Pretty darn good.x

Eh, it's alright. A few good maps but the rest of the set is either mediocre or filler. Cool use of 3D floors and whatnot but visually inconsistent with some maps looking good while others kind of crappy. Combat is easy and boring.x

A timeless classic.x

An okay pack. Not very challenging though a lot of the maps look nice, though quite a few of them feel weak or like filler maps. I prefer Memento Mori over this. x

Superior for the time.Liked a lot.x

A good mapset; despite some dud levels (MAP12, MAP27) it shows a good variety, and most maps look and play at least quite well. It doesn't really live up to megawads such as Memento Mori but is a solid, fun set in its own right. x
Anonymous
Difficult to rate. Obviously it's made in 1997 thus needs to be rated as such, but IMHO most of the maps are simply not worth a play. And the better ones are, except for a few maps, lightyears behind that other 1997 wad which *did* set standards: Eternal DooM, so it definitely is not 5* legendary. Very small 4* because of some good ideas and the effort, but overall it's just plain legacy. x

you look back at this one and you see rather balanced maps (except MAP24) and some neat Doom tricks. back in the day, this shit was quite surprising to see, now everyone doesn't care anymore as substance over style now that Doom Builder rules the modern mapsets. play for the nostalgia.x
Anonymous
Maps from Matthias Worch, Thomas Moeller, Adam Windsor, Eric Sambach, and Dario Casali are worth playing. Adelusion's and Iikka Keranen's maps all fall into the "style over substance" category, and have aged poorly because of it. Mixed bag, and doesn't quite hold up to the likes of Final Doom, and the Memento Morisx
Anonymous
Probably the most aesthetically impressive mapset from the 90's. Too bad the level theming is inconsistent (in the case of map12, inconsistent within itself), and Gameplay is largely hit and miss. I recommend playing 4, 6, 9, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 28 and 29, and giving the rest of the megawad a skip. Memento Mori 2 is overall better.x
Anonymous
What you get when Memento Mori and Dystopia have a baby. Though the gameplay isn't quite as consistently good, with some maps coming off as boring. That said, Dario Casali's Hatred is among my favourite 90's maps, so that gives the megawad an extra point.x
Anonymous
"Considerably better than both MM wads" Really? Because I thought Requiem was more of a mixed bag. The only maps in Requiem I felt were just as fun as the MMs were D Casali's, T Moeller's, and Worch's. On the other hand Keranen's maps come off as graphics over gameplay(ie, they look good, but are boring), and Windsor's maps are too fillerish. Do I think Requiem is bad? No. But better than the MMs? Hell no.x
Anonymous
Considerably better than both MM wads. REQUIEM should be on everyone's 'must-play-this-befo re-I-die' list.x
Anonymous
I'd give this a minimum of 4*. It has several flaws. But it's a really strong wad for its time. The Demonfear like maps are filler, but IMO they don't really disrupt the game enough to take any points off, I don't see why people are obsessed with these. The main cons are a lack of any real thematic progression (but the MMs were the same) and several maps that inevitably hold up marginally by today's standards. Still I think even for 2015 this would be 'average' and the date bumps it up a point.x
Anonymous
A spiritual successor to the Memento Mori duology. While the maps are prettier and showcase some cool vanilla tricks, the gameplay itself falls a bit short compared to MMs. The demonfear-esque maps from Adam Windsor don't help, either.x
Anonymous
Not easy but very satisfying. This is what level design should be. Wonderful. I highly recommend accompanying this with its music wad, available separately.x

A classic! Still fun after all those years!x

The first megawad I ever played. It's possibly starting to look its age, but really AV is the only megawad which plays better than this. Gameplay is preferable to the Hell Revealeds/Scythes as it is not quite as monster spammy so people can get into it and enjoy it without being stressed. Co-op is almost totally broken in some maps, not a problem these days but back in the day it was a pain in the arse. A wonderful introduction to Doom and a reminder of where the Doom Community came from.x
Memfis
best wad ever along with mm2x
Marcaek
I don't really see what's so special about this really. Lots of large, hallwayish maps with obstructive detailing, everything looks so drab and samey. There are some really cool vanilla mapping tricks but this pales in comparison to either Memento Mori. Favorite authors would probably be Windsor or Czerwonka, but Dario beats everyone with Map23. Keranen really could have done with less railroading of progression and sticking high tier monsters in tight spaces where they can't harm you.x

