  1. Love your icon and banner - can I ask who drew them? :)

  2. Serious question: How much would you charge for a commissioned map with a level of detail like Umbra of Fate?

    1. Mr. Freeze

      Mr. Freeze

      Any idea on how much?

If it helps, what would you consider for a detail pass (adding portals, slopes and other fancy graphics to a map)? Or a level the size of Downtown, say?

  4. One of the problems that have been conflicting with me is whether or not I'm a little bit sexist, I've asked people before but I usually feel like I get biased responses or somewhat dishonest "Your not sexist" responses.

First off, I have no problem with women having rights and jobs traditionally associated with men, I really dont care if a woman wants to become a mechanic or a doctor.

Now that I got that out of the way, I have very old fashion views and in a family I see the man as the one who works and gets the money, and I see the woman as the one who does the cleaning and the cooking around the house and takes care of the children while the man is off at work. My reasoning to my views is because these gender rolls have been like this throughout history and I dont really understand why people consider such views sexist by them self.

So do you think I'm sexist or not?

  7. Some nick changes I instantly like, with other I need time but eventually I warm up to them, and a bunch of them just doesn't work for me.

Sodaholic -> Blastfrog: at first I thought it was a total joke but now it actually sits well with me. I'm honestly surprised.

  8. i usually work 8 hours 5 days a week but I had to work on a project and so I put in double the time and of course i'm as tired as fuck now. but it made me wonder how people are able to do it on a consistent basis. it's the equivalent of 80 hours a week which is half the week (sleeping included).

i don't understand how people like investment bankers pull it off (and more) every week. i got to imagine it's not good for one's health.

anyone here have any experiences with consistent long hours? i have to imagine it's tough especially if someone is a manager in any degree (mid or upper management).

I got lucky with an 8 to 5. But my job wants me to go into sales, where I'd have 45-50 hour weeks and close to zero days off...yeah no thanks.

We know things by their opposites. This is part of the basics of how our brain functions and a key part to how we learn. The easiest and most clear-cut way to define something is to say it's "not ___." Take a look at our knowledge of biology: in the dichotomous tree, splits happen where something either is or isn't; has or has not.

Within comradery we find that we are all similar, while within opposition we find out how different we are. Given that we so often find what we seek in life, this is no surprise; if I look for similarities, that is what I'll find. If I look for differences, I'll surely find no end.

Assimilation and accommodation. Fitting something into your current schema and adjusting your schema to fit a new stimulus. But there could never be accommodation without discrimination; you must first learn that there is a difference before your brain can group two otherwise similar things together, otherwise all cats and dogs would still be "kitties" to us, wouldn't they?

Us and them; most of us view ourselves as good, intelligent people. Therefore, any group we belong to will likely share our views on ourself. After all, why would any intelligent person group themselves in with a bunch of stupid people, or a good person with a bunch of evil people, etc? If nothing else, our view of ourself is reflected in our views of those who belong to our same "group," or more-so the group which we choose to belong to. Therefore, we are good, we are intelligent, we are tolerant. By default, if those are defining words for "us," then "they" must have a different set of words to define "them." Given our tendency to split things two, and only two, ways, that makes them by default our opposite. That makes them by default stupid, intolerant, and evil. Otherwise, they would be "us." This is not to argue against a grey area, of course there is one, but we often pretend to be more intelligent than we really are; humans are simple-minded at their core. Our advanced faculties might be capable of questioning if we are, or whether-or-not the shepherd has our best intentions in mind, but at our core we are animals, with the same materials used to make us. Above we may understand more, but underneath the surface this is but an elaborate facade we have made for ourselves.

Back on whatever subject it was, even just by saying "we are tolerant," a person is making a comparison. To nothing specific, of course, but a comparison nonetheless. If everybody in the world were the same level of tolerant, then nobody would describe themselves as tolerant. Same goes with intelligence and good intentions. It's really easy to view "them" as stupid, intolerant, or having bad intentions; too easy, perhaps.

