes are refreshing. The music is excellent. And the maps overall have creative layouts and a nice warm atmosphere to them. I know people are saying that this has aged poorly, and while some maps are a bit rough around the edges, if you put all your nitpicking aside, this wad really has it's own unique universe that will open up your imagination. - DeathevokatioNx

May look dull and boring so long after its release, but if you play it, you notice quickly gameplay and atmosphere are still present. While the spaceship levels are often rather tiresome, the planet surface maps deliver, taking you to an alien diner, some alien Stonehenge place, an archaeological dig site and many other interesting settings. Supported by great music, Icarus is another great wad by the people who brought us Final Doom. 5/5 - NightFrightx

Spice it up with Immoral Conduct for a more ferocious experience.x

I tried to do this, I tried to like it, but map12 got bugged up the ass and I refuse to noclip. Why can't TeamTNT just make normal map sets like everyone else?x
Anonymous
What can I say? It's a classic.x

A solid megawad with a decent story. Looks a bit shabby nowadays but there's plenty of fun to be had here. And the thematic touches are cool.x
Anonymous
this one for me was enjoyable i am not sure if alien vendetta is a sequal or not to this one but i hav both and they were pretty dam good but eternal was one of the better wads i have played alongside hell revealed =]x

The first pwad I ever played, and I still love it. 5/5 for being really awesome.x
Anonymous
Well, the theme is good and the gameplay is good pretty much throughout, but the architecture on many maps leaves something to be desired. I am right on the fence between 3 and 4 stars here, but I think that I should give it 4 as it is still fun to play and keeps well to a theme. 3.5(4)/5 -Brandon D. Ladex

NOOOOOOOOOOOOICE. It looks a bit squarish though.x

Old and simplistic with some mild nostalgic value at most. Gameplay alters between messy and fun to messy and not so fun. The maze level is legendary for its notorious coop stopping ability. Some decent midi tracks and new graphics make for a few memmorable scenes. 3/5 stars. -Johnsenx

If you like TNT Evilution well you'll like this. I think this is better than TNT:E and the themes evolve more consistantly. I really liked the music in this pack. This should provide hours of challenging gameplay. -PC 4/5x

I hate having to cheat to get through stupid switch puzzles. Just gimmie the stupid yellow key already! I don't have to play Doom to run around in circles pressing buttons. 0 stars.x

It's kind of fun. There were a couple of interesting levels in this megawad. I enjoyed this a lot more than its sequel, Deadalus. 4/5x

Amazing WAD, it got me back into DOOM and I love the level designs. I like the musics, some are spooky and theres the main theme which I like quite a lot. x

Masses of replayability - still as much fun now as when it was released. Should have been one of the compet-n pwads.x
Anonymous
Hmm,. good fight gameplay but in several levels it's annoying what you have to do in puzzles and running aorund. I was stuborn to finish it though even though I cheated a lot because of this. I have a headache now lol. 4/5 - Optimusx

disappointingly ugly. :(x

The music alone deserves 5 stars. Kick-ass shit.x

Well said bro. I'd give the big five for the music alone, though the maps would go underrated then. It's all very cool, the maps make sense and are made in the realistic branch of Doom map making. If you liked TNT, this is for you. If you're looking for more Plutonia-esque action thuogh, you still might wanna check this out. All said, it's by Team TNT, it's still great despite it's grey hair. In other words-a classic. Enough babble, five.x

I've always loved this. The music is among my favourite.x

Excellent work. I remember when I first came to Doomworld, this was the first wad I downloaded. It is still as fun today to me as it was then. 5/5.x

Well, unlike most of people here, I didn't like Icarus that much. While the levels pack a great plot, they are not that interesting per se. The spaceship design was a new thing in '96, but even back than they didn't look great. The gameplay was a very mixed bag for me, and the levels are very underditailed, some of them are, actually pretty hideous, essentially single-textured (silver) and thus look very drab. It pales in comparison to MM and Evilution was a notch better IMO as well. A 3 from me.x

I remember playing this WAD back in the day, and looking at it, now it seems to be a 1994-style WAD but with incredible gameplay ... even though the detail isn't as good as, say, Eternal Doom, the gameplay and nostalgia more than make up for it and make this megaWAD worth a five.x
Anonymous
I remember playing this wad a long, long time ago, and... wow. I forgot it still existed. I'm glad for it, I loved it back in the day, and now it's time to beat the crud outta it.x
Anonymous
I have fond memories of playing this megawad years ago, and only recently have I beaten it. Having said that, this megawad is legendary. Great level design and gameplay, interesting themes, and I like how you're constantly going from the ship to the planet below. You really feel like an unwary passenger aboard the Icarus as it takes you to hell and back. A must download. **** x

I played Icarus on Zdaemon and I instantly fell in love with it.Unlike the Build series Icarus bore the true meaning of Doom. To scare the shit out of you. x
Anonymous
Don't like it that much.x

Probably the mod I like the best, because of how it succeeded in getting me back to DOOMing after a long rest. I like the storyline very much, and how the levels reflect it with great consistency throughout. The music, with not one doubt, is the very greatest I've ever listened to in a DOOM mod, and I can say I've played many!x
Anonymous
despite the fact that some levels use little varitetys of textures (only about 3 or 4), this wad still uses lots of new textures, and has a constant theme going. the music is classic too! especially for maps 2,5,12,15,22,30,and 31. pure genius! this game is probably second or third best, (after eternal doom and requiem.) a must download!x
Anonymous
Great and big levels, just now I've finished all of thm and they BIG!!! Team TNT, you have perfect and great WADs. 5/5-- SSWolfenSiex

I am not impressed. Eternal kept me going, but Icarus: AV didn't.x

Some levels do not look that good but gameplay is there at every level. Oh, and remember this is 32 levels big, so it will keep you occupied for quite some time!x
