Awesome design. Nice mugshot. Confusing maps.x

Eternal BoreDoom. Another overrated ghetto 90's WAD with plenty of terrible design decisions. 1/5 for, uh, effort.x
Anonymous
The puzzle elements may be an acquired taste, but its pretty much the best megawad from the 90's. The music and textures really add to the atmosphere. x

Very fun to play. I can't say enough about the gameplay and the intricate level design. There are A few cosmetic issues with the presentation: 1. The installation does an iwad merge, so if you are running it in a source port, you may want to run eternal.wad through slade or something to remove the duplicated iwad graphics. 2. Most of the replacement sound effect replacements sound worse than the originals. 3. The sprite and fireball replacements for the Imp are very ugly.x

Excellent level design--some levels are rather bland, but the medieval levels more than make up for it with great architecture. However, the puzzles on some maps are downright ridiculously obscure (unmarked doors, very hard-to-see switches, etc. all this on giant maps which may take well over a hour to finish.) MAP30 perhaps takes the cake with its utterly ridiculous, confusing puzzles, and pretty much ruined the finale for me. Still worth seeing, for the huge, well-crafted levels alone. x

I don't know about you but running around for half an hour completely stuck as what to do in a map isn't my idea of a good time. I can't shake the feeling that if the maps were smaller they'd be better either. Also, switch and key hunts never fly, we really should've cracked down on that shit from the start.x

One of few wads which really can bring me back to playing doom :Px

F*cknourmous levels... 'nuff said.x

i mean really, who hasn't used at least parts of the fuckin awesome eternal graphix pack in their own WADS? probably everybody who was anybody did. Im fact, that gives me a new idea for my next WAD mashup ``ETernal DOOM IV: Revenge Of The Flemoids''!!!! Too much?x
Anonymous
Went from playing this in crappy CGA under DOS circa 1998 to PRBOOM at 1024*768 circa December 2013. as a result It's even better now than it was when I first found this WAD on some local BBS back in '98. Only giving it four stars because I, too, had to "hack" parts of it in Doom Builder to make it more playable (solvable) Otherwise a good effort, even 15 years later. It'll probably hold up for another 15.x

I used to really hate Eternal Doom for being so fucking huge. I look back now and I really appreciate the size of it as well as the exploration and non-linear aspects of it. I wish there were more megaWAD's of this size and magnitude. I'd give it 10 stars if it were possible.x

Great wad!x
Anonymous
It's still as great as I remember it. Huge vast levels with an emphasis on puzzles and challenging secrets. The first 15 levels are sublimely designed, but the second half isn't quite up to the same standard set earlier. The last level however is an excellent finish. If you haven't played Eternal yet, then you must! Despite a few average levels later on, I can't give this less than 5 stars. -TRRobin.x

beautiful classicx
Anonymous
Quite inspirational in terms of architecture, but a bit dated in the look of more than one level. The very first maps are unnecessarily tedious and might discourage most players from progressing. Overall, a moderately adviced play. *** >Lupex

If you like to be stuck with no clue what to do, this is the wad for you. 7 levels in I've had to watch a video to move on for nearly every one.x
Anonymous
I can't believe this is an old school pWAD!!! Still one of the best!x
Anonymous
Very good up until MAP 12, quite a downhill afterwards. It's a nice and unique wad but 32 immense levels with endless switch hunting are just a bit too much. Should've ended after MAP 12.x
Anonymous
Just spent over two hours on the most obscure switch hunt bullshit on map31 and decided to put this one down and not come back to it. The levels aren't even that huge they just take ages due to the inane puzzles.x
Anonymous
I've got 512 characters to warn you that in many levels you'll spend more time banging on random objects trying find a route to the exit than actually fighting demons. You HAVE to find false walls and shoot/hit concealed switches. The wad is beautiful, but many designers didn't know where to draw the line when it came to gimmicks and concealment of requisite areas, thus interrupting and annihilating gameplay. Nagel's soundtrack, though, is top notch, so play it for that. You're in it for the long haul.x
Anonymous
this wad is just classic x
Anonymous
Simply a masterpiece. Levels are fun to explore, looks absolutely astonishing, and generally offers great gameplay. If I could, I'd have given it 6/5 for actually doing a fun and original map30, instead of lazily doing yet another IoS sequel.x
Anonymous
level desing is outstanding but the map are too huge and switch hunt is boring.x
Anonymous
Even 4 stars out of 5 is underrated. Now, roughly 14 years after its release it's still barely matched by any of our days' wads. This enormous beast remains the ultimate classic wad in my eyes. So ahead of its time, even though the graphics/textures look really aged by now, it's still pleasant to look at. The only wad that rivails this in terms of epicness is AV. 5*/5 - perfect.x
Anonymous
I love Couleur/Landefeld/Kv ernmo maps - they are soooo beautiful and epic, and I hate Flynn/Evans mindfucking installations. So my average score is "4".x