Timeless classic. If you happen to find Hell Revealed too hard and Eternal Doom too long and confusing, this is the way to go. x
Anonymous
This is an outstanding mapset! It beats any other classic megawad, including Memento Mori! Most of the maps were pretty easy and short (with the exception of MAP23 which was damned hard and took me a lot of tries to beat). The design is very nice as well! A truly masterpiece. 5/5 -Doomer95x
Anonymous
I find the overall standard to be above the first Memento Mori, and yet again, you've got to honor its age and you can't just rate this type of stuff like it came out from 2013. Most of the filler isn't necessarily that bad; it just seems out of place due to shortness, bu it's not unforgivable. I'm torn between a 4 or 5 (elevated from a 3 or 4 due to its age, and rightfully so), but it has more maps I found quite interesting compared to MM, so I'll give it 5. Again, you have to play it at least once.x
Anonymous
Excellent MegaWAD! But someone should make a dehacked patch for this to display levels name on automap when played in Vanilla Doom. Anyway this is the best classic mapset, I give 5*x

Nowhere near as good as such 90's classics as the Memento Moris, Icarus, Eternal Doom, Final Doom, or Hell Revealed. This has plenty of decent maps, but also quite a few instances of boring maps and even some garbage filler, which unfortunately plagues the second half of the megawad particularly.x

This wad is better than good it's great. Definitely one of the all time greats. x

Good. But not one of the all time greats.x
Anonymous
A classic megawad with some very memorable levels that offer plenty of innovation. Regrettably, the quality is not consistent throughout the wad. There are some rather questionable level design flaws. What really pissed me off was MAP17. Some of the areas that are required to beat the level, can only be accessed by finding some random walls which turn out to be a door, as if it were a secret. I wish to feed that level designer to my Caco flock.x

thank youx
Anonymous
First two thirds are mostly good. Final third is hit or miss. Map 20, 26, and 32 seriously feel like the authors ran out of ideas, so they took some deathmatch maps, added in keys and monsters, and hoped for the best.x
Anonymous
a wad that a lot of doomer consider as exceptional, they are right it's exceptional in mediocrity.1/5x
Anonymous
Some gapfiller maps are short and easy (e.g. maps 20, 25, 26). "Hatred" (map 23) is probably the hardest of them - which isn't a surprise since it's from Plutonia expert Casali, after that it gets easier again. Keep in mind that this is from 1997, and lots of the featured architecture is remarkable for that time, especially the contributions by Keršnen. If you can accept some weaker maps, you'll have a great 10-15 hours of entertainment. 5/5 - NightFrightx
Anonymous
Very good up until map 11 or so, but after that, especially towards the end, it goes downhill, some of the later maps are horrible. OK I realize it was fantastic back then, but still overrated. Parts of it are just downright frustrating. However, for the first third of the maps alone, it gets a 4/5 from me.x
Anonymous
^ agreed, too much "filler" and mediocore maps in here, 2/5!x

A good megawad, but very irregular. There are very good maps (e.g. 13, 15, 24), but there are horrible too, and at the end of the set, which is worse (20,25,26). Final map is a too short and easy icon of sin, inappropriate. Funny, but not a masterpiece 4/5x

shinning, lewlsx
Anonymous
Back in '97, this was without doubt a 5/5 megawad. Now, late 2010, this still slaughters all but a very few attempts at wad making and is a shinning light to any wannabe creator. The only bad thing I can say is that there was no sequel. Score; an easy 5/5 *****x
Anonymous
Great classic megawad featuring some of the greatest mappers from the early days of doom. Best levels are 1-6, 8, 9, 15, 31, 16, 17, 21-24, and 29, but many of the others are very good too. x
Anonymous
Pretty good for the most part. Level designs are top notch, and pretty fun to have a blast in. You can tell they were influenced by the Memento Mori's and Plutonia Experiment. Unfortunately there are a few maps that are disappointing. maps 20, 25, 26, and 32 for example, are far too small and short for my liking, and probably would've better suited being much earlier in the megawad.x
Anonymous
Excellent wad!!!!!!!!!!!!x

