  1. I will probably not be working on Eternity for a bit, as we have adopted a lovely dog - which we brought home yesterday.

Here she is on her way home from the rescue centre:

No trouble made so far, though she did accidentally (I'm certain it was an accident due to the circumstances and her reaction) fall into the pond in the back yesterday. There's also been a single "accident" but she isn't fully toilet-trained yet; we just need to teach her where she should go, which will take a bit but we're patient and positive. She's still becoming fully confident with her surroundings and with us, but we're hoping to give her a new start in life.

She's extremely sweet. I slept downstairs last night so that she didn't have to be on her own (she'll sleep upstairs once the number of accidents reduce), and she happily fell asleep by my side. She's already warming to us, which is lovely.

I'd have edited the Doom Builder grid but blank on to the canvases, but I don't know how to achieve that with GIMP (or any similar image editor).

  3. Source port devs, how do you gals and guys go about keeping yourself working through the harder features to implement?

The doc told me I needed a break (from uni) so I'm trying to keep myself happy with Eternity work, but EDF weapons is proving a real bitch to get in, especially if I wanna keep demo compat. Pretty hard putting all this work in but without a real visible result.

Good news, I managed to work through it and came out the other end with a semi-functioning thing: https://github.com/team-eternity/eternity/commit/1069b8592635

  4. For those who hang out in the #noteternityenginerelated, you may have seen me talk about getting back to work on Eternity in the coming days. This won't be happening for a while yet, due to sudden unforeseen circumstances. I don't know how long it'll take for me to get back to work on the engine, as this has never happened to me before.

I appreciate the support. Unfortunately this isn't the kind of issue that can really be mended, it just needs to be dealt with.

  5. So I turned 30 today. Time moves forward, and nothing changes.

It doesn't feel as big of a deal as I thought it would have back when I was in my

early twenties. All I can hope for is that my 30's isn't quite as big of a disaster

as my twenties were. And of course, my daughter will be a teenager as I go into

    my forties (yikes!)..

Anyways, when I get off of work I'll drink myself to a dull lullaby -- either that, or

inebriate myself into writing some half-decent solution for 3DGE's broken split screen

    code. ^_^

  6. Your avatar and custom title match perfectly.

Thanks! In an ideal world it'd be a gif of the running animation loop, but I don't know how to make that a thing. I just grabbed this image off the net and did some editting and filtering to make it look better on a DW's darker theme.

  7. Hi folks! This is honestly a pretty crummy subject to have to talk about in a big public forum post, but it's long overdue that I get this off my chest, so I'll make this quick and get it over with:

I'm a transgender woman and I'm in the process of undergoing HRT. This is a really exciting and important thing for me, and the past year and a half of my life has already been way better for it. It also isn't a decision that was made lightly -- on the contrary, it's been the scariest and most difficult thing I've ever had to do in my life.

Those of you who already know have been tremendously supportive beyond my wildest expectations, and I feel extremely fortunate to have made such amazing friends here. The Doom community is a pretty awesome place. With your help and reassurance, this post was way less stressful to make, so thank you!

To everyone else who's just hearing about this now, I'm not going to be a different person than you've known on the forums since forever. This is who I've always been, something I was internally grappling with even before I registered here on Doomworld a long as heck time ago. So my posting will still be as lousy as you've come to expect, etc, etc.

Given the problems that have been had with some other threads in recent memory, I'm just going to remind everyone that this is a personal blog thread and not a gender politics debate. With that said, I realize that this is a subject that's unfamiliar to a lot of people, so questions are welcome, just please be respectful. Thanks!

I find it (without hyperbole) personally inspiring just how much bravery and courage it takes to come out. It always warms my heart to know that in the world people are able to find their true selves, and are comfortable enough to be open with that. Congratulations and I hope your transition is as smooth as possible.

  8. First step is to basically block my testosterone, so I got these:
Spironolactone 25 MG, 2 plls a day per 3 months
    Diethylstilbestrol 2 MG 1 a day per 3 months

My T levels are 7.7, according to my doc they have to go down to something between 0.x to 1

    1. Altazimuth

Not very familiar with much of the technical terminology here and I certainly won't pretend to be, but I'm glad to hear you're on your way already, and hope everything goes smoothly for you.

  9. So the bastards that run the gym I go to told me today that I can no longer wear my workout shirt to their gym anymore.

    Shirt here:

    Left: Front
    Right: Back
I asked the owner which part of the dress code I was breaking, and he couldn't say which because I wasn't. Then he just said, "I'm the owner and I can revoke your membership for whatever reason I want. You agreed to that when you signed the contract. Someone got offended by your shirt. Don't wear it here again."

Sadly he's right. And I don't want to lose my membership.

So I want to design a shirt that isn't outright offensive, but plants an offensive idea into someone's head.

I was thinking of a shirt that says, "This is not the F-Word" on the back.

Do you guys have any funny ideas for a shirt that I could have made? Winner will have their doomworld name included on the design.

    Eh, this was dumb.

    1. Altazimuth

If you really want to stick it to a business, like a gym, then the best option is to just take your business elsewhere if possible (and after your current membership ends) as long as the alternatives are satisfactory. In this case I don't think it's worth it, because it's a goddamn t-shirt and if you want to try and prove it's not a big deal then you shouldn't try to "stick it to the man". If the t-shirt doesn't matter like you imply it does then just wear whatever you want to without thinking about it.

  10. This is probably a silly place to put this but I'm hoping that DW can spare some positive thoughts?

Yesterday we found out that my eldest son Nicholas has a brain tumour. He goes in for neuro surgery in about 4 hours and my wife and I are doing our best but we are broken beyond words.

Please Nicholas come home to us. We've still got mapping to do together.

Wishing your son, yourself, and the rest of your family all the best. I hope everything goes as well as it can, and that the road to recovery for your son is a swift one.

Generally when posting something it's best to provide context where needed. Need context here includes: Whose stream this happened in; what the content was pertaining to; if you tried talking to them prior to this incident.

  11. Me and many people aren't fond of the current switchhunt DWmegawad play, so this is probably a better place, sorry if I seem blatant.

Is it 1994? I think it's 2009, but why not both?

Nice opener, already introduces mid-tier enemies and chaingunners. Everything is brown and the map itself is pretty harsh too.
    Lots of detail too.

    3/5 Average

MAP01 original - "Sweet" by James Bearden

Bland as hell, I can forgive that, but the unmarked door is dumb. This map is way harder than the tune-up, you're given a rocket launcher, a baron, some cacos and lots of low-tier enemies including shotgunners.

Probably not the best idea to announce this new soon-to-be farce of a thread on the 1st of April, when it could easily be misconstrued as an intentional joke.