Great stuff; one of the best.x

very goodx
Anonymous
Good but very fucking long, and I had to cheat three times to get through some of the worst puzzles. Combination and timing stuff always does my head in, but it has a great atmosphere and superb soundtrack.x

This map set is not intended for a quick play-through. It requires learning each map and figuring out how best to beat it. If you like your maps big and complex, then this is for you. 5/5x
Anonymous
The level size is ludicrous, especially considering the amount of switch and key hunts that make these huge maps take longer to complete than they ever needed to.x
Anonymous
If you are not a fan of "find the hidden switch" puzzles then this wad will annoy the crap out of you. If you are then there are better games for it that DOOM. I would say get this wad just for the music, but no need as the music has been released separately.x
Anonymous
One of the most atmospheric megawads ever. There is a good reason it is called Eternal, the maps are enormous and even the earlier ones might take up to 30 mins to complete the first time. The textures, graphics, envirionments and even the music (which is great) are highly reminescent to the game HeXen, so much that this game is actually HeXen with a space marine instead of wizards/knights :) I also love the HUD, the new sound effects and how they changed the imps' looks a bit. Obviously an 5/5 classic!x
Anonymous
In terms of architecture and design, this wad (at least most of the levels in it) was so far ahead of its time that no words in the English language could truly describe it. Sadly, the gameplay on some levels is a bit more hit or miss due to the many, many puzzles that could be considered highly complex even by today's standards - but still, if you can put up with that it has no other faults, and I don't hestitate to give 5 stars.x
Anonymous
played this with the dos menu back in the day. one of the earlier maps involving the time travel device is simply... a loss for words! 5/5x

If you have the time (about 49 hours), then this is a must-play. These are among the best of the "gigantic" style of levels ever created.x

Nothing like this will ever be done again. A masterpiece set of levels for the thinking man!x

Jim Flynn's levels are the most epic maps I've played in the history of all things video game related. ~vfx

Map12 saw me melted to death after jumping to grab the yellow key only to find no escape after falling down the pit, certainly a risky wad to be playing with no quicksaves but an excellent playthrough nevertheless. The huge nature of the levels has not affected the gameplay at all, each level is equally enjoyable all the way through. A playthrough from beginning to end with this on Chocolate Doom or Vanilla is something no doomer should miss! 5/5x
Anonymous
level desin is ggreat, but custom monsters and hud sucks.x
Anonymous
A giant map is good only if it is linear and keeps the player from having to backtrack all around a gigantic map. Because of the non-linearity of these huge maps, it doesn't feel like a straightforward adventure, it feels like a chore.x
Anonymous
Great graphics, good use of atmospheric detail, very well made. Wasn't as hard as I had hoped but is way better than most others I've played. x
Anonymous
I liked it - COOL - TimeOfDeathx
Anonymous
Sure, a huge complex map is okay if there's maybe only one or two of them in a mapset, you could possibly get away with even three. But 32 fucking levels of that kind of shit?x
Anonymous
If it were me, I'd give it Five Cacowards instead of five stars.x
Anonymous
It was just a nightmare. Running all the way across a several mile long map just to find out I need a key all the way back on the other side and to get that key I have run all the way across the map AGAIN to hit a switch that needs another key all the way in some bullshit corner that needs 3 keys to get to. And then there are 32 maps of that same crap.x
Anonymous
5/5, especially seeing as this came out in '97!!!x
Anonymous
You'd have to be ludicrous aswell as biased not give this sexy behemoth an automatic 5. Yes the puzzles will irritate and really challenge your depth of perception but the gargantuac, expansive, non-linear design coupled with the first use of huge, immersive, illusionary architecture was an unprecedented expection for 1997. Eternal isn't just a highly ambitious megawad, but an entity of it's own. Not to mention it'd be awesome in 'Survival Coop' with the amount of space. 5/5 - B.Krypto.x

Nice for a vanilla WAD. CyberSweeper was cool. Gameplay really drags on in places though; I'd expect a seasoned crew like this to not thoughtlessly jam monsters everywhere, but they did, with no cohesive flow. The maps themselves--put simply, switch hunting in huge dark areas gets old really quickly. Felt like filler. Also, the snobbery about reusing their resources was odd, seeing how they included stuff from Doom, Hexen, etc. Copyright infringement is okay for TeamTNT, but not the rest of us, I suppose.x
Anonymous
Wonderfully detailed, but over-the-top with its difficulty. The maps are ridiculously huge, the challenges are complicated to the point of insanity...each level just drags on and on. Not really my kind of thing. If you like WADs with gigantic maps and over-the-top challenges, then this is the WAD for you.x
Anonymous
Classic level set. Far beyond the expectations of it's time. And still looks nice to this day.x