This is THE BEST megawad ever created, in my opinion. Better than Memento Mori's, Hell Revealed, Alien Vendetta etc. They just don't make great classic WADs like this anymore, pity. For 1997, this one was just unbelievable. Even today, Requiem looks amazing. Almost perfect in every way - level design, mapset, textures, atmosphere, music, difficulty etc. -, so don't miss it! A must play for everyone, whether you like DooM or not! 5*/5x
Anonymous
This was - possibly - the first megawad to equal or even surpass MM2. Even with a little filler later on and some inconsistencies, Requiem is still a staple without a doubt. In some ways it may even be the best wad of 1997, for those who found Eternal Doom too switch-hunty.x

well of course i'm going to vote 5 stars... what else am i going to vote, a billion stars?x

Very solid mapset. Recommended. ~vfx

This MUST be the greatest megaWAD ever made. Not only does it achieve the spectacular gameplay and level design of modern releases (e.g. Alien Vendetta), but it accomplishes this by using the crappy level editors that were available back in 1997. Awesome atmosphere and great music too :)x

hmm... certainly a good wad, but it is dull at times. 3/5x

Playing through this as a level designer was a humbling experience, as it still destroys most wads made in 2010. And to think these guys did this in '97! Definitely a must-play! 5/5!!!x
Anonymous
The first half or so of this megawad is top notch, well designed, atmospheric and generally a lot of fun. It's a real shame that many later levels taper off into cheap and outright lame territory at times. 4/5. Worth playing through but I wouldn't care to play through the later levels again. x

Fantastic!! Great megawad!! x
Anonymous
Only a fuckin idiot would give this anything below 5/5!! One of the wads that murder every single doom level set made after 2005!x
Anonymous
Brilliant fucking stuff. Much better than Alien Vendetta because it's got more consistantly good levels. x
Anonymous
For any fault this wad has, there's something to make up for it. It contains some of my favorite maps of all-time, and also some frustrating maps. I'd say it hasn't aged as well as HR as the gameplay gets repetitive without ever being that challenging. I don't really mind the filler levels, but Map27 is just downright tedious. tl;dr version: Redundant gameplay, good architecture. 4/5 -Snakesx
Anonymous
I'd personally recommend the Memento Mori's over this. Requiem is cool and all, but the filler maps prevent this from being a favourite of mine. 4/5x
Anonymous
I'm starting to think this WAD might actually have some competition with Alien Vendetta... Also, "MAP31: Doorway to Quake"? That's very clever. It needs a few more songs, though. Other than that, great work. x

This was the first megawad I've ever played (or ever seen?). When I'm in the mood (you know, when you suddenly remember some parts of maps and you HAVE to play them again!) I still replay it. I don't think it needs more explanation :)x

Just compare this with any wad made in 1997 and you will see this is by far the best. Now compare it to some of the great wads of today and it still beats most of them hands down. This is possible because of the team of dedicated people who made it - Doom lovers that know what is required to satisfy the Doom lovers need, and my needs were, and still are fulfilled with this great timeless masterpiece. 5/5 all day long.x

After playing through numerous megawads developed throughout the history of Doom, Requiem came out on top without contest. Not even the Memento Mori's and Alien Vendetta could hold a candle to this one. Seriously, folks: anyone who hasn't already played Requiem has no more excuses! Play this megawad and see Doom wad creation at its absolute perfection! With Regards: -Eisenfaust86 x

