    Covert Ops

    Mordeth

The Covert Ops site has updated with a progress report:

We are just tidying up some final bits and pieces, and if things go smoothly, we should release Covert Ops shortly after EDGE 1.24 goes out.

We acknowledge that some people were less than impressed by the demo. We don't claim to (nor want to) please everybody. Some of the suggestions we received were reasonable, others impossible, some totally lame and others we simply ignored.

The focus of the update is on the actual levels. Covert Ops will contain 6-7 modified levels from the original Twilight Warriors TC, each having 16 possible enemy configurations. Because the authors are too busy with their regular jobs they won't be able to focus on more levels - the alternative seems to be a much delayed release date. So, they will release Covert Ops in the public domain along with design specs and files... this way people will be able to create their own levels for it.

0 comments? Since that demo has *everyone* lost interest in Covert Ops?? Picky, picky.

Hmmm. I think a lot of people may be caught up in this new Doom game thing. I mean, look at the forums. I think a lot of current projects may get kind of lost in the shuffle, at least for the next little while. Oh well, things will settle down soon once the reality that the new Doom is probably at least two years away sinks in.

Kind of sad they're making it public domain, rather than just allowing user-maps. I hope they still included the Oil rig level though, that was one of my favorites from twilight warrior. That and map10.

    No new levels eh?
The weapon/AI quality had better be lightyears beyond that primitive little .DEH patch they had with TW or I am going to be SERIOUSLY disappointed...

I liked it. What was meant to be so bad about it? Sure, it was short, but it all worked really well. I say well done - I'll be downloading the finished version, even if it doesn't have new levels.

Well I for one like the idea of it being public domain. Sad - how?

I hope it's better than "that" demo. Honestly, one, short, ultra-easy mission, with dodgy-as-hell graphics and an assumption that everyone uses space as their "use" key (I use RMB, for crying out loud)...what a way to bring Covert Ops to the masses.

..just what I immediately thought.. when I work hard on something, I prefer if people use it for what it's for, and not rip it apart for their own needs.. the Covert Ops team can do whatever they want, but IMHO it would be a shame to see bits and pieces of their (hard work) TC in lesser quality wads someday.
That may seem odd coming from me since I'm a huge sprite thief (sort of), but thats what I think anyway..
It might be a good thing however, so all these people complaining about the "dodgy" graphics in CovOps can put their vast talent to work and make it better, eh?

Good thing we're not all as selfish as you, then.

And you spell 'meant' with an 'a'.