One of the best megawads ever done. Beautiful maps, a lot of enemies, semi-puzzle and lineal, medieval stetic, .... Eternal, 5/5x

Yeah, it's confusing, but I think they're a lot of fun to learn. I used to hate some of these maps, but after learning them in an editor they became some of my favourite. Don't be lazy!x
Anonymous
Beautifully designed levels, but it's never clear where you should go next (to the point that I can't finish half of them simply because I get lost), and they can be very sparse and boring to play. 3/5x

Eternal is awesome. However its too much to do in one play through. I do about one map and call it quits after around level 8-10+. I only give legendary stars to legendary wads. 5/5x
Anonymous
This deserves five stars. Period.x
Anonymous
One of the all-time classics. Level design and architecture is mostly above-par for its time (and not bad at all for today) and the huge levels filled with nearly 100% new textures make it truely look and feel like a different, medival world, with mostly Doom monsters preventing it from seeming like an entirely different game. There's tons of hard puzzles and with so many big maps, it's sure to keep you entertained for a long time. While sometimes frustrating, I definitely enjoyed it. 5/5x

WOW..WHAT..A..WAD!! its freakin huge! i love the status bar its BAD ASS!! yeh i mean the final levels are just like wow.....HUGE! i think that if they were to release a sequal it would be even more epic then this one if thats even possible!!!x

I was never a big fan of E.D. I could mention the neverending switch hunts, the annoying, unplesant gameplay, the dullness of many of the levels and the way Sverres maps stick out as far supreme and make the rest look even more mediocre then they are. The wad is worth playing only because of Kvernemo's map04, 05 and 12. And even those architecturally grand maps suffer from a mundane gameplay. New sounds and graphics just made it look like a weird version of heretic. 3/5 -Johnsenx

These are examples of the levels why I still love Doom next to some of those new and "fantastic" shooters. I grew up on this game and Quake and the guys who made these levels and the others who make other really good ones, keep me Doomin with their work. Thank you. 5/5x

Well, even if I don't like hexen style puzzles, these maps more than make up for it with impressive size and gothic architecture (my favorite style). Map 12 is my personal fav and kinda sums up what this MW is all about. Year of creation: 1997!!! Would you believe it? It's a classic and it shouldn't be overlooked by anyone looking for awesome doom levels. -TeH NeXuSx

Re: I dont see why everyone likes this wad it really sux im not even kidding dude i just get to bored with it quickly Fuck you this is 5/5x
Anonymous
Phew! These levels are complex! I mean, do you need to be a mathematician to finish map 20 or what? Despite the fact that the levels will exasperate you with puzzles you'll have to admit that the design and complexity are nothing short of breathtaking! This and requiem (both created in '97!!!) are still for me the role-model megawads which the creators of modern day projects could only dream of making. Who needs community chest?x
Anonymous
Damn fucking good. If you didn't download this already I pity you.x

An epic adventure, so much better than the overused gun and gun idea.x

This is an amazing megawad IMO, although it may not suite everyones taste. It contains 32 new levels, most of which are enormous and complex (and some ultra-complex), practically all new textures, and of course, new music. The architecture is good (especially for 1997), and I found the gameplay fun, since I don't mind huge, puzzling levels, but those who do mind such levels will find this VERY frustrating. In my opinion, it gets a 5/5, but those who don't like huge and/or complex maps should stay away.x
Anonymous
Not bad, but it can be really frustrating at times. My time went well over an hour in some levels because I was pressing switches and had to run around the whole place trying to find out what it did, and some of these levels are massive. Also, some of the things you have to do to progress in a level would be considered a secret in any other WAD. But I will give credit for some very nice looking maps, some clever puzzles, and good fights. 3/5. x
Anonymous
Extensive and well designed, but a little dated. Also, the new sounds are annoying. I suggest using the Doom3 sounds wad to fix this problem.x
Anonymous
It's really good...but a few of the levels (31&20) are so long, so boring, and so puzzling that I had to skip them. Also, playing this in the day is impossible due to the darkness. Still, a very solid Megawad. 4/5x