We are all only given one perspective in life. It is impossible for any of us to put ourselves in another's shoes, as we fail at the outset by having been exposed to different stimuli throughout our life/childhood and having learned to be different over time. No matter how similar another person may be to you, in the end there are always differences. Without understanding of this, it would be impossible for two people to be together for long periods of time as two people can never share the exact same perspective. Maybe I didn't pick up on some body language that you did, maybe you were directly involved while I wasn't, or maybe it was actually me and you that got into an argument, in which case the difference is at the front door. Just as we have to be understanding of our peers, fellow members of whoever "us" may be at the time, (and let's not mistake that when we feel a similarity or a bond with anybody, we view them as one of "us" for at least that millisecond in time) we must be understanding of all people.

Who can really pretend to be above the average person? Parhaps one day you were; "any given Sunday" and all that, (for my non-American brothers and sisters: an American football saying; that even the worst team can upset the best team any given Sunday [when most games tended to be held, and still the biggest "game day"]) but perhaps it was just in the categories tested, and perhaps most of all it was just in the categories you knew were tested. We all play the part of the fool in our own time.

What we learn throughout our life shapes who we are, as does what we choose not to learn. It's easy to say that this other person did something or supports something because they are stupid, but that other person has the same thoughts and feelings that you do. When I look back on mistakes I've made, especially the ones that actually amounted to something more than a minor inconvenience and a bit of frustration, it's not that I wasn't thinking, it's that I made a conscious decision to do whatever it was that wound up being a mistake. Even something as simple as getting into an argument with somebody; it's really not too far unlike the skits Dave Chappelle did "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong." Most people, I beleive, have a filter in their heads of their own actions, though admittedly most of us also don't choose to take full advantage of said filter, especially given that most of the time it's a split-second decision made on a whim.

Follow that along to the things we support and back to the Us and Them: we come to expect certain things out of, for example, political groups (of which this thread mostly isn't about, but the Us and Them situation within politics is rampant and tough to avoid when on this subject). So we learn that group x is terrible and has these horrible notions, though we, on the surface at least, acknowledge that the other group is just as bad. But as bad as group y may be, they're totally not as bad as group x. Even pretending to be an independent, the Us and Them situation is alive and well within our own thoughts; indeed, it's engrained into our learning process. More-so, many independents I talk to are merely disenfranchised with the two-party system we have, yet at the end of the cycle they continue to buy into it with the logic that voting anything but Republicrat or Demican is "throwing your vote away." Think about the fact that over 50% of the people who voted didn't want either of the two criminals. If there were ever a year for a third party, this was it. But we all bought back into the two party system for another go-around. Lol at us. They at least would have been smarter, right? RIGHT?! No. This is of course much the same as people will complain about a business, then continue to support it because "there's nothing else." There was, but we didn't shop there before it went out of business. There likely will be again one day, but when that day comes, we'll look at the prices and shop at the big box store.

We make our own Hell, it would seem.

Once again: Us and Them. And after all, we're only ordinary men.

I don't have any answers, so don't think of this as that, or that I'm ole So-crates and must be put to death or exiled for ridiculous questions/philisophical-rants to make others feel stupid (which is kinda a funny story about human psychology), but it's something I've always found kind of... funny and I've just never been able to figure both why folk recognise one minute, but not the next that we find what we seek in life, as well as how we advance past our own natural tendency to dichotimously disect things into opposing groups. The only answer I could find for myself was to simply consciously look for similarities over differences between groups, enough of which eventually does seep in slowly to the subconscious, but it's a patch over a hole embedded within the fabric of my neural system.

Looking at this now, I guess there was no real point to this rant, or more likely just rambling. Idk, I guess I just see a whole bunch of bullshit being thrown around when most people probably agree with each other anyway, but split hairs and all of a sudden we're dire opposites. I suppose I just feel the want to say something amidst this... circus of activity. We're all dumb, humans are collectively retarded and though one of us may shine today, tomorrow we'll be a moron and yesterday we were a jackass. In a week we might be average, but good luck finding an average when 90% of the population believes they are above it.

Pedro VC opened down the Youtube front page. Harambe memorials, prank videos gone wrong and synthwave playlists were supposed to greet him upon loading. Typical for someone his age, Youtube had become his second home- a place where he felt secure. A safe space.

