    Soccer ... In Doom?

    Boingo the Clown sent a little item announcing the release of version 0.6 of the Soccer Doom beta, which "transforms map 01 of DooM II into a soccer field, and lets you and a few friends kick the ball around for a while." Screenshots and a download are available from the Team Deim site.

    Fantastic - great add-on. It's amazing that people still have so much innovative ideas about what to do with the plain DOOM engine.

    Didn´t the Legacy Team have a soccer mod? It was released and never worked on again though so this is a welcome mod anway I guess. Now if only I had someone around here who would play Doom with me. :(

    Ball wont bounce off walls eh?

    How about making the wad for Zdoom and giving the walls linedefs (or some others close by) the ThrustThing attribute?

    Test-O: Accually, Boingo was playing with the Rocket Jump fature in legacy and managed to get the ball to fly up into the air much like a golf ball (it kept landing in the stands though) so a golf game would be the next logical step in the Deim Sports series.

    Wouldn't the player thrust itself off the walls... you could use one of Zdoom's new dehacked features.. the bouncy one.

    Well, having the player thrust itself off the walls might not be all that bad... just create a few new graphics -- an angry mob standing on the sidelines that hurts you and pushes you back into the game!

    The guys in Quake were Shub-Niggurath's children. And Kik, the ball wouldn't make sense to bounce off of the walls anymore if they looked like people :p

    The "dimensional shambler" that turned out to be confirmed as Shub-Niggurath was codenamed Quake.

    IIRC the line goes something like "a dimensional shambler known only as Quake..."

    On the Quake thing - you're out, Excalibur. Back when the game itself was called The Quest For Justice, Quake was the name of the player's character. This is from the Previews section in Commander Keen I, released 1990.

    Well I'll be damned... I was just going by what I remember from the manual. Isn't id calling their new project "Quest" as well? (temporary name) Heard at 3DActionPlanet that it would be revealed at QuakeCon as one of several possibilities.

    I heard that quake was either romero's or carmack's AD&D character's name. I guess either that was a confusion with the original intention of quake being a fantasy style, more rpg like affair, or possibly sits along side that.

    There's a crick-eet mod for Quake where you get to shoot Dicky Bird and bowl a grenade at some grunts with pads.
    I think it's called Quack Quake because of the being out for a duck type nonsense.

    Jon - now you mention it, that rings bells with me, too. Have to look it up.

    Excalibur_Z - Quest was the codename for the project id were kicking around before they decided to do the new Doom game instead. The 3DActionPlanet article is pretty much pure speculation. All we actually know is that id are going to be talking about "NEW GAMES" at Quakecon. Anything beyond that isn't official :).
