    So, I started to use GZDB..

    That's the perils of having something open in two different programs. What you can do is to run GZDB from within SLADE. In Edit->Preferences->Advanced, find the "path_db2" variable and set it to the path to Builder.exe; e.g. D:/Doom/Tools/GZDBBF/Builder.exe. Then you can right-click a map header and chose "open map in Doom Builder", edit it from there, and when you save and quit GZDB it'll update the map within SLADE and you won't lose progress when saving from SLADE. Otherwise, just don't open your map in both programs at once. Save and quit in one before opening it in the other.

    SIGIL - New Romero megawad for May 2019

    I briefly entertained the idea of adding a UMAPINFO instead of ZDoom's mapinfo (as mentioned in the other thread, Eternity doesn't yet support it), but as much as I want UMAPINFO to exist, trying to use John's project as a bargaining chip to force feature adoption would have been a really really shitty move on my part. If there ends up being enough map bugs to justify a Sigil 1.1 update, then I'd love to consider it then (along with Doomsday episode defs, while we're at it). If not, it's the wad's at least a nice test case to play around with.

    Then you'll want to change that special exit action to something like SpecialAction_OpenDoor, place the Keycard inside an area protected by a door, and tag the door with Tag 666. Assuming you didn't just place it in there with him, anyway, in which case you can easily just nix both that and CyberdemonSpecial from the MAPINFO if you're no longer really using it.

    okay so, i'm almost done with my wad, i decided to cage the cyberdemon with a keycard, and make it so you have to kill him to get the keycard safely. when i move to my next wad i'll use GZdoomnulder.

    SIGIL - New Romero megawad for May 2019

    Interesting idea, but ultimately not worth lifting a finger. Xaser already explained the situation, but let me reiterate since people have been killing space with pointless banter and """humour""" for the last two pages. SIGIL contains zdoom- and eternity-specific mapinfo and that's it, because other ports that have been considered relevant for testing don't really support E5 properly. SIGIL_COMPAT contains a dehacked lump and should be supported by everything "down" to Crispy. It contains everything except the extra menu choice, since it overwrites E3. This is also the version everyone is expected to record demos on, so introducing poorly tested extra *info hijinks would be ill-advised for such a product. Not that anyone really wants UMAPINFO anyway, not after the chalice was poisoned from the start by toxic bikeshedding. And before anyone gets to akkshully me... no, you can't use Eternity to record on SIGIL E5. You want to run it with the "-vanilla" parameter for proper accepted behaviour, but that will also forcibly rewrite the demo header of anything above E4 as E4. You can go back and hexedit the information, but that's enough to consider the option unpractical (it's how the demo reel for E5 was made though). And recording anything for zdoom is just shedding tears in the rain. It's too late for crazy last minute ideas anyway. So late, in fact, that it was impossible to fix a benign oversight that already made it onto the physical media. Romero decided to keep it in™ the online version as well in order to avoid checksum validation hell when mixing versions in online ports.

    Never have files open in both programs at once to prevent this exact problem. Save and close out your map before opening SLADE; do your changes in SLADE and save them before re-opening your map to edit. Changes you do in one will not be reflected in the other unless you reload, and if you don't, you set yourself up for a disaster like that. It's not that SLADE "lost" your changes, it's that it didn't know of them - so when you re-saved in it, it saved the versions it had, wrecking the since-updated ones. Unless you do both your map editing in SLADE as well, anyway (it is possible to), but otherwise, yeah. Don't have a file open in two places at once while you're working on it, that's kind of common sense.

    MAP03 - Gythop’s Pyramids As usual the level was great. As usual my writeup is not. I played this level over the course of a week, so the beginning of this map kind of blended into my memories of the other maps. Anyway, I liked the rocket launcher room and the cyberdemon fight (I didn't kill the cybers though). I only found 1 secret, but it was the BFG secret, so good on me for that. Finally on page 2 of this thread.

    I have fixed the Jaguar graphic by bringing in some of the improvements of the PC version. Much better with these little touches, don't you think?

    Okay so I have a small problem which I think SLADE caused, it's simple though: Does SLADE erase progress you make on a WAD? I had both Programs opened, saved on GZDB and closed SLADE, it asked me to save changes, I clicked "Yes". But after doing so and closing both programs and opening GZDB, like 20 or 30 minutes of work were erased. I'll have to do it again but I just want to work if Slade caused it?

    That really means a lot to me hearing you say that :) It sounds like we achieved what we were going for 100% then! We wanted our secrets to feel like more than just a cubby hole with a little extra ammo. We wanted them to, in some cases, unlock new routes or new areas entirely, so to hear you say that it was very Doom-Esque is high praise and I appreciate it very much! Haha, that's awesome to hear! I'm glad you found them all and had fun finding them! :D

  24. Hey kids! The fun starts in 25 hours. One of these lucky themes will be used in tomorrow's session! 1. Invulnerability sphere use 2. Raising and lowering floorspace 3. Use of all six keys 4. At least four green armors in the map 5. ALL FLOORS damaging 6. Projectiles only, no hitscan weapons or enemies 7. No linedef USE action. Walk over or gunshot only 8. 420 linedef limit eyes 9. 69 sector limit eyes eyes 10. Intentional archvile rezzing. Happy Easter! I'll decide a designated texturepack as well. Stay tuuuuuuned!