Without warning, a video appeared innocuously in the upper right-hand corner of the Recommended section- "#ProudToBe: Coming Together to Celebrate Identity". Straight from Youtube's propaganda channel: Youtube Spotlight. The thumbnailed seemed to leer at him through the computer screen, as if it was trying to shove itself in his face and down his throat.

Pedro VC didn't click on the video. Why would he? He knew what it was about- that goddamned "tolerance" and "acceptance" movement. The same movements that had spam-emailed him that one time, intruding upon his email's safe space. The movements that had once been invoked in passing conversation at work.

      They had come for him.

With a sweaty palm, Pedro VC closed Youtube. They had found him here, his last shelter. The rainbow colors had created an afterimage, like a rainbow explosion would. A gay explosion.

With a fury he clicked on his Doomworld bookmark and crackled his knuckles. The forum had to know. He had to warn them.

  14. I am being 100% honest when I say this.

Human laziness and dependence on technology has reached the boiling point for me. People don't even want to bother speaking to each other anymore, or even take the time to write a letter to a loved one. Instead, they turn to the emotionless text message or email, all for the sake of ease.

Humanity has fucked itself with innovation.

This effort to make life easier has only made us lazier. Not just physically lazier, either. Look at how things like caller ID have turned us all into people who are too lazy to talk to certain people. Thank God we aren't required to have those difficult conversations anymore! Now we can just ignore it, and continue to lose the ability to converse with people we rather wouldn't talk to...making us more socially absent with each ignored call. Or even more modern innovations like Snapchat...limiting the user a ten second period to convey an entire thought. It isn't teaching people to think faster. It's teaching them to think smaller.

All of the innovations alone are not a problem. They're all just drops in the bucket. But when you take all of the things in life designed to make our lives easier or more convenient, it becomes a pool that we have drowned ourselves in.

For one year I'd love to see humanity lose their mind without their cell phones, high speed internet connections, automated services...all of it can be tossed in the flames as far as I'm concerned.

I'd love to see people forced to deal with eachother or do for themselves instead of relying on some machine to do it for them.

And all the normies decide it's time to get their thug on and act even more idiotically than usual. I get stressed, I can't sleep, so I get more stressed, I am in a living hell of Chads and mucus. Please can someone build something that can be fired into space and permanently blocks out the sun. Thank you for reading this urgent appeal.

  16. In an attempt to humanize the members of doomworld, I propose a discussion on things that have been weighing on our minds lately. What's been bugging you? Problems at work or with your significant other? Feeling guiltt about something you want to get off your chest? Let's hear it.

Lately I have been hating my job. Not the normal shit that makes people bitch about their job. I have actually been stressing about having to come back. I mean literally every week there are new policies being created by our idiotic supervisor (who LOVES displaying his power over his employees) that are literally just more things to keep us busy for the sake of being busy. He also bitches about random shit when everything is going along smoothly just so he can remind everyone he is in charge. Example, yesterday. I used to wear my old safety vest while working inside posts because I felt it made me stick out more and I liked how it looked. It was a normal mesh safety vest, nothing special. Last week I purchased another safety vest. This one looks great. Black nylon with lime trim, several external pockets so I can keep things like my PERC card, ID Badge, flashlight, mini screwdriver set, and bandages handy. I even got my last name embroidered on the front pocket and "security" embroidered on the back. Looks great. Well yesterday he says, "Yeah, you can't wear that inside anymore.". When I asked him why, he goes, "I want my guards to have a more professional look.". So I asked him what looked unprofessional about it. Then he just says, "I'm worried about warehouse management thinking it looks unprofessional.". So I told him how the warehouse management have complimented it and given me nothing but praise for it. Then he just said, "Well you're not allowed to wear it inside anymore."

Way to just fucking write me off, asshole. Everyone thinks he just felt intimidated because I looked like I outranked him when I wore it.

