    New Vavoom On View

    Julian

A new version of Vavoom, the well-known OpenGL/Direct3D DOOM/Hexen/Heretic source port (which makes a lot of slashes if you ask me), has been released, bringing it up to version 1.12.

There's some new editing features: line-to-line teleporters, translucent lines, support for DeepSea tall patches and scaled textures. But most of the changes are in progs. Two new variable types - 'name' and 'bool' borrowed from UnrealScript and a lots of other changes in order to take advantage of the object-oriented language features.

What are you waiting for? Let me guess... direct links? Here they are: Vavoom 1.12 for MS-DOS and Vavoom 1.12 for Windows.

Vavoom sounds powerfull but I havn't seen any project using Vavoom as of yet. It would be interesting to see what can be done.

Vavoom is fast for me (32 fps all the time, won't get up to 35)

Sloped floors and ceilings, Doom/Doom2 walking over/under other things / 3D floors, 32 bpp colors...

    Sounds good to me!

I just played it in 1024x768x32 using software, D3D, and OpenGL and it worked great in all 3 modes. Very fast!

3D sound and the works. No crashes. Very stable.

I will agree the Vavoom is very stable, but it feels lacking. It's graphics don't match par with jDoom's as far as I can tell, and it isn't as fast either. Those aren't the biggest problems, though. I would like to see a level using it's enhanced features that works, but the level off of the Vavoom site crashes Vavoom evertime I try to run it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This source port is probably one of the best and I recommend it to anyone looking to improve they're DooM experiences.