I was a bit intimidated when I unzipped this; at first it looks like one of those pre-source port mods that has to be patched up in order for it to work. Thankfully it seems to run fine if you just load up Eternall.wad. I can understand the plaudits. The first three levels are awful, but after that it turns into a set of gorgeous, large-scale levels with a Hexen/Heretic flavour. It's ferociously tricky.x
Anonymous
incredible. 5/5x
Anonymous
First level shows potential, but then it starts on 2nd map with no way out.x
Anonymous
Excellent level design but too many times switches are hidden either with confusing textures designed to camouflage them or in some case, hidden in areas which would normally be considered secret areas. Too often you get "trapped" somewhere and spend a long time walking around looking for a hidden switch which takes all the fun out of it. Unless you either watch the demo's or have a WAD editing tool, chances are you'll have no clue what to do.x

an awsome level set! truely classic, and the final level, level 30 is incredibly long, it took me over 2 hours to beat it! the music is good too, but the only problem is that the length of each music track is an average of 2 minutes. since the maps are so big, i think the music should've been extended to be longer. that still doesn't hurt the raiting for this megawad. this is THE best work on a megawad. 11 outta 10 stars!!!!x
Anonymous
lots of game time in it. its more than twice as long as the original doom. its high quality and just overall amazing. and most mapas take up to a half hour to complete. eternal doom is what WAD's are suppose to be like.x

mostly boring and ugly (textures), some nice spots and nice puzzles, 3/5x

The best of the vanilla TeamTNT wads. Some levels just cover a huge amount of map area. Nearly every level is spot on for sure. -pc x

I absolutely love this WAD. TeamTNT makes the best WADs ever, and Eternal Doom III is certainly their best. I'd go as far to say that this should have been Final Doom, rather than The Plutonia Experiment + TNT: Evilution.x

This is,IMHO, THE megawad of Doom! It has it all: the ubelievable architecture, the gameplay, the ingenious tricks, fantastic theming and atmosefere, completely new texture sheme. Despite being so detailed the levels are actually 4 times bigger than the stock Doom maps. The set is just better than any other in some many things that it makes any other set pale in comparison, for me. It's not an easy ride, the puzzles are sometimes very hexenish, and the levels are really exhausting, but it's a must. 6/5!x

Utterly brilliant, but the levels way, way, way too long and puzzle-like. I never did figure out map30. --Wooliex

This is one of those WADs where you become immersed in a map, and forget time and space!... I actually managed to beat all the maps, except one, in under one hour (each, heh) the first time around, but I was often lucky, and stumbled upon the correct path. The architecture is unlike any other WAD I've seen... Coleur's intricate castle designs and Sverre's maps in particular are a must-play! Even though "Eternal Doom" isn't in my top ten of WADs, it is still legendary. --5/5x

Level 12 is absolutely insane, considering it's a level 12, and not a level 29 or 30 ... I love solving the puzzles, like finding all the switches to raise the yellow key in level 12. Very good idea ... I wish I could figure out how to make it raise little by little like that ... On the first truly castle level (the one which pits you against a cyber and a spider in the same room) I had to use wadauthor probably three times to figure out what to do. Absolutely my favorite megawad, 7/5.x

the best wad i've ever played! the first few levels are big, but when you get to maps such as maps 9/12/19!!!!!!(which is the largest of them all)/20/22/25/26/and 30, you can't help but wonder how much work it took to make these massive, massive,, yet incredibly breathtaking maps. the music rocks too. the maps made by jim flin, 25/26/and 31 were puzzle solving maps and were hard to solve, but when i got through them, i wanted more! download this game, it rocks!!!!!!trust me. you won't be boredx

What can I say? This is (I.M.O.) the BEST Doom 2 PWAD ever made. Great music; nice, professionally designed levels that keep your brain active, and what can I say - If I had to choose one PWAD to keep on my hard disk (if I did not have 120 GB :-D) it would be this one. I would even go to say that this PWAD is better than the original Doom 2 IWAD (Stock).x

Easily the best of the best, TeamTNT does it again. Some of those techniques were excellent -- how did you get that bridge to work in MAP31?? --MechWarrior Jake Prydex

Eternal Doom is the BIGGEST Doom megawad ever. The levels are absolutely huge and have fantastic atmosphere and details. On the other hand, hunting for switches in these vast levels can be a HUGE pain in the ass sometimes. I remember that I had to resort to a level editor to figure out how to proceed in one level and still couldn't do it, so I cheated... You probably shouldn't try to play Eternal too much at a time to avoid frustration. It'll take you an Eternity to complete :-)x

Really friggin huge, so huge in fact that it leaves you feeling physically exhausted after slogging through some of the more massive levels. But it's got excellent gameplay and it looks great, except for some of the new custom textures which can be kind of lame. Plus it's got three levels from Sverre in it! GO SVERRE!! But yeah, certainly one of the best megawads around and highly recommended.x