You don't get to start a thread about why you're voting for one of the most incendiary people in recent history and why you agree with one of the most divisive laws in recent history and then walk away from that like you didn't do it. You don't get to say "I wanted a civil discussion" while spouting shit that a lot of people find offensive and hurtful and then try to sweep that shit under the rug. I'm calling you out not because I am a "SJW" or because I wish to see the US adopt draconian hate speech laws. In fact I'm the opposite. I believe that individual agency and liberty are the single most important fundamental rights. I believe in the right to offend. I believe in the right to be offended. Most of all I believe in the right to have open discussion and not hide in echo chamber safe spaces. That is why I am calling you out. I am a Republican and I am someone who actually believes in the mantra of "facts don't care about your feelings" and "deal with it" and not using the government to dictate to private citizens how they live their lives.

That is why I am tired of the emotional children who claim to be all for these things but then openly support using the government as a cudgel to enforce their own views on morality. I am tired of the people who think they can spew their opinion and then instantly hide behind "I'm just saying" or really any of the myriad of excuses. Doubly so when they know (and you have to know) that it's a hot-button issue that people are deeply divided on. I am tired of people claim to be for debate while wanting no part of it. I am tired of the people who talk about how they hate the way 'racist' and words like that are thrown around without a thought or care then instantly resort to similar remarks when challenged. I am tired of people who claim to be for Donald Trump because of his "tell it like it is" ability, then become rectally devastated when people "tell it like it is" to them. I am tired of people who support mindless paranoia because something made them slightly uncomfortable.

I am tired of the conservative safe space.

If you really hold an opinion on an issue. Defend it. Don't try to play some 50/50 bullcrap where you claim you have nothing against a group of people while supporting something that is clearly harmful to that group of people. Be willing to go up to another person as a human and say to them "yes this is why I support this thing that makes you uncomfortable and miserable and hurts you". (Which the bathroom issue clearly does. It clearly makes transgender people feel unsafe and bothers them and seeing people support it bothers them, please don't try and feign ignorance about this) And if you can't... maybe, just maybe examine why you can't and hopefully learn something from it.

Indiscriminately destroying shit wherever our enemies are supposedly located is why DAESH exists in the first place. Yes, air power is a significant factor in taking out DAESH's strongholds and structures. But beyond that, we need Syria and Iraq to get behind us at a governmental level. The instability of both countries is giving DAESH free roam to recruit. This is also why the strategy of "just leave the region alone" is dangerously naive.

Haven't seen either, but I think I'd like Vampire Hunter D more. My problem is, I've been burning out of television and film but getting more into comics and videogames as storytelling mediums.

  22. So, I've noticed that most of my prediction threads have been Helled, and each one quicker than the previous, usually after someone makes an inappropriate remark that has nothing to do with thread. That's fine, I guess, and if my predictive discussions are unwanted, then okay, I get the hint. But what's the deal? I don't mention anything criminal, inappropriate, risque or trollish in these posts. I base my predictions on years of research (and in fact can find examples of pretty much everything on Google) and state that they are simply thought experiments, rather than absolutes. What typically seems to happen is that any potential for interesting discussion gets derailed by someone calling me insane, accusing me of being drugged up (which is not the case when I express these ideas), or otherwise insulting me. With this latest thread drop, I was told to "stop making threads." I mean, c'mon, are you telling me that a voxel camera isn't worth discussing? Am I hated or something around here? I have turned the other cheek time and time again, and will continue to do so, but I do not understand the backlash.

  23. When I post in the Doomworld Facebook group, I don't expect irrelevant shitposting in the topic. I'm not asking for one to be 100% in line but don't be posting irrelevant memes or Halo material in a Doom group for the sake of getting reactions of others. It looks immature and childish in my eyes.

Some joking/funny relevant material can be OK but don't unload crap onto my topic because a select handful (which got shitcanned from the group) did and thought they could get away with it.

That is what /b/ and other places is for, not the Doomworld FB group.

..Maybe I'm just getting too old (lol 33) for the immaturity I saw the other day.

I go on it, but only to join discussions of "What's the best WADs" and similar stuff. I don't see a lot of MRA stuff though, the last time someone brought up GG everyone was flaming the shit out of him.

  24. I've just gone through my posts on this forum and I feel it necessary to say...

if you knew me from then and were unfortunate enough to come across ANY of my posts... I owe you my absolute sincerest apologies for my astronomical stupidity, and am deeply sorry for any damage to your brain I may have caused from reading them.

On a completely unrelated note... is it possible to delete or change the name of my account on this forum?
