    Diary of an Imp

    Bloodshedder

MagnuM e-mailed us about the posting of Doug Jones' Doom Journal, which deals with some of his experiences during the filming of the Doom movie. As you may or may not be able to figure out, Mr. Jones plays three different Imps in the movie. Here is a small excerpt:

And now that I'm back in Prague, I have decided that I know what real fear is: It's when you are standing on a movie set having squibs (those little explosive bits that when triggered look like bullet hits) attached all down the front of your Imp suit, and the 2 Czech guys putting them on start talking to each other in their language with concerned looks on their faces as one of them gestures toward your groin area ... they shrug their shoulders and walk away.

"In the year 2145, a group of Marines are transported onto a base on a remote planet where they face terrifying monsters, created by an experiment gone horrifyingly awry."

Is this confirmation from someone who's working on the movie about the real story?

There is hope, though slim enough to fit through bill gates sperm canal (O_o) that this is not the case and the movie is actually set on mars against demons.

    Slim slim hope
    :cries:

I don't like to be over analytical, but monsters created in what sense? Created by genetic manipulation/through a virus, or "created" from a portal to hell? Maybe the whole Hell situation is going to be downplayed or some sort of big twist, atleast for those of whom who have never played the games. At the very least, Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) said on the Daily Show that the movie will carry an R-rating and be as unapologetic as the games. That's promising...right?

The fact that the whole hell thing may be a twist is something i never though about before.
    Encouraging.
This may not be so bad after all, if only it was still on mars...

True, but as Nightmare has said, maybe that's the "official" name for the weapon we all know as the Big Fuckin' Gun 9000. I mean, it would be hard to call it the Big Fuckin' Gun on TV or in a magazine, so naturally you make up some quasi-realistic sounding name, and then have the dumbass jock go, "That's no Bio-Force Gun, that's a BIG FUCKIN' GUN!". We really shouldn't judge a movie off the title of a weapon in it, though, even if it doesn't jive with something we cherish. I mean, that would be akin to calling the Terminator a bad film because they confused a 9mm Beretta with a Colt 45. However, I really don't want to take a stance on this movie either way, it's just too early for me with so little official information to base an opinion on.

I still wonder wth is up with those retarded names though. Also, whoever wrote that page or script doesn't seem to be aware of that "imp" means "small devil" (that's the exact translation from swedish anyway)

Heh, you guys are getting all worked up about some very trivial things - the true name of the BFG, what planet it'll be set on - does this really matter? It might not be true to the story but I think it's pretty clear, a lot has changed from the Doom story. Think about it, a fair bit changed from the original proposed Doom game story to the game you're playing now. I'm going to reserve judgement of the movie until I see it - to be honest, these little things don't mean much to me. If it's fun to watch, that's what's important.

As far as the monsters are from hell, I have no complains. About the BFG names, I don't mind, but if they start changing a lot of "minor" things, then it will most probably turn into shit. Still I firmly believe that even if the monsters are mutated humans because of a virus or some crap, it'll be better than the Super Mario Brothers' movie, that was a real crap.

    Feb 23, 1994

"I was simply minding my own business in hell torturing souls of the damned, when he came. He was dressed in green combat fatigues, and was soaked in the blood of my fallen comrades and friends. He was mad, the burning hatred in his eyes as he wielded his earthy weapon that was tearing through a fellow cacodemon I knew. He had no remorse as he began laughing hysterically with each round that pierced my brothers.

I rushed to the aid of my fallen friend who was pierced by a round from his weapon. It was then that this human, this souless demon from the terrestrial world lunged at me. He grabbed me with his emmense powerful arms and threw me to the ground. I was too frightened to fight back for I was afraid that any defense or actions on my part would be taken as aggression by this horrible creature who may react to it with vengance. With a twisted smile he bent down and began licking at my skin, I was mortified but too scared to move. I winced with each lick of his disgusting human tongue as it wet my skin.

Too frightened to scream for help, I noticed that he was removing his combat fatigues and a sudden feeling of terror washed over me. For the first time I began struggling violently to free myself from his powerful grip, but it was futile, his arms were like that of a Hell Knight I knew once. He, he began inching his human reproductive organ closer to me, and I began growling in protest in hopes that someone, anyone was listening. If any of my brothers were even still alive, they barely showed it after the fight they had just endured by this human terror.

It was then and there that this man, this human whom I later learned was named Taylor, proceeded to ...to take advantage of me behind that large rocky outcropping I used to have such fond memories as a young spawn. Now I feel as though I can never return without fear of the painful emotions that will wash back over me. I'm not sure what I'll do now, or how I will carry on. These feelings of guilt inside me, even though I know in my heart this wasn't my fault."

Wait-- so what happened to the movie storyline having fuck all to do with the original game? Was that some sort of scare? Is it still up in the air?

I am starting to think that when they said, "There will be more games\movies in the Doom universe", they were thinking the Imp Encounter 5: Backdoor Access.

Well it might not be low buget. I mean, look at the orcs in lord of the rings, maybe its because the imps are so humaniod, it might be easier NOT to computerize them. just use real people

Yeah the more I hear about the movie, the more my hopes are raised that it may actually be pretty good.

Now I just hope the character names were false and unofficial.
