    id Doesn't Love Trent (Apparently)

    Cyb

Can you feel the headline love? Or lack thereof. Anywho, I heard it through the grapevine that NIN Hotline has some news about Mr. Reznor no longer being involved in that Doom 3 project thing you may have heard about. For those not in the know, Reznor was making many (if not all) of the sounds and music for the game, but the time needed to complete the project has taken too long. On a side note I find it humorous that in order to remedy the current sounds taking too long to make, they are getting rid of the current ones... something to ponder.

Note that the NIN Hotline does not quote their source. Until official word is given from either id or the Reznor camp itself, I would advise everyone to take this news as an unconfirmed rumour.

I, personally, hope that the 'news' turns out to be incorrect.

Ahahaha, it's probably bullshit, look at this quote from the article :

To clarify... Trent's music/sound will not be available for release in the retail game or in any further game demos.

Now, for those that don't pay attention

To clarify... Trent's music/sound will not be available for release in the retail game or in any further game demos.

There never was a first demo to begin with, so that means there can be no further demos.

It depends on whether you call the private demonstrations demo's or not. His stuff was used then (and in the leak).

bbg has a strange point, but it does smell a little odd.

if trent were simply leaving because he needs the time for his new album, there would be no reason to trash all the work he has already done on the game.

either the story is completely incorrect and there will still be reznor audio in doom3, or the reasons for trents departure need to be further clarified.

It could be a licensing issue. id may not want to pay for what they already have and turn around and pay someone else for the new sounds. Or, Reznor may not want to have his stuff being used if he can't finish the project.

I would bet that id will (have?) use or pull someone in-house to do the sounds and music.

If you take this piece of news (longer project), and piece it together with the screenshots (using the same models in different characters) and other rumors (maybe dropping the multiplayer), it sounds to me, that they are behind where they thought they were going to be, and are trimming things down to get a release out.

Probably, Reznor and Carmack looked like good buddies in that doom legacy video.

    Granted. But so?

Sure, id has to have an entirely different model for every fat zombie they place in the game. Yeah.

and other rumors (maybe dropping the multiplayer),

Coming solely as a rumor from the Inquirer, which has shown time after time that they talk straight bullshit and do not know their dick from their ass.

it sounds to me, that they are behind where they thought they were going to be, and are trimming things down to get a release out.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Good one, didn't think about that.

The cheesiness of that line alone was probably enough of a reason.

agreed, that was my least favorite part of the alpha.. that i of course never played :P

then again i wouldn't be surprised if carmack came up with it. but reznor's sounds were the only thing of any real interest to me in that alpha.

Probrably some disagreement if its true. They compained about him takin his sweet ass time cos he has other projects, so he gets up in a huff and takes all his material with him. Something he was wanting to do anyway, Heh.
Whats that I smell fear? What i miss there.
If it is true, let me ask you this:

    Heh.

Actually, it sounds more like Trent left the project on his own free will.
According the NIN news hotline, he left because the "gaming project" was taking too long. While trying to compose for his own projects, Doom 3 has probably gotten in his way and cancelled his plans more than a few times, and there appears to be no end in sight, so he probably just said "Sorry, I have other things to do, maybe next time."
As for people who question id discriminating his work, Trent has been hired to write and compose music and sound effects for many dark themed video game projects, and teamed with id Software a little before production of the first Quake started, and has been with them since. Most of the sounds and a lot of the music from Quake, Quake 2, and Quake 3 were produced by Trent.
Reznor has been involved with many projects, and has produced sound effects and music which not only has been used with permission in movies, television, advertisements, and etc., but also has been hired by various companies specializing in the above to create exclusive sounds and music. If a recording or specific sound effect sounds cheesy or isn't on par with the director's request, it wouldn't lead to instant termination, especially for someone with the experience and reputation of Trent.
It is highly unlikely that id terminated Reznor, he more than likely left the project on his own free will.

    The man is overworked.

When deciding what project he wanted to let go in order not to die from stress. He decided on the gaming project.

Incorrect. Nearly all the music in Quake 2 was performed by Sonic Mayhem, with one track created by Jeremiah Sypult.

Double wrong. Quake3 has no music by Trent either. Instead it's FLA! I love Leeb!

I believe Trent Reznor would have more then likely left the project if anything. His music has been a part of his life ever since he was a child, which means he's been with his music before he produced sounds. His music is number one and if he were to get behind in his music he probably would do everything necessary to recetify that problem. Although, it just sounds like straight bs to me... it's far fetched and doesn't make any sense. Either way I doubt Trent would just leave Doom III, the biggest sequel to one of the most historic games of all time. I also think that ID would not just fire him or find someone else, why would they? It's almost as stupid as the person who made it up.

    Regards

Triple wrong. I like FLA, but I hate Leeb. Mostly for cancelling a FLA show I was going to just because he "felt like he didn't owe the fans anything." Prick.

Sounds odd... but Reznor does have the money to just up and leave if he feels the project is taking up too much of his time.

I seriously doubt ID fired him, esp. after all this time, why dump all the sounds when you're coming up on a hopeful release date?
But also note, it might be tempory... who knows?

The NIN site is down, and I'm not sure where else you could find info regarding this, so we'll have to wait to find out for sure.

And "good riddance"? um... no, if anything it would be a serious let down for 2 reasons.

Not as cool sounds or music,
    and a longer release date...
