    Devs Play Doom

    Linguica

Game developer Double Fine has released the latest episode in their "Devs Play" series, in which game developers play / talk about noteworthy games. On deck in this outing are Doom hipster JP LeBreton and Doom designer John Romero playing Doom. The two play through the entirety of Knee-Deep in the Dead and talk about the game, its history, and so forth. The video is split up into ten parts, so here's an URL dump: Intro / E4M2 E1M1 E1M2 E1M3 E1M9 E1M4 E1M5 E1M6 E1M7 E1M8

Watching this made me insanely curious how DoomEd would be to use. John seems to remember it being easy to work with, especially compared to those clunky 90's editors. I wonder how it would compare to Doom Builder?

    Great videos!

The guys at Tango TV need to make an interview with John Romero. I mean the interview was really cool but it would be nice if staples from our community could have a more in-depth discussion about Doom, the mapping community and so forth.

I really wish John was more active around here and I really wish he made some new maps.

Good videos. The "Devs Play" also have other episodes than the ones about Doom. I've enjoyed the first episode about Alladin + Lion King. Great games. And of course, there are others (but I'm not familiar with those games, so that I haven't watched them).

I've only watched the first one; I need to find time to watch the rest: they're awesome. I loved JR flipping out at all the barons in E4M2. :D

Who are these two guys and why don't they know that the line opening the door on the E1M3 secret bridge is the in-sector diagonal and that two-sided linedefs don't show up on the automap if the sectors on both sides have the same heights?

That would be really fun to see happen. He's a busy guy and I'm sure doesn't have that much time to devote to it, but it'd be great to see at least one new map from him nevertheless.

Not even that; it's the same sector.