One of the best megawads (among the large waste of crap) for the game. That makes it sound better than it actually is tho, because the stuff to compare with is sparse. Gameplay is rather cramped and akward at times, but the design touch greatness in some of the maps which make up for alot. These authors formed a solid team, and the final product will probably always stand as one of the finest in a rather quality deprived scene. 4/5 stars. -Johnsenx

For it's time, a pretty nice set of levels one of the few 32 replacements worth playing throughout. That is if you overlook map 20, 32 or other fillerish crap... I'd say it's objectively deserving of 4/5 for it's quality. -Giulliettax

This isn't perhaps the very best MW, but it has a unique place in my heart. High and consistent quality throughout makes it a definite must, whether you're an old school doomer or a zdoom freak.Great maps: 03(must play), 28,31&24(if you are a gothic-quake freak like me you'll love these 3), 21, 02, 11, 06, 08&14(two succesful attempts at realism in doom!). Maps 20,32,25,26 sucked, obvious filler maps included due to time constraint, and 27 just was boring, the others were good. 5/5. -TeH NeXuS.x

Requiem and eternal doom are IMO the best 2 megawads of all time. Stuff like AV, Cchest, NDCP, and all those megawads just don't hold this one a candle. And this was made in '97! A minor complaint: It's a curious fact that the 2nd half of the set has some obviously misplaced, thrown in levels, however the first half is practically faultless, the maps are just perfect.Period. When someone makes this good a mapset, I'll be glad to play it, until then, it remains an unbeaten full megawad!x

I have not played a better megawad in 10 years, I tell you. I wonder if anything can beat it. You have projects like Knee Deep In ZDoom with lots of scripting, effects and other ZDoom stuff, and you see, it's nothing compared to Requiem which is pure Doom. - Zajomanx

this (with both gothic dm megawads) my favorite ever doom wad. i always play this one and always dream of doing maps like this :-) p.dx

As everyone else has said, this wad is definitely a classic, as much as the MM series is. This wad has the same idea (32 good levels by various authors) but pumps up the theming and detail over the MM series. In 2007, 10 years after this wad's 1997 release, some of the maps obviously look a bit dated, but even today, they're almost all pretty good. And they play great too. Easily a top 10 megawad of all time, and 5/5 is an obvious given.x
Anonymous
This is one of the best megawads ever assembled on this planet! I have to agree with the third review about some of the maps being "uneven". There were a few maps that were too hard for me. Aside from that, I'm willing to give this a 5/5 since the music was cool.x

I really have fond memories of this one. It was pretty much the first custom megawad that impressed me. Medium difficulty, very detailed with amazing custom textures, and highly atmosferic designs. Many authors worked on this, and each of them brought his personal style into the episode,so it's very varied in style. But I like this approach more than tightly packed episodes where every level has to be in the same style to "fit together".I guess it's a matter of taste. 5/5 from me.x

Awesome-this megawad rocks.x

As a gamesplayer - and not as a level designer trying to show off - I thought this was super and I still do. If there are any texture errors I don't care, I was having too much fun shooting things. Level two looks lovely in JDoom and level 31 is a more-or-less exact copy of one of Quake's early levels. Five stars.x
Anonymous
Sorry, but this Megawad is ugly as hell, and you can't say it's the age. It was ugly in 1997, and it's still ugly in 2006. First I thought I should give 3 stars, but since I didn't play all the maps, I suppose they are better and give 4. (The reason I didn't play all the maps, was the ugliness of the texture combinations -> *shivers*)x

An exceptional megawad. A lot of the levels were great IMO but map 30 was easy as pie. A megawad that starts easy and ends easy after all the hard parts is one of those megawads I like. -dljosefx

One of the five all-time greats alongside the Memento Mori's, Alien Vendetta, and Hell Revealed, though this might be the weakest of the five. This is mostly because the levels are *very* uneven in style, quality, difficulty and size. But it still contains some of Doom's best ever levels from the likes of Iiika Keränen and Adelusion.
