    Christmas Countdown 2023

I have yet to see a Christmas themed Doom mod that uses Dance of the Sugar Plum Lunatic from Memento Mori II which is very ironic:
  2. It's mentioned that Doomguy was honorarily discharged and sent to Mars for refusing to follow orders to fire on civilians and then I've just realized something about why Earth was eventually invaded by Demons later on...I guess Demons really are attracted to all that Evil in the world and they hunger for it due to plenty of juicy blackened souls full of sin to feed on and the reason why Doomguy was able to fight them because he lacked the same Evil that blackened his soul that Demons hunger for which also explains why he's the only one that didn't get possessed either?
  3. I think I'm leaning towards recanting my theory, it's just something I've thought up about and posted it here.
  4. Is there any well known or renown mappers here in the Doom community that also tried their hand on other games like Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, and even Blood?

    I make Quake maps now.

Can't you just be like flexible when you can make maps for either games?
  6. Is there's any Doom related maps that uses Heretic and Hexen monsters alongside Doom monsters as well in the same rooster?
  7. I think there should be a proper Doom and Heretic/Hexen crossover...
  8. I wonder if any prototypes of PSX Doom and Doom 64 still exist and if anyone is lucky enough to find one of them?
  9. I notice that majority of maps created for Doom are mostly tech base levels which in my opinion are boring well maybe compared to City maps or even Hell maps due to the reason that they're not only abstract but also they inspire nothing and there's nothing interesting to look at with those maps no matter how detailed it is. I wonder if anyone here feels the same? Or rather what makes the map more interesting and what are the ingredients to mix it in? Well at least for me, what makes a map interesting is not only based on or resemble real locations, but also if they're also references to Horror/Sci-Fi movies not to mention Carnival/Amusement Park or Haunted Attraction style maps or maybe even a suburban neighborhood with a Autumn/Halloween feel (with Halloween decorations in most of the houses especially if some of them have home haunt attractions) would be far more interesting than a tech base level for at least in my opinion. For example, Bloody Pulp Fiction's "Nuthouse" and "Backlot" levels fit these criteria and I'm surprised no one has made Doom levels like those. Or another example of interesting maps would be surreal or bizarre maps like this or even ones like Beyond Reality or Engima 13 for example.
  10. I remember back in the early days of Doom during the 2000s that Joke Wads used to be very prevalent but now nobody seemingly makes them anymore especially eversince the Terry wad scheme took over that genre but thankfully that has died down recently. Only if @Kaiser continued the "Community is Falling" series since alot has happened since the third installment was made but it's understandable that Nightdrive Studios is his main priority now.
  11. Everytime I try to load the current release and instead I get this message, what's going on?

    Thrash Metal midis?

I wonder if anyone has any good midi packs of thrash metal from the 1980s and 1990s to use for Doom wads? Of course this also extends to Death, Doom, Black Metal as well Here's some examples:

    SSG Addicts Anonymous.

The one good reason to be addicted to the SSG is because of the Evil Dead films since it's literally the Boomstick well especially the sequels. Both the first Evil Dead and the original Doom only had single barrel shotguns so it fits perfectly with that pattern.

  15. I wonder what was the earliest known magazine article or anything that first covered Doom?
  16. Looks like the people behind "In Search of Darkness" are now making a documentary about FPS games Doom obviously included.

How much of a DOOM purist are you?

To be honest, I guess I'm the only one with the biggest grip about GZDoom or any source port with OpenGL settings is the sprite clipping issues.
  18. https://bloody-disgusting.com/video-games/3636234/quake-level-designer-sandy-petersen-reveals-scrapped-ideas-games-bosses/ For those who noticed that episodes 2, 3 & 4 lacked bosses, well turns out they were cut content as I always suspected.
  19. I'm pretty sure that the Kaiju Zombie was just a upscaled version of the normal Zombie since apparently they didn't have enough time to create new models so they first went with existing models to fill in the tight schedule but found that they didn't work so they scrapped them completely thus ending up with we got today.

    A major crossover id game?

What if they made a major crossover game that interconnects Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein into a single setting and you play as the Doomslayer?

    A major crossover id game?

Well more like I'm thinking less multiplayer focus but more like if all the id games was a extended universe like the DCU or Marvel and all the games take place in a single universe or rather multiverse. Like for example the Doomslayer visiting areas from Quake and Quake II fighting it's enemies there and such.

THE MALL WAS ALL A DREAM IT WAS ALL IN MY HEAD A VIVID MEMORY I NEED TO STAY AWAKE
  23. Due to the fact that almost everyone plays Doom with OpenGL or Vulkan settings these days if recent videos posted on Doom has any indication despite overlooking the major problems with them due to sprite clipping and such, does anyone still play Doom with software mode as it was originally 'intended' that is? I heard that John Carmack didn't like Doom in OpenGL and refused to release it or something which I wonder if has anything to do with the Sprite clipping?
  24. Eversince I've read this new article, I thought to myself that maybe there's a way to further preserve all this Doom user generated content history in physical format like in CDs and such? Like imagine if Megawads like Hell Revealed 1&2, Memento Mori, Requiem, Alien Vendetta, Eternal Doom, Scythe 1&2, etc got physical copies and I imagine what their CD covers would look like and especially ZDoom gameplay mods as well? Thing is I think that there needs to be some physical formats of these media stored in a library archive to ensure it's history doesn't get lost especially just in case something happens to the internet itself in the far future?
