  1. I just went grocery shopping today and bought about 25.00 worth of stuff; left the store and walked about 200m before I remembered that I forgot to pay for the stuff. How fucked am I? I was too scared to go back so I went home. Life sucks when you forget things.

I do feel bad about this. It was a branch of a giant chain; not a small mom and pop store. I just forgot when I went through the self service bay. I scanned the items and I forgot to get my card out and pay. And I am telling the truth. I certainly will never do this again. This is a common thing in Australia with the self service bays.

This is why machines will never replace people.

Actually, the obvious solution to supermarket theft is to do away with self-serve and replace the customers with machines. It'd almost be like turning the clock back 100 years, where you'd hand over your shopping list and take a seat while one of the retailer's minions scurried about compiling and bagging your order (the mechanical minion being some sort of semi-autonomous shopping trolley with arms and a built-in barcode scanner), then pay the cashier and take your purchases home.
