    Odamex Saturday Nitro #2

    Ralphis

Last week's Odamex Saturday Nitro was a resounding success, bringing in 30+ players in under two hours time. The event featured players from at least four different continents playing across Windows, OSX, Linux, and even the XBox. The Odamex Nitro team is hoping to capitalize on that success this week with some classic red vs. blue team deathmatch. Nitro #2 will take advantage of Odamex's ability to change wads on-the-fly by running all three editions of the popular Onslaught Deathmatch series. There will likely be 2 or 3 servers in use to give a more concentrated (and less spammy) experience.

    WAD(s): Onslaught, Onsl2, Onsl3_
    Maps: 51 (1-12), (1-18), (1-21)
    Mode: 14-Player TDM (40 Fraglimit)
    Server: [Odamex.Net]
    Date: Saturday, August 27th @ 8pm EDT

There is also a very important message from Odamex developer Dr. Sean regarding lag that can be caused by old Odamex configurations. Make sure to check out the official announcement.

Hey, sweet. The majority of my deathmatch experience involves team play of some sort, so maybe this time I won't get my ass whooped so badly.

I cant find any players at all on the Odamex serverlist...

Odamex Nitro is the first of a new series of events designed to start bringing in a steady Odamex player base. There will be other new ways to play at designated times in the near future. Hopefully these games will cause other players to play regularly.

The problem is sort of two-fold. Players open the Odamex server list and say "there's no players!" but most are unwilling to join a server and even wait for a few minutes. In most cases (during non-twilight hours at least), other players will find and join up in a server within just a few minutes.

I had quite a few fun matches tonight, even though I showed up later than I wanted to.

Over the last couple of weeks Odamex has managed to draw me back into multiplayer Doom again, so if these events keep happening, I plan to keep showing up. I haven't had much trouble finding a few evening games during the week, either, which is all I really have time for anyway. Thanks, all.

I missed most of the action (I'm on Pacific time, and couldn't get on until after 9), but did get to fight two duels. So far, both my Doom deathmatch experiences have just been one-on-one :) Even so, it's quite different from my only other deathmatch experience, playing far too much Quake 2 in college.

If there are any other west coast players out there, how about coming back for a PDT round next Saturday? :)

I rechecked the server list a few times that day, but next time i'll join the server next time and wait.

You could also try asking for a game on the OFTC #odamex channel, if you don't like waiting around in-game. There often seems to be a fair number of people idling in there.
