+1. SP is where it is for me nowadays.

How Do I Write Multiple Lines With (exittext) in Slade3?

When using the modern MAPINFO format with curly braces, make each line a separate quoted string and separate them with commas. In the old format without braces (absolutely not recommended!) you have to enclose the entire thing, including line feeds into a single pair of quotation marks.

What are your fav and least fav or hated doom textures?

My least favorite: Clearly the Doom 2 "city" textures like windows etc. My favorite ones: Those which even look nice when you construct larger structures out of them. BROWNGRN is a good example for this. And those Plutonia brick textures are surprisingly versatile, they work for tech maps, for cities but also for more hellish or abstract fare.

What port, what definition lump? SLADE only provides the editor here, but what's relevant is the file you want to put this in.

That works if lots of your customers are sheep. See Apple for an example. But even they aren't immune - see the recent episode about their $999 monitor stand. There's lots of people who do not like this kind of thing so it may easily backfire if your naming/pricing/whatever of the product and customer expectations do not align.

Running away? goodbye Not every game needs multiplayer. I just want a good single player experience and this seems promising

jazzmaster9, Doomslayers skins for Battle Mode is now available for MONEY. Do you know it, no? Where you was? You can't talk from Doom community too. You told how you don't care about MP in Doom Eternal, that do you trying to tell me now? LoL, "champion of forum fights". P.S. I finished with you. Go to ingore.

"fantasy combat puzzle" describes doom new and old

I donțt get it. Why would you need to save it for later if you can get 50-80 health back from a glory kill? What exactly is the point of these pickups anymore?

What are your fav and least fav or hated doom textures?

I love all of Plutonia's brick textures. There's lots of variety to their colors, they fit well in a lot of situations, and they can look good even if mass painted over an entire structure as long as a little bit of care is taken. One minor gripe is that they are divided into sixths by default, which makes them hard to align at heights other than 64 or 128, but "fixed" versions are pretty easy to find. Good shit right here: On the exact opposite hand, I am not a fan at all of most of TNT's custom textures. Many of them look very amateurish, they frequently clash with the rest of the environment around them, and many of them suffer from artifacts from their conversion to Doom's palette. Now to me this actually helps to add a bit to TNT's charm, but none of them could be used seriously in a modern mapset in my opinion (feel free to prove me wrong).

You obviously don't know how much money companies get from Multiplayer Skins and Perks... MUCH more than single player. you have NO idea what you are talking about... just an angry kid who's mad he can't get what he wants. Im sorry but your 12 Steam Friends don't count for the Majority of the Doom community Where did you get this 8 hours thing? You're delusional. sad to see you fall for the EA trap of having Multiplayer on EVERYTHING.

    What's your playing style?

As it currently stands my skill level only allows me to finish tough stuff, but otherwise it is far, far, FAR below what I would even remotely call "good", probably because my standards are too high. Little more than "satisfactory", mostly. But yeah, my definition of "good" is honestly around Zzul, NIH, or ZeroMaster levels, nothing below is good enough for me. It does enable me to enjoy stuff that would make other people "nope" out, but at the same time it most definitely shows that what I'm usually playing is not for my skill level, and that's fine. It also doesn't mean I'm necessarily doing a good job when beating them. No saving and pistol starting only makes things more frustrating than they should be for me, though I do pistol start when it is a viable option or things get way too easy and there's no more challenge left in the map. It bothers me that I hit a wall long ago, but it's nothing new to me. I mean, there's games I have played for years, and almost on a daily basis, and if you'd see me play the last time I touched them you'd think I started a mo th ago or so :p.

Firstly, thank you for your optimism and your posts. Real Doom is not singleplayer only, it's mod support, deathmatches, co-op, it's complex fun. About game design it has elements of horror too. In 1993 Doom was pretty horror game, if you can remember your first visit of hellknight's room. OK, horror isn't so important element, but it was in original games too, as multiplayer, as mod support and mapping, as co-op - where's all of this?!

    PrBoom+/UMAPINFO v 2.5.1.7

Thanos for the info. Definitely not the case of using the SDL from 2.5.1.4. Just checked the archive and there's SDL2 libraries insine. 2.5.1.4 is SDL1. Which is good because if 2.5.1.4 and other SDL1-based ports are of any indication, that would have meant borked mouse support on newer Windows versions. To be honest I would f*cking love to see Hexen support in the future, and a better sound system, but that's understandably well out of the scope of the project for the time being.

Multiplayer is traditionally my favorite part of Doom but with Quake Champions being around I can see why they're not bothering much with it. 2 player splitscreen co-op woulda been nice but oh well.

    The so-called keyboard smasher style.

    What's your playing style?

I don't think I phrased that well; I meant that the important thing is you're having fun. If something is very hard but you're having fun trying, then that's great! If something is so hard that you aren't having fun anymore, then it's hardly gonna help you get better. In that sense, higher skill level allows you to enjoy a wider array of maps I suppose. Generally speaking yes, and "no saves" applies to every level, except maybe very short maps. Pistol start does make a very large difference on some maps though. For example, Scythe 2 MAP29 is relatively easy on continuous; on pistol start it's arguably the hardest map in the WAD.

Studying Doom's source code - where to start?

Pretty much this. Doom's code is a library of "how not to do stuff" and it's a miracle that it worked out. It took me several years to get a good understanding of the core logic. The best approach would be to try something out on isolated features. For example, try to analyze how a monster or projectile moves and what functions get called while performing the movement. Once you start getting an understanding, the rest of the code will be easier to follow. But be aware what code base you choose as a start. I'd recommend something as basic as possible you can set up to compile.

    NoisyDiarrhea [Vanilla Speed-Megawad (32 maps)]

Just checking this out. Ended up blazing through the first six, then dying to trees. Had another go and finished 7-11 continuous. These are neat setups, would be highlights in bigger maps. Visuals for 03, 04, 06 and 09 are nice FDAs ("nvdiacat1" is 1-7, "nvdiacat2" is 7-11): nvdiacatfda1to11.zip

...now QuakeCon is dying, because their flagship title for the year is Doom Eternal? Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't iD historically headlined with their current game, stretching all the way back to Doom 3? Besides which, I'm pretty sure they'll have Quake Champions going on as well, just not as the spotlight show. Claiming Bethesda as a whole doesn't care about multiplayer is... a strange assessment. Fallout 76 might be a failed (?) experiment, but it was an experiment entirely centered around multiplayer. Wolfenstien: Young Blood is likewise a co-op focused game. Quake Champions, silent as it has been, is multiplayer only, and the silence may very well just be the devs going into hunker-down mode. It's a bit to put such faith, sure, but a similar thing happened over at the Age of Empires forums; nobody heard news about AOE 2 DE for about two years since its announcement, but they finally paid off with the info and shots they revealed. But really... how is Doom Eternal not looking to be 'real Doom' ? Because it lacks a side mode that has never been the sole focus of the series? What do you consider "real Doom" ? (Asking in all seriousness, not trying to chide. I'm just confused by the shout that this is somehow a half-assed approach) .
