@Rayziik always thought that disconnected lines look bad on automap. -
Here's the first version of MAP06, it has one additional area which was cut later. I'm not very proud of that map, just bringing it up if anyone wants to see what was it initially. This version is buggy, it doesn't work well with cl4. MAP30. The theme for that speedmap session was "Boss map". It was held in July of 2009. old_nem.zip

I've made some bad decisions while trying to improve the map so I broke it. But you can fix it by yourself pretty quickly, select everything, then use Find & Replace Mode and then within selected find the ones with the floor height -392, ceiling height 128 and floor flat GRAY1 and ceiling flat F_SKY1. -

Some more investigation. Here we have 1078 sectors. All those sectors have the same floor and ceiling height and same flats. Basically the same sectors, but for some reason they aren't joined. Joining them removes around 7 thousand unnecessary lines. I've also tried to removes huge chunks on the north, that's just me experimenting. Usually you would want to get rid of static 0 height sectors simply because they don't block rendering visibility and look bad on automap. Joining sectors, removing 8 thousand of decorations, 7 thousand lines raised performance on my pc from 9 fps to 19. It might be even playable at this state, but I did all the work the quick and dirty way. -

Sure low fps adds to a challenge. My PC can handle Doom (2016) at 60 fps on high btw. -

Speed and max are different though. In a speed demo you either go fast or go safe, there's no other option unless you don't really care about your run being actually fast. Max is different, you can retreat and replenish health and ammo if something went wrong (map32, again) and that wouldn't cost you a lot of time. I can totally see AV being doable on auto-pilot for the most part in fact, simply because you have to get all the secrets and kill all the enemies. Streaming doesn't verify the run either. You can pre-record everything and just play it on stream. Works with any game. -

I've watched map32, and it's not as fast as map01. Retreating and losing like 5 seconds to get mega? That's not Ancalagon I know. Just compare map32 in the demo with any of his relatively recent IL demo, like italo doom or dark tartarus. If ZM became tired at the end of his demo, everyone should? Alright, I've done an ironman run of perdition's gate almost an year ago, it took me more than 3 hours and I had no problems with fatigue, if only a little, but you will not see it on demo. And before anyone accuse me in cheating, I did it on stream 2 hours after the announcement. Nah. Also so called verification isn't any better than demo analyze. What do people want usually for clarification, webcams and streaming? Oh yeah, totally the thing every speedrunner wants to do to prove they aren't cheating in their hobby. You know what's funny about verification? Knowing how to determine cheaters in some game gives you info on how to cheat without getting caught. And everyone would be happy with your verified, yet cheated run. -
